Ulrak still couldn't shake off the horror he felt when he saw Tash betraying one of his own squadmates. Maybe that was another factor for him choosing to fight Hotaro instead, even though physically, the orangutan Augmentbright looked much more horrifying.
Texal had presented Ulrak with a choice after the Captain of Petmakers woke up from his forced slumber. Either fight Hotaro to protect his squadmates or fight another Volant knowing he was leaving them all in danger.
It wouldn't have been very selfless of Ulrak to choose the latter.
The three Golems climbing up the 30-foot Augmentbright's leg, Ulrak kept his distance to mentally command them further, Texal leaving the fight completely to help out the injured skyguards by carrying them closer to the healers of Commander Frado's platoon.
