Chapter 4 - New Life

Elkan awoke in darkness. Rather, his consciousness awoke.

"Who am I?" he wondered, but quickly dispelled that thought as he instinctually knew the answer.

He was Elkan, the God of Creation's most perfect creation. someone who inherited all his life experiences and memories. And he knew his purpose, that is to transcend beyond the God of Creation realm and become a higher existence.

After sorting out his thoughts he tried to look around, but he couldn't. He tried to open his eyes but he couldn't. Wait, did he even have eyes? he tried to move, but nothing happened. he tried to take a breath, but there was no moving sensation of air entering the chest.

It was as if all senses had been cut out. He couldn't see. He couldn't hear. He couldn't feel anything. Logically, when one is being deprived of all senses, one should be in a state of complete panic. Yet, He wasn't. Why was this? Because he already knew the answer for why he was in this state.

He was a fetus in the womb. A fetus growing inside someone's womb. And he didn't know when he would be born.

And his consciousness seemed faint. It would seem to fade at one moment and return the next. Elkan found himself to be in this regular state of consciousness, then not. He didn't know how long it was but it was during one of those conscious moments that Elkan realized something. At each conscious moment, there had been some changes. It had been slight at first so he had missed it. However, after several times of this, Elkan began to realize that he was … growing. growing up but in actual fact, growing limbs. From just feeling like he was floating, to feeling like there were things he could move. Not much at first as it felt like simple stumps. Then those stumps became longer and eventually, he could feel like he could now form a small fist.

Based from the memories he inherited, Elkan knew that it would be a long time more before he would be born. From the looks of what had been formed so far, he was just about 3 months old in the womb. There is some basic external shape, some brain functions and a heartbeat. Barely 4 inches long, I'm like a tiny spec inside the womb. There was another 6 more months to go. 6 more months of floating in this endless sea of darkness. And all he could feel was … growth, Things being formed. Floating. Just the thought of it made him groan internally. He was going to be SO bored.

Elkan sighed. This body of his is a normal human being, so he couldn't even cultivate before reaching the appropriate age. As a last attempt, Elkan even tried to call out, his tiny mouth opening yet no sound coming out. Mentally, he called out, "hello? hello? Anybody there? he paused and waited before calling out again, "hellooooooooo??".

Silence.

Zilch. Nothing. he sighed yet again. This sighing thing is getting addictive.

Although he inherited the God of Creation's memories and experiences, it wasn't his in the end. So, naturally his mental fortitude is far from comparable to him. He was newborn soul in the end.

In the end, he began going through the memories the God of Creation left behind for him. Naturally, he can't go through it all at once. Afterall, the God of Creation had lived for simply far too long and going through his memories all at once will only cause Elkan's brain to over heat and explode.

After another month had passed, and the fetus developed more. Elkan was now 4 months old. he decided to 'exercise' his body to take a break from going through all those memories. He had eyelids now, though it still couldn't be opened. Fingernails and the reproductive organs were formed.

He opened and closed his mouth, imitating a yawn. Lips and mouth ok. Check.

He moved his neck a bit, to the left and right. Neck ok. Check.

He moved each finger of both hands. 10 small movements. Fingers, check.

He closed and opened his hands, making a fist and letting go. Joints, check.

He wiggled his toes, counting them slowly. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10. Toes ... it was a struggle at first, but finally .... check.

He moved both of his arms up and down slowly, bending and straightening them. Arms, check.

Another month had passed, Elkan is now five months old. Muscles have developed and he could now exercise them. Soft hair has started to grow on his head, and he wondered briefly whether it would be curly, wavy or plain straight up coarse hair.

Since he could move about now, he decided to do so. Staying in one position all the time was rather boring. It was comfortable, but boring. With more muscles, it needed exercise and proper movements. He didn't want to hurt the woman who was carrying him, but moving was essential.

So Elkan began to do it gradually. He stretched a bit and found the space in the womb to be extremely small. What used to be just a sensation of floating in goo, was now akin to being in a tight space.

Another month passed, and Elkan was now both 6 months old. By now, his eyelids were fully developed and they could open his eyes.

At 7 months, he could finally make out the sounds that he had been hearing constantly and regularly for the past month. It turns out that Mother had been reading to him every day. Simple books, as if teaching one to read or speak. Mother would also put headphones on her stomach and the womb would be filled with classical music.

From inside the womb, it wasn't as if he could really make out the melody or the nuances of the music. It was more like a vibration that went up and down with the music. Elkan imagined that this was how the hearing impaired 'listened' to music.
