Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Fingers of Knowledge

The air was tense.

Previously, it was only because I'd actually activated my "Eye of Insight" (the name I shall now call my new ability, after the breakthrough) that I was able to see how Kira had pulled her spirit out of her body.

Despite the ravenous, tiger-like grandeur that her spirit took, a spirit was only a spirit — it carried no definite shape.

An analysis of how Kira's spirit looked like is a lantern genie. Back in the realistic earth, where I came from, there was this movie called "Aladdin". He had this blue genie that took the form of a human from head to stomach, but below that was just a free, waggling, intangibility that could be compared to the drafting smoke.

That was exactly the form Kira's spirit took, save for being colourless. Despite having Eye of Insight, I could still see through her, as though she were only just... transparent.

'Boom!'

Like Kira, the Steel-winged Vulture drew out its ferocious spirit from its glabella. It was as large as, at least, ten metres high, which was a great contrast to Kira's which could be compared to the size of a human foetus.

"Ahh-haha-haha!" laughed the Steel-winged Vulture's spirit as an indescribable aura burst out of its massive spirit wings.

Kira's spirit stared at it, in bewilderment.

Noticing this, the Steel-winged Vulture's spirit laughed a second time.

"Don't waste your time fighting a one-sided battle, the victor is clear. Admit defeat now, and surrender. We might both be in Half-spirit realm, but a savage beast's strength is always superior to that of a mere human cultivator like you!"

Flying backwards, Kira's sprit said, "It really would be stupid of me to fight you indeed. . . but I'd never admit defeat!"

Hearing the first part of Kira's statement, the Vulture began to say, "Yes, yes, I'm more powerful than. . . what did you say?!"

Realising what Kira was about to do, it quickly shot a look at her. But he was already late. Kira's spirit began to dash away, deeper into the Main Hall, then diverted to the Book Collection Vault.

With a jerk of my consciousness, Teacher Kira and I could see ourselves inside the Book Collection Vault.

Due to the fact that the Beast Hall was void of people, Kira's spirit was at a low advantage, making it easier for the Steel-winged Vulture to chase after her.

The spirit was frustrated, looking for somewhere that could conceal its presence. As it flew towards the heavy shelves, its eyes suddenly lit up, before sending a final look at the Steel-winged Vulture's spirit which was presently making for a book roll in hope of catching a glimpse of the former's spirit.

"Will of Spirit, life sustain!"

Those were the final words of Kira's spirit as it dashed inside a certain book in a shelf. A sudden form of time bomb, like the one that occured when the Euphonic Call of the Deities was activated, took place. This bomb-like effect spread throughout the field of fighting Soul Drenching Squirrels and soulless beings, and all around the environment of the Beast Hall, clearing the lives of every single being.

"Ahhhh!" screamed the spirit of the Steel-winged Vulture as it slowly dissipated into thin air, as though it never existed.

* * *

"The revelation you've just witnessed was how I became stuck in this very book, exchanging my life for the survival of many people you see today." Teacher Kira said this with a pale face.

As realisation kicked in, I nodded slowly. "So that's what you mean by your 'will' lingering in the book... you're as good as dead!"

Teacher Kira nodded, disdainfully.

"But you said only those with your bloodline or a stronger one can awaken this book, doesn't that mean that this book has been awaken severally, in the past years?" I asked, remembering what she'd said earlier.

"The truth is, the reason why those beasts needed my bloodline cultivation manuals, back then, was because they knew that I was the last surviving bloodline of the Royal Euphenic Blood. My ancestors were all from the Royal Euphenic Blood, and as such, there's little wonder that we have cultivation manuals that'd help us to unleash the full ability of our bloodline. These manuals are used in channeling our mind and spirit in such a way that we, as cultivators, could possess outstanding might and prowess.

"To address your previous puzzlement, cultivation is the process of gradually refining one's physical strength, mind and spirit through the use of cultivation manuals, martial arts and spirit stones to gather spiritual energy, to attain immortality. . ."

As I listened, I felt a great calm possess my brain, causing my internal spirit to be harnessed with every word that was spoken by Teacher Kira. She began to teach me about the basic knowledge that one should know about cultivating, and before long, I was able to grasp the essence of Animal and Spirit.

Unknowingly to me, my physical buddy was being refined by the cultivation process that was being imparted to me, and my strength had multiplied by a fold. My Eye of Insights sharpened, and. . .

'Geng!'

Spiritual energy began to slip into my body, tempering it, and making it have a smoother effect. Despite the fact that I had now spent two hours listening to this lecture, I did not even know that the lecture had ended, and that my consciousness had now drifted away from the Channel of Ancient Reality.

Opening my eyes, I felt very differently. A sort of feeling caressed me in a way I couldn't tell if I'd ever experienced anything similar to me.

Looking around, I realised that I was back on my seat in the library, with the book of Coalition of Animal and Spirit opened before me. There was a blank page that suddenly appeared on the book, with Teacher Kira's aura. After having spent two hours plus with Teacher Kira, I had already gotten used to her aura.

Making a quick calculation, I realised that despite having spent over two hours in the Channel of Ancient Reality, I'd actually only used up a second in the real world, that is to say... it was as though none of the things I witnessed actually happened.

Still, that couldn't be!

Walking out of the towering shelves to the entrance, I asked Anthony (the librarian) how long I'd been here, and he kept staring at me as though he saw his goddess. His eyes were truly felt with infatuation — really, did he have to fawn over me in such an embarrassing way?

Noticing my embarrassment, he quickly apologised and said, "At most, only a minute or two has passed since you stepped into this room."

Since that was the case, then it couldn't be any clearer. Turning around, I activated my Eye of Insight. Surprisingly, it worked. Walking back to the blank page that exuded Teacher Kira's aura, I shot a careful look at the page with my Eye of Insight; and just like I thought, there were some words written on it. It read:

"Congratulations on your first and second breakthrough into the world of cultivators. The first breakthrough was only just an awakening of your bloodline. Through this awakening, it's no surprise you made another breakthrough into Cultivation Deciphering realm. After one has attained this realm, one could easily take the 1-star Beast Tamer examination in the Beast Tamer Examination Hall.

"Tear off this page and take it home with you. Read this cultivation technique I'm imparting to you with your use of Cultivation Deciphering."

Nodding, I tore off the paper. Then, a single line of words appeared on the paper, this time.

"Treasure: An advantage of the Butterflies Royal Spirit Bloodline is that its possessors can grasp the knowledge of an entire book by touch."

My eyes lit up in confusion mixed with excitement, as the right side of my cheek curled up.

"Interesting," I mumbled. Turning around, my hand touched a book that said, "Savage Beasts". I channeled my spirit force round my mind and 'boom!' — my mind was covered with the knowledge of every thing regarding savage beasts.

"Just what is this?"

It was too amazing to be real. I touched another book that said, "Savage Beasts and the Phantom Dynasty." A second later, the same thing happened. And despite the fact that I took in these knowledge in split-seconds, my mind was not perturbed in the least.

'Incredible!'

Staring at the line that said "Butterflies Royal Spirit Bloodline" in the page I'd ripped off, I remembered, in that instance, when Teacher Kira had spoken to me before my first breakthrough. She'd explained that I'd initially been possessing the Dormant Royal Spirit Bloodline. It was only after I woke it up that the "Dormant" became "Butterflies".

Shaking my head, I knew that that was really not my problem at the moment. Since I still had some time, I could just as well use it to acquire more knowledge with my newfound ability which I would call, "Fingers of Knowledge."

Smiling, I told myself, "Phantom Dynasty, a legend has arrived!"
