Chapter 3 - don't let go

The dasher

I jumped through the window as I heard the sound of footsteps getting closer. I just could not get caught again. I held my breath as I plummeted to the bottom and then I reached my hand out to activate my parachute and slowly descended to the ground way out of reach of my assailants. As soon as my feet touched the ground I took off running down the hill toward the road. In my pocket was the flash drive I had just stolen.  From Justin and his goons. My feet were pounding on the ground and I could feel my lungs burning. On top of that, I heard dogs barking and growling from a few yards away. So I forced myself to even faster and hid behind a bush to catch my breath before hitting the road again. " Steve where are you." I panted into my com set " on my way, run into a sag but I sorted it out. Prepare to jump on the count of three." on the count of three, I jumped and landed in the back of the van my partner was seated in.  " Well, you look graceful," he said teasingly. "Yeah, laugh it up pal but remember that you owe me," I said while shoving his arm playfully. His playful expression got replaced with one of utter horror and with that, he drove away.

I got it." I announced proudly waking in Jack's office with a proud look on my face. He looked up from his laptop and smiled at me " well done little sis, you saved all those agents on that list. Now they can return to their families happy. "It's what I do," I replied before plopping down in the armchair next to the door and pulling out my phone to scroll through it "you know, I called you here for a different reason other than to be on your phone okay Kyala?" my brother said to me. I frowned knowing that I would hate what came out of his mouth next and so I mentally prepared myself. "You are to go undercover for a new mission, but it will be different from the previous one. Don't have to rush okay, take it easy," he said while rifling through a stack of papers on his desk. "oh and you will be working in a group." "No way dude I'm not. Doing that so forget it besides you know I work with Steve anybody else is a liability remember what happened last time?" I said, referring to Charlie who was in the hospital with a broken arm. At the mention of my former teammate, he frowned slightly but his expression quickly morphed into one of relief and relaxation. " don't worry kay, it will be a small group that I have hand-picked to go on a top-secret mission where your job will be to protect the princess of the land.

I stood in the conference room alone.  And here I thought that these people took their job seriously but no. It's been an hour since I came here to wait for them. I looked at my wristwatch and sighed deeply when I heard voices. "yo, I think we're late. I hope she's not like hope. You know, that would suck." a voice said and then another replied, " ah, well Pete just give her a chance, okay?"

you're right Jase and who knows, we might even be friends." "You know, I think you're probably right except for the. The fact that you are tardy." I said with my arms across my chest. This made both of them jump in surprise.  "It's you, " Jase said with the surprise still evident in his voice.  "yes me," I replied flatly. Pete cleared his voice and produced a folder that I hadn't seen before he then placed the said folder on a table and sat down. "if you don't mind, let's get started," he said calmly. Jase and I also took our seats on either side of Pete
