Chapter 1 - THE HUMAN LIFE

Value of life What is the value of life? The value of life can be seen in many different perspectives. Common sense seems to dictate that the value of life is based on financial income not morality. Many people assume that there is no sense of morality when they put a price on a life. We live in a world where people come from different cultures, morals, and traditions; it is impossible for us to be the same. Every life is worth the same. No life is worth the same. Some lives are worth less than others. Some lives are worth more than others. Life is valued on a scale based on the carrier paths you have taken. Life is valued based on economical class. The possibilities are endless on the definition of the value of life, so what is life …show more content…

In the article, "What is the Value of a Human Life?" by Kenneth Feinberg, he admits the way the government values life is not humane. As a lawyer Fienberg dealt with cases that made him doubt his knowledge on what life is worth. At one point he faced a case with a women who said, "Mr. Fienberg, my husband was a fireman and died a hero at the World Trade Center. Why are you giving me less money than the banker who represented Enron?, Why are you demeaning the memory of my husband?"(66).Our government bases the value of life in a monetary value based on an economical scale. Life shouldn't have a price based on the money you made your whole life or earned, it should be based on what you brought to this world. In fact life should not have a monetary value at all and this financial help from the government should not define how much your family member is worth. The way they calculate life depends on financial circumstances of the victim. In the article, "How much Do I Need?" by a website called Human Life Value Calculator, it shows that the value of life is not based on who is worth more but it is based on financial income. The website states, "The resulting estimate is an approximate measure of your net financial contribution to your family – your human life value. This human life value calculator should not be viewed as a comprehensive assessment.

The value of something depends on the persons believes. The way you see the value of life may vary, we live in a society where there are people with different cultures, morals, and traditions so the way we see the value of life is different. The value of life is most commonly viewed in a monetary view, especially by the government. The government grant people different amount of money, but why? We are generally all the same and have rights as humans, even though it might seem harsh this is the reality a lawyer family will get more money after their passing then a normal person with the average wage. This money technically speaking is help from the government but can offend many. People should realize this number doesn't define them, money will come and go but the good memory you had with your loved ones will never vanish. Life will end but the action and accomplishments you leave behind is what people are going to value and cherish. People need to do what makes them happy and accomplish what they want if it helps other people then that's another good thing to add on. The people you around you are going to value the good thig you accomplish when it's your time and so will you value the good things they did. Life is not about money, life shouldn't have a monetary value, life doesn't last forever and neither does money, the value of life is about everything you did with the time you had and everything you accomplished not about

Value Of Life Essay

Many people are convinced that those who make the most money in life are worth a lot more then a person who might be living off minimum wage. It is wrong to believe that just because a person makes more money, they are more useful. We are fixed to the idea of "survival of the fittest", but do not really pay attention to the situations. Just because a lawyer makes more money, it should not mean that they are worth more then the janitor who cleans his office. After the nine-eleven incident in two thousand and one, families who suffered received money, but a different price was set for each person.

What Is A Life Worth By Amanda Ripley Analysis

It may seem like economists price an individual's value, but that is simply not the case. The compensation that government allots to the families does not define the worth of the individual. It is merely a method of providing the family with an income. As specified by the article, the first step--the most important step--is to "estimate how much a victim would have earned over his or her lifetime had the planes never crashed." (para. 7).

Placing monetary value on an individual's life is measured not by the way an individual has lived, but rather the individual's income; at least that is how society views life. Every individual values life from a different perspective.
