Kamila's lowered eyes confirmed that she had indeed stolen. But what could she have possibly stolen from Dallen to make him break into their house with four other people? What could've been so precious…other than, of course, the very gift Vero held in his hands.
Crime was common. People got their things stolen all the time. What shocked Vero more was not what his mother had stolen, but the act itself. His mother would never steal for her kids. It made Vero question what an honest person really was.
Were they people who were actually honest or were they simply dishonest people who were better at hiding their dishonesty than others?
Still, he was his mother's son. No matter who it was, he wouldn't let anyone harm any of his three reasons to live.
"You must be mistaken, Dallen," Vero said, putting his hands forward. "There's no way she can steal—"
Dallen slapped away Vero. "Shut the fuck up, you annoying brat!"
