Chapter 17 - Focused worker

"It's my concern when you're walking on the halls of my office during work hours. You need to give me a tangible reason, else I'll take it that you aren't concerned about the work that was allocated to you." He said smugly, lighting and biting his lips as he did so.

His eyes alone show the smugness he feels.

" I do care about the work allocated to me, and for your information boss, I was on my way to your office. "

" And why's that? " He raised a brow.

" I do want to give you a little piece of my mind, if you don't mind. " I look around to make sure there are no workers close by.

I would rather not be the top star featuring in their gossiping papers today.

Should it be possible, I want to avoid appearing in any of their starring newspapers?

"Which mind?" He tilts his head.

"Why do you want me in your group so badly that you had to threaten others not to agree to an exchange?

Aren't you tired of tormenting me? Isn't it enough for you?"

Haven't I suffered enough?

Ever since I came to this office, it's been one problem or another with the boss constantly investigating how to make sure I get to resign.

" I'll have enough when you finally resign." He smirked at his words," staying here will make me want to make you leave. I want you to leave this office for good, and I'll stop. I promise I won't search for you, neither will I call you out on your crimes." He smirked like the devil's incarnate he is.

His eyes take me in as if he's somehow searching for a loophole somewhere.

"You want me to leave?" I smile at that before my frown turned to a smirk. "You have to endure for less than two weeks. I'll be through with my allocated task."

"What of the project?"

"I'm not concerned about that. I'm going to leave when am through with what was allocated to me. Until then, you're stuck with me in this same office." Smirk winking at him *is this an expression?* I walk back to my office.

Make sure to bang the door behind me to show him how pissed off I am.

I paced the floors of my office as I tried to think of the reason the boss wants me to leave.

Thinking about that didn't bring out any productive results, as I can't think of the reason for that.

Last I checked, I never knew him before I came to work here, and even at that, there's nothing I can think of that's capable of making him hate me.

I've done absolutely nothing to warrant his anger on me.

The office line rang, perfectly cutting off my thoughts.

I darkly glare at the ringing phone, but made no move to pick it up.

Already aware of the fact the boss is the only one who calls me through it, I walk back to my chair and relaxed on it.

"You can call until thy kingdom come. I'm not picking up." I narrow my eyes to slit at the poor office telephone. "It's not my fault you have a boss who's just like the devil."

The phone rang and rang until I thought he won't cease calling, but eventually, he did.

"Even the devil gets tired of leading people to sin ordinarily."

I pick up one of the files closest to me and started with the work I intended to do tomorrow.

Should he mistakenly enter, I'll know what excuse to make use of, and that's work.

I was just too busy working I never heard the ringing of the phone * a plausible lie right? I don't care at all.*

After all, a good worker shouldn't be distracted by things close to him. He's meant to concentrate on what he's doing to get the work efficiently allocated to him done and dusted.

Dozzy left early to meet with his siblings, who are just returning from their trip.

I would have gone with him to meet my would have been in-laws, but I figured I can catch up with them at home.

I should give the siblings the privacy they deserve since it's been a long they last saw each other.

I packed my things and got ready to leave. Filing the works I did, I separated the ones I didn't do from the others.

"Wow," I smirk to myself. "I'm almost through with this."

It won't take me longer than a week to complete all these tasks and leave the office for the devil's incarnate.

I switched the system off, arranged my office, and carried my bag.

"Till tomorrow office." I close the door behind me and head towards the elevator while making plans as I walked.

"And where do you think you're going to?"

The man I was dreading meeting the most asked when I made to press the elevator button.

"Home?" I turn to face him, already formulating an excuse in my head.

" I called your office line earlier, why didn't you pick up?"

"You called my office line?" I dramatically widen my eyes. "I didn't notice that. I must have been busy with what I was doing." I place my hand under my jaw as I tried to think of more believable lies.

" I can see." He nods, "my work is too hardworking, he wasn't aware of the loud ringing of the telephone."

" Whenever I'm doing something, am always engrossed in that particular work. I don't give attention to my surroundings until I'm through with the work allocated to me."

Truth be told, this only happens to me whenever I'm watching a movie, or reading.

I get too engrossed in it, I lose touch with the real world around me. It feels as if I got transported to whatever world the movie I'm watching, or the novel I'm reading, is taking place.

"I admire your unrelenting focus. I love that," he said with a knowing smirk.
