Chapter 11 - Can't Leave You Behind!

After a few hours of rest, it's finally time for us to leave this place.

With a heavy heart, we rode our carriages and headed back towards the main camp while leaving Riku all alone in that place. Trying to buy us some more time to be able to warn the main camp and prepare for the sudden demon attacks.

Of course, we try to give Riku a few of the healing potions in the crates, to boost her survivability but she refuses to take them. Afraid that the demons would be the ones using it instead of her…

.

Along the way, I could see that their faces were gloomy… As if all of them don't want to part away with Riku.

I on the other hand felt a bit guilty about making this division split apart. Maybe we all should stick together or I at least tried to persuade Riku to come with us.

Maybe Riku might change her mind and come along with us, back to the main camp. Because I am the leader and Riku might follow my order after all… but will she even listen as I feel like my authority isn't at that part.

Yet I really felt that I could have done more… I don't see anyone get killed here. Even though we just met for a short amount of time and also I hardly knew these guys.

Still, as a captain of this division, I feel like I couldn't just let my team member die. But what could I do, as my task was only to provide healing and support cause-

Wait! That's my task…

"Zain! Stop the carriages…" I said that pretty loudly.

Hearing that, Zain stopped it immediately and asked me whether something was wrong.

"I want you all to proceed back to the main camp… I will be going back to Riku."

"What?! Are you insane… Riku told us to secure-"

Before Zain could say any other words, I quickly intervened in his speech.

"Listen Zain! I know you understand what I said earlier but I can't just let Riku die there… I will convince her to head back to the main camp. I wouldn't let anyone in this team die!" I said that towards Zain.

"But you're our priority, ensuring your safety. We can't let the demons get you."

"I know that if I get caught, they will extract the information out of me but don't worry… Even if I was captured, I don't think I would tell them anything at all."

I don't know where all of this bravery suddenly comes out from but it might be because I simply don't care about anything regarding myself. Even if I was killed or torture at all, I just don't care as this wasn't the world I belong in.

No one will care if I die anyway… and I doubt the demons could extract anything out of me as well. As I basically know nothing about the God Enous at all.

"But Ren, doing that might get the captain wrath and the other priest as well. So I wouldn't-"

"I am well aware of that but do you really want Riku to die there by the hand of the demon… I don't think you would want that to happen."

"Of course I don't want Riku to get killed, but if something goes wrong… You would get killed as well."

"You don't need to worry about me, Zain, despite me being a priest. I have developed magic that might hold the demons for a while."

"Really?!" Zain said that in surprise.

"Why do you think I was picked among the other priests on the battlefield…" I said that.

To be honest, I don't have anything like that but to let Zain let me go back to where Riku was. I had to make up a lie… I doubt that the squires or anyone else besides Captain Kaze know the reason I was here in the first place.

"I didn't think of that at all… if so. Go! Persuade Riku to head back to the main camp. Don't worry about the others, I will tell them..." Zain said.

With that being said, I then exited the carriage and began to run towards the place where Riku was.

We still weren't that far from the area even if we took the carriages… I just hope that I can make it there in time. I don't want to see Riku's dead body lying on this barren land and I wouldn't allow it to happen.

.

The moment I got there, I was relieved to see that Riku was still standing there and the horde of demons was still wasn't there.

I approached Riku slowly as I was too tired because of all of that running before.

"Riku!" I shouted.

She then turned her head and I could see that she thought of me as a demon or an enemy. As her hand was about to unsheathe the sword already. But as soon as Riku saw me, she looked at me with surprise.

"Ren?! Why are you here… I thought you were with the other right now." Riku said that.

"Isn't it obvious Riku, I am here to help you fight against the horde of demons."

"Are you crazy! You're just a priest… there's no way you could-"

"Fight? I know that… but I still could provide you the support you needed. Heal you and distract the attention of the demons."

"You're stupid you know that… The demons would capture you and use your knowledge of light against us." Riku said that angrily.

This was the first time I saw Riku make this facial expression before… but I am ready for it as who wouldn't be mad if someone goes against their order.

"I might be stupid… maybe I'm stupid. But I just don't want to lose someone I hold dear to my heart die just like that-"

Before I could say anything else, I saw that Riku's face began to blush the moment I said that. I don't know what exactly happened to her…

Did I say something wrong?
