Chapter 49 - Chapter 49

Trigger warning:mentions of choking, and the dead corpse/body

Lady Melissa was awoken from her nightmare, breathing heavily before touching her neck.

She could still remember Sophia's dead body choking her.

Lady Melissa kept touching her neck, unconvinced that there weren't any marks on her neck, she could've sworn that her neck was bruised, but she had no proof of it.

"Lady Melissa!? Are you okay??? Do you need me to take anything for you? Perhaps a glass of water?"

"Please do so, Sophia."

Lady Melissa was still very much out of breath. The part of her nightmare where Sophia's dead body was choking her just felt so...real and vivid.

Within seconds Sophia had come back into the room with a glass of water in her hand.

"Here, Lady Melissa, please take a sip."

"Thanks, Sophia."

Lady Melissa's voice sounded hoarse, and her throat was raspy.

Lady Melissa quickly took the glass of water before drinking it all in one go.

"Much better."

Lady Melissa said, now her voice less hoarse than before.

"Are you okay Lady Melissa? Do you need me to take anything else for you? Perhaps another glass of water? Or maybe we could cancel the tea party you have with Lady Celine?"

"NO"

Lady Melissa shouted, all of a sudden, surprising Sophia.

"Sorry, I meant no, Sophia. My bad, I didn't mean to shout at you."

"No it-it's fine. I completely get it, Lady Melissa, your not in the best...condition right now."

"Don't cancel the tea party, and that's final."

Sophia had a frown on her face, but she had no choice but to comply with her mistress' wishes.

"I'm sure your curious about why I suddenly acted that way."

Sophia nodded her head in agreement, eager to know what Lady Melissa had dreamt of for her to act that way.

"I...had a little nightmare."

That was it, and Lady Melissa didn't continue talking about the nightmare.

Sophia waited several seconds, thinking that Lady Melissa would continue to talk about her nightmare and tell Sophia what she had dreamt about.

But Sophia was met with nothing, no explanation.

Sophia felt a little disappointed that Lady Melissa didn't want to tell her, but she would let Lady Melissa tell her when she was ready.

"Lady Melissa, do you need me to get you another glass of water?"

"I would be grateful if you do so."

"I'll get a jug as well so I don't have to keep leaving and going to the kitchen."

"Alright, Sophia."

Lady Melissa was left alone in her room, and she was scared of being alone now.

She felt uneasy, almost as if someone was watching her.

'It's probably because of my nightmare, and it's probably nothing. I shouldn't think about it too much.'

Lady Melissa tried to convince herself that she was just being paranoid for no reason, she was living in the Shayla estate, and the security was tight. There was no way anyone could be watching her, right?

At least she hoped no one was watching her.

Unknown to her, a pair of eyes was watching her figure panic.

'Oh right, Sophia did my makeup just now. I should probably look in the mirror and see what I looked like.'

Lady Melissa stood up from her chair, and her legs felt numb, probably because they were in the same place for a few hours with no movement.

Much to the courtesy of Lady Melissa.

'Damn, I look pretty good. Sophia did a great job with the makeup and everything.'

Lady Melissa did look stunning, her appearance was beautiful, and she seemed absolutely flawless.

Almost as if the eye bags under her eyes had all of a sudden magically disappeared.

Well, it had magically disappeared thanks to the amazing concealer Sophia had applied.

Sophia came back into the room in a minute or two, but this time she had a glass of water and a jug of water alongside it.

"Lady Melissa, here's your glass of water."

Sophia handed Lady Melissa the glass of water, which Lady Melissa had gratefully accepted.

"And I'll just put the jug of water in the table if you don't mind?"

Lady Melissa nodded to Sophia before Sophia had placed the jug of water on the table.

"What'cha think, Lady Melissa? Like the makeup?"

Sophia asked, hoping that Lady Melissa DID indeed liked the makeup she had done.

"I like it, actually. Good job on it, Sophia."

"Awww, thanks, Lady Melissa."

Sophia gave a big smile to Lady Melissa."

"There's an hour and a half more before the tea party with Lady Celine, when would you like to depart Lady Melissa?"

"Hmm, actually, let's make a quick stop towards the shop La Vien En Rose, and then after that, we could just immediately go to the Candice's estate."

"Alright, please give me a few minutes Lady Melissa. I'll get the driver ready."

Sophia exited the room, excited for Lady Melissa to finally get out of her comfort zone and be able to socialize with others.

Technically, Lady Melissa did socialize with others, but this time, Sophia was excited for Lady Melissa to socialize more and get more friends.

After all, having connections with nobles would undoubtedly be useful.

'Hmm, is it okay that I come to Lady Celine's tea party with nothing? Isn't it a little...rude? OH!'

Suddenly an idea popped into lady Melissa's head, and she knew exactly what to get for Lady Celine.

Lady Melissa hoped Lady Celine had a thing for desserts, or else she would be screwed.

Well, Lady Celine most likely did like desserts, considering she was only fourteen years old.

What fourteen-year-old didn't like sweets?

'Alright, then I'll get Lady Celine a few desserts from La Vien En Rose later and maybe some sweets as well. Hopefully, she likes them.'

'I'll get a few sweets for Sophia and me as well as a thank you gift for Sophia, maybe?'

'If I'm not wrong, Sophia likes chocolate-flavored sweets and desserts. I'll make sure to order those for her later.'
