Squinting ahead, peeking through the long grass, Jamie could make out a small, thin, brown deer with a white underbelly, and yellow scales on it's back stumbling about making bleating sounds continually. It looked in distress, and if Jamie remembered correctly, on Hanet, deer would usually leave the fawn around as they forage for food for up to twelve hours, and the fawn would usually remain quiet and still, tucked away in the grass, as they waited for their mother to return. That it looked skinny, starved, and making loud bleating sounds as it stumbled around is a good indicator that it had been left alone for a long time, and given that Red Tipped Wolves were in the area, the possibility that it's mother was killed was high. As a starving Yellow Scale Deer fawn that was left alone, taming it wasn't an issue. Rather the issue was....
"But it's beyond the 15 kilometer mark."
Lennox looked at Jamie and gave him a friendly smile, sending a thought into his head. "Relax, if anything you can't handle comes, I will intervene. I'm fully capable of defending us both from the worst in this area."
"Ummm...."
"If your concerned, you can try luring it to us. Although...." Lennox looked around, pointedly, at the surrounding bushes "I don't see any clearing around here within the 15 kilometer range."
Jamie looked around at the bushy brown area, then sighed. "Okay."
Jamie sent his beasts commands, telling Eve to remain and Blackwing to follow him and keep quiet. As Jamie took a step forward, Lennox held out his palm, and a black container appeared in his hand. He passed it to Jamie who had just taken his second step, sending a thought to his head. "Take this. Energy Affinity Treats designed to appeal to beasts with the same energy type, and there very nutritious for the lifeform."
Jamie grabbed the container and slowly made his way forward, his nose twitching from the odd, faint smell that wafted in the air. Dismissing the smell, Jamie crept forward, trying to reduce his noise from moving as possible. Blackwing followed behind Jamie, while Eve remained with Lennox. Jamie angled his path so he walked towards a clear patch of dirt that had an unobstructed view of the Yellow Scale Deer. As he reached the clear patch, Lennox voice rang in his mind.
"If we need to forcibly grab the fawn, you fail. You need to be able to coax creatures without resorting to force, as they are often more powerful then us Beast Tamers."
Jamie curbed the desire to roll his eyes at being told the obvious. He sat down slowly in the clear patch of dirt ten feet of the fawns footsteps away, as the fawn looked at him warily, standing stiff and sniffing at the air in Jamie and Eve's direction. Jamie sat down cross legged and placing the black container Lennox had given him onto his lap, and Blackwing lay down next to Jamie, watching the Yellow Scale Deer warily, prepared to intervene if the fowl attacked Jamie.
He slowly opened the black container, and inside there were ten different separated sections containing ten different color small sticks, each with a small covering containing the food, with a see through lid containing on top of each compartment, containing the sticks smells and energy within. Jamie's hand reached to the compartment containing the sticks that were red with blue specks on it.
After opening the compartment containing the Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick, the smell of powdery musk drifted into the air, along with a a tinge of red light speckled with light blue filling the air. Quickly grabbing a stick, Jamie shut the container, as the baby fowl made bleat and took a couple of steps forward, before it stopped, hesitating, then taking a step back.
Jamie projected to the fawn an image of it eating the Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick, closing it's eyes in contentment, the fowl stood still, sniffing the air, before taking a couple of steps forward. It then stopped, sniffing the air, and lifted it's front left leg, hesitating on weather to take a couple of steps forward or not.
Jamie sighed, then broke off a small piece of the Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick, looking at it with dread, then putting it in his mouth, slowly, visibly, and chewing constantly, keeping his face blank as the bitter substance sat on his tongue. Eventually, he swallowed, and the fawn took three more steps forward, leaving it just four of it's steps in front of Jamie.
Jamie leaned forward slowly, gradually, holding the Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick out, as the deer sniffed the air. Jamie sent a mental image of the fawn happily eating the stick once again, as waving the Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick slowly in the fawns direction. The fawn stood stood in it's position, stretching it's neck out, sniffing the air. Eventually, after a minute had passed, it leaped forward, snatching at the Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick, and rapidly taking another step back. The Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick flew out of it's mouth after it jerked it's head back, landing towards the ground on the left. The fawn glanced at Jamie warily, and seeing him not move, walked towards the stick and start eating it.
Jamie watched the fawn eat, careful not to make any sudden movements. When the fawn finished it's meal, it looked towards Jamie, wagging it's tail. Jamie slowly reached into the container, opening the small compartment containing the grey sticks. Once he opened it, the floral scent of jasmine filled the air, and a small wisp of grey light escaped the compartment before Jamie quickly closed it.
As the scent of jasmine filled the air the fawn took a couple of steps forward, standing one step from Jamie. Jamie held the Air Energy Affinity Food Stick in his hand, palm up, in his left hand, with his left hand hanging in the air, just off his left knee. The Yellow Scale Deer fawn sniffed the air, then walked forwards and grabbed it, chewing on the stick and taking half a step backwards. Jamie smiled, happy with the progress he was making with the Yellow Scale Seer fawn.
Once the fawn was done, it went up to Jamie, licking his hand. As Jamie grabbed another stick, smiling, a low pitched voice rang in his mind. "I wonder what it would taste like?"
Jamie almost dropped the Air Energy Affinity Food Stick. He recovered quickly, looking at the fawn and heaving a sigh of relief to see that his reaction didn't scare it off. He fed the stick to the fawn, as he sent a mental growl to Eve. "Don't even think about it Eve."
A chuckle rung in Jamie's head, and after it died down Eve responded. "What? I wasn't actually going to do it. I'm just curious. The Red Tipped Wolves eat them."
"And that's why I got you to remain there. The fawn will be scared off when it see's you."
"Because I might eat it? Blackwing is practically drooling."
Jamie looked at Blackwing, to see his mouth hanging open while it stared at the fawn, some saliva dropping to the ground. Jamie hastily sent a mental message to Blackwing. "It's not food Blackwing."
A low crackling, juvenile voice rang in Jamie's mind. "It looks tasty."
"I'll feed you later. Don't touch it."
Blackwing let out a low growl, sending to Jamie it's agreement. The fawn looked up on hearing the growl, looking around, alarmed. Jamie sighed, and sent to it calming images of the surroundings with no wolves around. Eventually, the fowl licked Jamie's hand, then grabbed the stick in his hand.
Twenty minutes later, the fawn hopped onto Jamie after eating it's fill, bleating and rubbing it's head against Jamie's body. Jamie rubbed it softly, closing the container and putting it on the ground, cradling it's body in his arms. Eventually, ten minutes later, it fell asleep.
As Jamie looked at it, a slight smile on his as he gently stroked it, a rasping voice sounded slightly behind him, almost making him jump. "Well done. You did an excellent of job of drawing him in slowly with treats, keeping it calm the whole time, and slowly gaining his trust. However, it's best not to try get too attached to him, as he will be going to someone else unless a female is found."
Jamie slowly got up, being careful not to disturb the fawn in his arms, to look at Lennox looking at the fawn in his arms, a slight smile on his face. Jamie nodded. "I know."
"I noticed you grabbed the Air Energy Affinity Food Stick and Solar Energy Affinity Food Stick. Did you already know what Energy Affinities it had?"
"I did. I memorized the information we got from the Situation Room."
Lennox smiled. "Excellent. In case you don't know what the Energy Affinity a creature has, you can try those sticks out one by one. Their scent is designed to appeal to a creature of a certain Energy Affinity, and they leak out the corresponding energy."
"Thank you. But I don't have any of these food sticks."
Lennox smiled broadly. "Not a problem. I'm giving you that container." As Eve walked forwards to sniff the container on the ground, Lennox's eyes flickered to Eve briefly as she walked forwards, sniffing at the container. "Those ones are better then the small container Ivan gave you that are sitting in your pocket. I'm sure these can be more useful."
