Morning came as I awoke to shouting.
"Brady, I am already awake, you do not have to jump onto my bed like that!" Finn complained as brady was smacking him with a pillow.
" Aw come on, I've never had roomies before, and Jake is way up there so I couldn't get him," Brady said, trying to reason with Finn.
I suddenly felt grateful for my choosing of the top bunk as I sat up and chuckled at my two new friends. I climbed down the ladder and started to make my way the the dresser, but before I could, I was tackled to the ground. Both Brady and Finn were now on top of me, beating me mercilessly with their pillows.
I activated my mist blanket to obscure their vision and make a getaway.
"Woah, which of you is doing this?" Brady asked in shock.
"It isn't me that's for sure," Finn declared.
In their brief moment of confusion, I was able to escape to my feet. I then made my way to the dresser to start gathering my clothes fir the day.
"Now that I am thinking about it, should we each share our abilities?" Finn asked with a hint of curiosity in his voice.
"I'm game!" Brady shouted with glee.
Brady stood in the center of the room as he began to spin his arms rapidly. The speed at which he was rotating caused a gentle breeze to flow about the room. It only lasted for about three seconds before he had to stop though, as he was now drenched in sweat.
"It takes a lot out of me, but thats it in a nutshell, haha," Brady said lying back down onto his bed.
"I can also summon a miniature cyclone in my hand, but it's practically invisible, not to mention super weak," Brady concluded.
Finn then walked to the center of the room and let out a terrifying scream that threw him back against the wall.
"Thats about all I can do. My proctor said it could have been an E rank ability if I was strong enough to withstand the force of my own attack," Finn said as he too sat down onto his own bed.
I told them about my two attacks and how my 'fight' with the goblin went. I wasn't shocked to find out that we all had similar experiences.
We all spent the next twenty minutes making small talk while getting our uniforms on and brushing our teeth.
We stepped out of our humble little dorm and walked to the portal that lead to the main building. As soon as we entered, we could see students of all years running around, laughing and playing games without a care in the world.
Wasn't everyone in H rank supposed to be depressed about the shame they brought upon themselves and their families?
My new friends and I made our way to the dining hall for a small meal before class. It was not very long before I saw another familiar face.
"Dana!" I shouted from a table as I saw her looking for a place to sit.
She saw me and made her way to our table. When she sat down she looked over my shoulder and waved at someone behind me. I turned to see to pretty girls making their way to our table. They both sat next to Dana as it was three boys on one side and three girls on the other.
"Brady and Finn, meet Dana. She and I were in the same group yesterday," I said as I introduced them.
We all got to know one another over breakfast, which consisted of oatmeal, sausage, and milk.
Dana Introduced her two friends as Valerie Stills and Linda Petersen. Valerie seemed to be the type of girl who had everything handed to her throughout her life. It must have been a big shock when she was then handed an H rank ability. Linda, on the other hand, was quite humble as she said she came from a quaint village from the east near the mountains.
We talked about the previous day and how scary things got, then turned our attention to the syllabus we each had in our rooms when we entered them the night prior.
Valerie spoke up first regarding the subject,"Yeah, look at these choices guys because there are only three. Porter, clean up crew, and dungeon guard."
It was odd that there would only be three options for us to choose from, but I had already chosen my path. In the end, Finn, Valerie and Dana went with porter. Linda had chosen clean up crew, while Brady and I chose dungeon guard.
Soon it was time for us to begin to make our way to the main building on campus. It was a long walk due to our building being on the outskirts. I saw many students flying through the air as we walked, I imagined myself having the freedom to traverse the skies like that.
We finally stood just outside the main building where classes would be held. I had no idea what to expect as I saw a sign that said 'first year students wait outside'. After a few minutes of watching all of the other ranks gather, including Aldin and that SSS girl, somebody stepped out to meet us.
"Hello everyone, are we excited for our first day?" A woman said, looking down at her watch.
"Ranks E through SSS can all go inside and congregate in the auditorium for a brief introduction to the staff. All other ranks meet inside the arena." The woman said in a cheery voice that sent chills down my spine.
We did as we were told and as we walked away all I could think about was how the SSS girl wasn't as desirable to me today as she was yesterday. This meant that I wasn't crazy and that I had been affected by her somehow.
When we entered the arena there was a man standing in front of what looked to be an obstacle course.
"Everybody group up by rank," the man said in a low and raspy tone.
"To be in the lower three ranks is to be weak, and the government is not willing to hand out millions cores to improve your abilities. While you all have weak abilities, I will not accept those with weak bodies. That is why starting today and every day for the next six months, I will devote myself to making your bodies as strong as possible,"The man continued.
"Oh and by the way, you can all call me Instructor Pain," he said with a wicked grin.
