I woke up to a scream from downstairs. My tiny, child-like legs ran downstairs to see what it was and why someone was screaming. There was my sister and mother, being held by some random people I didn't even know. They seemed to be holding knives and looked like they were about to harm my family.
"Mama, what is going on?" I quietly asked her with a trembling voice.
"Everything is fine, dear. Go upstairs and find a place to hide as quick as you can," my mother attempted to spoke, and she tried to catch her breath again. I followed her commands and sprinted upstairs. "Where should I hide?" "What if my family gets hurt?" "What is going to happen?" Questions shot into my head. I couldn't let my mother down, so I opened the closet, climbed up as fast as I could, and closed the closet door. I was exhausted since it was very early in the morning, the crack of dawn. Little did I know that the last time I would ever see my mother and sister again was then. I heard a scream once more, except this one, which was short, and everything noise dimmed straight after that. My eyes were beginning to close, and I only got more sleepy hiding in the closet. So, I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Now thinking back, I'm glad that the mysterious killers didn't find me. But I still miss my mother and sister. Since that day, I realised the outer world could be filled with hatred and more. Everyone killing each other, fighting, and rejecting family members. Why did my mother have to let me find out by myself? Why couldn't she tell me instead? It's too late now, she's gone, and I can no longer ask her. But if I could, I would ask as many questions as possible since I would love to spend a lot more time with her.
