First day of class for the last day in high school and here I am, at the rooftop of our building. I am holding a black jigsaw puzzle piece. I looked at it intently. Stupid. If I died last night, I won't be able to finish the puzzle that I'm currently working on. I shook my head and looked at my wristwatch. It's 7;28 am, two minutes before the bell. I stood up and exhaled deeply. I headed towards the door but before I could turn the knob, it already flew open so I stepped back a little, quite shocked. It's the guy from last night. It didn't bother me though, so I try to walk past him but he grabbed my arms making me face him. I just raised my brow at him asking why did he do that.
"What are you doing up here?"
I looked down to his hand that is still holding my arm. He followed what I did and maybe felt a little awkward so he let go of his grip.
"I'm asking you, what are you doing here?"
"None of your business. Tss."
I continued to walk down the stairs to go to my room. Damn, I'm gonna be late.
"Before you think of ending your own life, have you ever thought of the people that you'll be leaving behind?"
"What the hell are you talking about?!" I turned to him with a blank expression, trying to catch his eyes but he equalled my gaze. For the second time just this morning, I looked at my wristwatch to check the time. I took three steps up, heck I'm wasting my time here but I'm already late so nothing's gonna change.
"The people you love and the people who love you", he continued. "Don't you care about them? Are you not concerned if they will suffer because of your death?"
I really am wasting my time here.
"Back off."
Time check, 7:50 am. I breathed deeply and plastered a smile on my face before turning the door knob of our classroom.
"Good morning ma'am," I bowed down a little. " I'm sorry I'm late, I had trouble looking for our room."
She's reading some paper and answered while still not switching her gaze to me.
"Are you a transferee?"
"No, ma'am," and that's the only time she looked at me.
"Oh, Miss Del Luna. I didn't expect you to be late on the very first day of class. It's your last year in high school and you are running for valedictorian. I expect you to be better than you were for the past years."
"Yes ma'am, I'm sorry this won't happen again."
"Now introduce yourself to your classmates. There are new faces here who do not know you."
I faced the class and smiled sweetly.
"Hi everyone, I'm Alina Aoibheanne Del Luna. I hope to get along with you well." I scanned the whole room and spotted Deirdre, my best friend seated at the second to the last row.
Our class adviser nodded and pointed to the seat at the back beside the window and another empty chair next to it.
"You'll be sitting there. I'm already done checking the attendance a while ago and the only ones missing is you and your new seatmate."
"Thank you ma'am."
I hurried to my seat and waved at Deirdre and she also did the same. Good thing she's sitting right in front of me. I wonder who my seatmate will be. I just hope we get along. The door swung open and my eyes widened in disbelief. Tss, this day is really lucky, ain't it? A tall guy with fair skin and beautifully angled nose. Yes, I'm talking about the nosy guy from last night and yes I found his looks attractive but heck, don't tell me he's my seatmate?!
"Good morning ma'am" bowed down a little,"I'm sorry I'm late, I had trouble looking for our room."
Ms. McHeather, our adviser, scanned him and nodded.
"You must be the other transferee. You said the exact same thing that Ms. Del Luna told us earlier and speaking of her, you will be sitting beside her", points in my direction,"but before that, go introduce yourself."
"Hello everyone, I'm Tristan Montgomery, pleased to meet you all. Please be nice to me!" he smiled widely and went to his chair next to me. He looked at me and raised a brow playfully.
"You must be Ms. Del Luna."
Some of our classmates near us heard what he said and glanced at us. I smiled at him widely, almost sarcastically.
"Yes I am, nice to meet you Mr. Montgomery."
He leaned a bit closer to me to whisper something.
"You act differently. Hmm, why is that so?"
"Shut up", I whispered back but with a hint of annoyance.
"As you please," he smirked at me.
Argh, could this day get any worse?
