"Cool." Xale said out loud.

He now had 18 strength, 12 agility and 11 perception, 'What a difference to my old self.'

Before the system, his strength was pathetic, he was as strong and imposing as a feather, the only reason he beat Ren so easily was because his speed was 2.5x the average human and Ren couldn't see him when using his ability, Ren's concrete crushing strength was rendered useless in the face of blurred movements.

'Don't have to deal with the body problem, although I feel bad for his family, he was probably their main source of income. I wonder if they knew how he obtained it.' Xale shrugged and sighed.

'Right, onward to the general store now that nuisance is dealt with.'

He walked into the general store as he heard the dinging chimes on top of his head to alert the store keep that he was here.

'They still have that thing... seems like the owner's in the back, he'll be out in a sec. That guy trusts no one, apart from my family for some reason.'

Just as he thought, a rotund fella walked up to the counter, his nickname was 'Fatty Lenny' for obvious reasons.

"Ah young Xale, what a surprise. Ren been bothering you?" Lenny asked, "That bastard is driving away customers with his delinquent tendencies." he felt the urge to spit.

"Nope. Seems like he's taking a day off." Xale's blank face clearly displayed how disinterested he was.

"Seems like you don't know Ren, he may be a delinquent but he's a persistent one. I wonder what happened, maybe he moved hunting grounds!" Lenny dreamed.

"Maybe so, maybe no. Wait a few days just to make sure then spread the rumour alright?" Xale was sarcastic, no way in hell this guy was going to stay quiet.

'I hope this fat ball doesn't gossip about it, he's a loud mouth.'

Lenny had a reputation of being incredibly gossipy and glib.

Understanding what Xale was saying Lenny replied, "Yup, yup. Mouth shut..."

'Until you leave.'

"I'm going to take a look around, got a list from mother, you can go back to whatever you were doing back there."

Lenny was already walking away, "Call me if you need sumin'" he yawned.

Xale, finished with shopping, walked with a heavy basket to the counter. Lenny rung up a bill with incredible speed for such a large man.

"Here you go, kid. You going to the academy tomorrow? Be safe." He'd heard horror stories of Xale and his bullies, now the he was going to an ability based academy it was going to get worse.

"Yeah, I've got to. It'll be fine, nothing much can happen that I haven't already experiencing." Xale sighed.

"True... Still, be safe, it's what your old man would want, even if it's hard to obtain." Lenny had a sorrowful expression painted on his face.

He most likely knew his father closely, Xale couldn't be bothered to ask so he had to assume.

"Please, don't worry, I know what my dad wants, but that is impossible." Xale's mood dimmed at the mention of his father.

He waved as he left, it had started raining so he wanted to run home, his speed couldn't be compared to his old speed even when he wasn't using his ability.

With the agility and stamina of a professional runner he got home in no time, panting a bit since it was still quite a distance.

Opening the door he was greeted with his mother hoovering the floor, "Welcome home, did you get what I asked? Did anything happen on the way?" Nova asked.

"No and yes, respectively. It was a nice walk, although I ran home because it was raining when I left Fatty Lenny's store so... not so great? I'm contradicting myself." Xale confused himself.

"I told you to stop calling him Fatty." Nova frowned.

"But he's so... spherical. It wouldn't feel right to not call him that." Xale laughed while walking up to the room.

"Hey! Where do you think you're going? Leaving your mother to clean by herself, tsk. Just because you're going to the academy tomorrow does not mean you get away with no chores." His mother scolded.

Xale rushed back down the stairs hastily, "Yes mother, of course..."

***

It was the evening, the black haired boy Xale was currently sitting on a wall near a river.

'Damn. Mother really knows how to clean, I mean come on, why did we need to clean the attic! we haven't been up there for any good reason for years!' he forcefully skimmed stones across the water.

He always ended up here when he was frustrated, Xale was a man of habit. Whenever he was frustrated he came here, when he was happy he spent time with his family, when he was depressed he avoided his family. Always the same.

White snowflakes started falling from the fluffy white clouds, 'The academy is going to be such a drag...'

'I want to go, I want to show those who left me what I can be...'

'Ugh, so much effort.'

He got up and stretched, 'No point in complaining, let's just get home and get an early night, nothing else to do today.'

***

He woke up at 6am today, feeling refreshed and ready for the academy, 'I'm the bus will be at the station at like 9am, I should do the daily task before then.'

2 hours and 30 minutes later...

The black smoke came and Xale couldn't help but be sad, 'No stamina point, oh well.'

He put the points into perception and agility again.

"Luckily the station is just around the corner from here... I should pack my things and say my goodbyes."

Xale frantically folded clothes, shoes, and other items into his suitcase, they provided a lot of things at the academy so he didn't need too much, just things like clothing and electronic appliances.

After he was finished he heard a knock on the door, he opened and was greeted by his mother, "Oh wow, you actually packed by yourself for once."

"Yup, ready as I'll ever be." Xale replied, ignoring her sarcastic prodding.

"Oh boy, can't believe my son is leaving..." Nova said sadly. Prompting Xale, "Hey, don't. I'll cry if you do so leave it until I'm gone. I'll be alright, you saw how good my ability is, even though I may not be able to win, I can definitely avoid the bullying."

Nova sighed, "Always the rationalist." to which Xale nodded. "I'll get the others, I'm sure Zander will want to say goodbye and your sister will attempt to seem like she doesn't care but cry when you leave." she said the last bit a tad louder.

"I will not!" Quinn yelled from her room.

"Hahaha" Nova and Xale laughed in unison. They even heard a laugh from Zander's room, who opened his door to say goodbye to Xale.

"Be safe brother, I won't forgive you if you come home depressed or something." Zander hugged his older brother.

"Don't you worry Zander, there ain't no way that will happen, haha." Xale lied through his teeth, Zander didn't know he was already going through it.

'Maybe I'll be different when I get back and won't have to act.'

Zander let go and went back into his room, probably going back to bed.

Quinn came out of her room pouting and silently hugged Xale and simply said "Don't die."

"Wow, that's how much you care? Just don't die. I didn't know my sister was so cold." He said while patting her head.

"I-I didn't mean it like that!" She said before realising from his pats that he was teasing, "I told you to stop doing that!!" she rushed back into her room.

Xale turned to his mother who was trying not tear up, "Alright, I really should get going, I'll come around when I can.

"You better." Nova said while not taking her gaze of of Xale was leaving.

Xale closed the door behind him and let out a sigh of relief, 'Thank god they didn't cry.'

Xale put his hands into his pockets and started moving along the street, it was a busy morning, a lot of traffic.

'Everyone's parents are rushing to get their 17 year old children to the station so that they can get a good seat on the bus with their friends.' he chuckled dryly.

'I mean, I would rush, but there's no point in doing that for me. Plus it's just around the corner.'

He takes a turn around the corner, he heads toward a massive building with huge parking spaces.

'The Myrtle Corporation...'

The Myrtle Corporation were the ones handled the academy, they are one of the largest organisations among the many other titans.

'They are known to be a organisation that deals with all matters other than dungeon diving, which is strange when that's where the profit seems to come from. They seem to be completely government funded.'

A few minutes he arrived at the parking area of the building, there were a lot of armed officials here so that those who weren't supposed to be there stayed away.

Xale walked up to an official who seemed to be the one taking names down, "Hello, Sir. I am here for the academy."

The official looked up as Xale called out, he looked him up and down and was confused, 'Why is his body so undeveloped... He is 17 right? Has he not been training?'

The official ran through some basic questions, "Name?"

"Xale Donovan."

'The famous weakling who was rated F? Whose father was the A rank hunter who died?' The official was shocked, because he didn't know why a rank F was going to an academy where he would be bullied constantly.

'Surely he knows that if you're that weak then you don't have to go...'

"I assume you are 17."

"Yes."

"Choice of subject. You have 3 options; Business core, scientific core and combat core. For you I suggest business but the choice is ultimately up to you."

"I'd like to join the combat core."

"Don't be dumb, kid. Everyone knows that you can't stand up for yourself." The official frowned, 'Is this kid stupid?'

Xale narrowed his eyes, "Didn't you say it was ultimately up to me? I wish to join the combat core."

The official rolled his eyes, "Don't say I didn't warn you..." he snorted, writing his name down for the combat core, he pointed toward a group of students that were all talking, there was about 40 people, "Over there, wait for the coach, it'll be there in about 10 minutes."

"Thanks." Xale walked toward his future "colleagues".

He got there and sat down on a bench which was kindly provided.

He pulled out his phone and let his mother know that he was there, 'Well, that official was rather pushy.'

He couldn't help but over hear some of the combat core members talk about him,

"Is that Xale?"

"Oh my god, he chose combat core?!"

"Why'd he even come, he is rank F, he's allowed to not come."

"Isn't it obvious? He's stupid. Plain and simple. I mean come on, who chooses combat core when their ability is to change their eye colour."

"Suppose so, doesn't it look like he hasn't trained either? His body is so unrefined, it's not like it requires much to refine it..."

One even came up to him, it was the student council president from his old academy, 'For fuck sake, what does this bitch want.'
