Chapter 9 - Magic Enhancement, Blazing Fireball

Andrew wasn't that reckless. First, he observed for a while and then tried to approach a small creature.

The latter didn't react at all and continued to wander around in this world of fire magic without any scruples.

After observing for about a quarter, Andrew suddenly moved!

Although he was only a beginner mage, he already had spiritual strength that far exceeded that of an intermediate mage.

He instantly erupted with an extremely strong pulling force. To his surprise, the creature called fire spirit did not resist at all. It was pulled out by Andrew from the fire element world and forcefully brought into Andrew's consciousness.

"It seems that I've succeeded!"

A hint of joy flashed across Andrew's eyes. In the world of the fire spirits just now, he was worried that his rash actions would lead to an attack. But since he could bring the fire spirits to his consciousness easily, he had no worries!

At this moment, the fire spirit finally realized that it had been caught. It struggled desperately to transform into violent flames, wanting to rush out of Andrew's consciousness.

Andrew didn't give it a chance at all. He pushed the fire element magic node of his diamond spiritual structure and directly collided with the fire spirit!

"Come in!"

Andrew forcefully patted the fire spirits. The fire spirits shattered into pieces, then Andrew absorbed it into his magic node. In just three breaths, an extremely pure power was completely absorbed into Andrew's diamond spiritual structure node.

Andrew's mind was also jolted. He could feel that even though the magical power he had stored did not increase much, its essence seemed to have been enhanced. He could feel that he had a further improvement in his understanding of fire magic.

'It's a really good thing.'

Andrew exited the meditative state somewhat excitedly. He then waved his hand and quickly formed a rune of the second-rate fireball spell. A fiery-red ball appeared on his palm. But before it was released, Andrew's expression froze.

"What's wrong? The energy level is no different from before."

Although Andrew could faintly feel that with his hundredfold talent, his magical power had increased, this increase did not seem to have any effect.

'What happened?'

He calmed himself down and sensed the situation in his magic nodes. He discovered that the body of the fire spirit had dissipated and was floating in the nodes in his consciousness. However, he did not know why he could only mobilize original magic power. He had no way of using the absorbed fire spirit to do anything for him.

'What's going on?' Andrew was a little bewildered.

It seemed like...He had done all this for nothing?

...

Andrew leaned against the bookshelf of the public library, with a book called 'The Simplified History of the Magic Runes' in his hand.

He casually flipped through the book. The contents of the book broadened his horizons.

The earliest runes dated back to the observation of some elemental creatures and magical beasts that were born with the ability to use magic.

However, there were too many unuseful parts in these naturally generated runes.

With the development of the mage civilization and through research, people were able to grasp the essence of runes such as the concentration of flames and the persistence of combustion, thus determining the part that brought about magical effects in the runes.

By eliminating the content that was ineffective in the runes and reducing the complexity, mages could use less spiritual energy to cast stronger spells.

'It's so amazing. It's the research of these ancestors that made the magic beasts becoming increasingly unable to contend with us.'

Andrew sighed in admiration and his mind drifted. The book in his hand was just an ordinary book that was not of much help for his cultivation.

He just wanted to find some information about the fire spirits from these popular science books. However, Andrew had been busy for a whole day and still had not found anything helpful.

'There's not a single book that records the fire spirit?'

'That's impossible. The only explanation is that the relevant knowledge is not available for free.'

As he thought about it, he had a headache.

'Since the fire spirit can be absorbed into the node, it can't be useless!'

'How on earth can I make full use of this spirit? Would they only be affected when I activated the rune of fire release?'

Andrew thought about it. Suddenly, his face froze as he realized something.

'The fire spirits that exist in the fire element world will be affected by the rune of fire release in the outside world, and will automatically inject fire-type power to the world.'

'Does this mean that this rune has a special effect on the fire spirits? I can't use their power after the rune took into effect. But if I try to control the fire spirit while drawing the runes, will it work? Will it have an effect?'

'It's possible!'

Andrew patted his thigh excitedly. The more he thought about it, the more he believe his guess.

He was not in the mood to stay in the library anymore. He put the book in his hand back on the bookshelf and dashed out. The other mages who came to read frowned and think with a disdained look.

'It must be another mediocre mage who thinks he has learned something.'

...

Two hours later, Andrew, who was out of breath, arrived at the deserted mountain.

'I'll try with the second-rate fireball spell first,' he thought for a moment and made a decision.

Then, he quickly outlined the runes in his mind.

'First is the concentrated magic, and then the fire release...'

'Yes! The moment is coming!'

When Andrew was condensing the second rune, he suddenly could activate the power of the fire spirits that were shining with a special light in his magic power node. The fire spirits, which didn't react no matter how hard he tried to activate it previously, reacted this time. They were successfully extracted by Andrew and merged into the rune.

"Wait a minute...This is..."

Andrew was a little stunned because what had happened was not what he had imagined.

After activating the fire spirits, the fire magical power that was triggered by fire release became even purer. It could provide some additional power, but that was not the main point.

What made Andrew both surprised and happy was that after he successfully activated the fire spirits, his mind was once again connected to the world of the fire element. However, this time he did not simply witness the situation in that world. Instead, he observed some strange fragments.

Just like what happened when he was cultivating the mysterious meditation technique, some knowledge rushed into his mind.

In the blink of an eye, Andrew outlined an optimized plan for a Level 4 fireball spell.

With the runes of the 'concentrated magic' and the 'fire release', the spell could have been completed by adding the rune called small burst. However, Andrew didn't do that. Instead, he quickly sketched out a new rune in his mind.

"Blazing light!"

When he finished it, he also understood the name of this rune.

He recalled the contents of the book that he had read in the library. He immediately realized that this was a primitive rune. The pattern looked rather complicated and dense.

"Maybe after I decipher this rune, I can optimize it and turn it into a simpler form."

Andrew was still thinking, and he had instinctively drawn the rune of small burst.

The second-rate fireball spell took effect. No, it wouldn't be appropriate to call it in such a way.

Andrew found that a light ball that was emitting light and heat like the sun appeared in his hand.

When he looked at it, he felt like his eyes were being burned.

"Go."

Andrew gently waved his hand, and the fireball flew forward.

The dazzling light scattered, and after half a second the sound of an explosion was heard.

For a moment, the rocks were crushed and the trees collapsed. When the fire dissipated, Andrew noticed that a large pit nearly ten meters deep appeared in front of him. "The power... I'm afraid it's over Level One hundred."

Andrew was shocked by the scene he saw.

There was no doubt that even among intermediate-level spells, this spell was quite powerful.

"According to Topa, I've already reached the standard of a genius in Star Race?"

Andrew looked at the scene before him and suddenly felt that success came too easily. He couldn't feel any joy from his success.
