At about 6:30 am, Jose got up, went to the kitchen for breakfast, and then went back to bed. Ellaisaire did not attempt to ask Jose about the nightmare. She, however, informed him that she was going to take some time from work so that they might spend some time in the house together.
When Ellaisaire returned home that day, José's feeling at that time was that he must leave to be outside the home for Ellaisaire's peace of mind. Ellaisaire, on the other hand, wished that Jose would stay at home. She was, therefore, surprised when Jose announced that he was leaving to meet a client.
She asked, "Darling, would you like to tell me what you saw in your dream?"
He answered, "What dream? I hardly see dreams."
Ellaisaire said, "Darling, you had a nightmare today in the morning."
He answered, "Well, you are telling me. Please carry on. Where was this dream?"
She sensed his sarcasm but continued, "A dream is an event or a series of events that you see when you are asleep. It's like a vision."
He cut her short "let me tell you something, my dream was a scream; not too tall not too short, not too dark not too light, not too fat. Not too thin, in her hand, she held her scroll; a scroll that spoke of things to come, a son and a mansion with many rooms. But woe unto me my soul is smitten with grief
And my spirit is split asunder from whence comest thou and whence goest thou Cream and dream of my soul. It's not in my eye to see and my hand to touch. If dreams are made of this, wake me up I pray. What do they call you that I would fall in hue and Cry in awe wonder like a fool? Ellaisaire, sweet Ellaisaire, my Elixir, sweet Elixir, my soul be mourns my spirit invokes."
As these words rolled off José's lips, there was a furlong look in his eyes. He was as if lost in the clouds. Ellaisare was bereft of speech.
At that particular moment, someone came knocking at their door.
Jose said, "I will now leave and as I do so, please let me hold your hand."
Ellaisaire stretched out her hand. No sooner had she withdrawn her hand than the caller, who had become impatient, forced in his way into the house. This visitor was Sony, Winter's son. When Sony realized that he had intruded, he apologized and sought to leave immediately. But Jose asked him to stay because he'd needed him for some errand while he was in town.
Having known Jose for some time, Sony had become a confidant. Their friendship derived from a deep sense of comradeship. The kind of love you will find between a father and a son; that one longed for a father's love, as the other longed for a son's love. So, each found what fate had denied them in the other.
Ellaisaire's mental bulb lit. Through Sony, she could get to understand her husband. She thought to herself 'God answers prayer in different ways. Maybe an answer had come. She showed him in and served him a cup of tea. Meanwhile, Jose brought some finished artwork together with a Post Office key.
He said, "Sony, I would like you to deliver these. Please have the recipients sign against the articles. Finally, pass by the Post Office'' he added, "When you come back, we will talk about your 'mileage'. You can use Sparrow Linx taxis to be charged on my account."
With these words, Jose left.
