Chapter 61 - Avengers Assemble...Or Not

( Michael Cage alias LightSpeed P.O.V)

The world has a funny way of ruining some things while making others better. Case in point, what neet hasn't dreamt of this? Standing between a crazy trickster god with an army of disposable aliens (Chitauri)  and normal everyday civilians? That's a dream come true to those who admire heros like I do.

The problem however, is that it's conditional. I. Am. Not. Supposed. To do this alone! Where are the legendary avengers? The first frontier to protect humans from harm. Where are those guys? Answer? They're dead. Hank Pym killed them...then I killed him. Swatted him out of the air before he could do anything.

And now because of a genius's surprisingly low EQ (not really)  all that stands between the Earth's continued freedom and complete subjugation is me. Call me LightSpeed.

"Bravo…for the great introspection. I didn't read your mind. It was just that obvious."

I heard a slow clapping from my right as a man dressed in a silver armor that looked like Aquaman's only thinner, came out of a portal. Out followed him Lady Sif and someone who resembled her a lot. Her sister maybe? But since when does Sif have a sister. Granted I had yet to visit Asgard but that seemed…unlikely.

He smiled in a cheerful way that made me frown. I felt like I knew this…man? No he's something else. My powers had given me a passive ability to sense energy and the energy inside him was raw, chaotic but refined. I shut off my awareness when I couldn't feel an end to it.

"Smart of you, Michael. Don't chew more than you can swallow. And the Godspeed costume? Nice touch."

He knows me? Not only that…how does he know what costume I'm wearing?

" What's going on there LightSpeed? We just detected a massive surge of energy at your position."

Fury's voice came through the coms. This was a delicate matter that Fury didn't need to know about.

"Seems like we have a few uninvited guests. Give me a minute to determine whether they're allies or not."

I told him and then muted him.

"Who are you?"

I asked warily, ready like a coiled spring. My muscles tightened in preparation as I gauged his strength. I would die if I tried to fight him, was the conclusion I came to.

He raised up his hand and I followed it to where he was pointing his finger at. The Chitauri had started pouring out. People started screaming, running and panicking as per the usual course.

"I think we have something more urgent to attend to. Just know that I am not your enemy, Michael."

I would be a fool to trust him so readily but I also know that now wasn't the time . I gave him a curt nod while turning my attention to the ugly aliens coming out of the skyline of New York. I could end this in a second. Maybe less. Why hadn't I? Loki had found a way to link the Bifrost' power with the space stone. Effectively, giving him control of where he could open up portals.

If I whooshed in and deactivated the one in New York, he'd grow cautious of my power. Something he knew little of and then all his next moves would be smart. I couldn't beat a smart Loki with the kind of resources he had on hand. He'd somehow convinced Odin to grant him such authority on the grounds of finding out Thor's Killer.

So I'd have to be smart. Catch him off guard. Display a little of my speed to make him interested in enslaving me then bam, spring out everything on him. At least…that had been the plan.

The young woman with Sif raised her hands.

Instantly…leaves started drifting from all directions to our position. Then before my eyes, a green glowing energy washed over them, followed up by her lowering her hand in a quick action. Hundreds of leaves shot off like bullets. Cutting through the air and leaving behind trails of green.

The first wave of Chitauri didn't get to hurt anyone before they fell down like puppets with cut strings.

"Damn."

"Well done Ari."

The Man told her and I noticed that she blushed under the compliment.

Sif's sword came out of it's sheath and she twirled it.

"That one is mine."

The first of the huge Chitauri Leviathans poked it's body out of the Portal and Sif announced.

"For Asgard!"

With that she jumped and aimed her sword at the large worm like alien. At that moment, she resembled Wonder woman. Even her strength… Regular Sif couldn't leap and clear a distance like that.

The Leviathan roared in defiance and Sif met it midair with her own war cry as well. The sword in her hands enlarged and she instantly cut through the Leviathan, slashing it into two and coming out on the other side without a speck of blood.

What the fuck?

The Strange man chuckled.

" I think it's high time you took action. You don't want to be outdone in your own home, do you?"

I still hadn't seen what the man was capable of but judging from his companion's strength, he wasn't someone to fuck with.

"I'm going after Loki. He has two infinity stones and complete control of the Bifrost. That means he can easily open another spatial rift even if close this one."

I informed my new ally. A thoughtful look came onto the man's face.

(Jin's P.O.V)

I considered Michael's words. Truthfully, it would be an easy matter to stop Loki's attack with a wave of my hand. Not only Loki but even Thanos was canon fodder to me now. But I couldn't do that. I couldn't be the protector that these people need. Infact, the only reason I decided to intervene wasn't because I doubted Michael's powers.

It was due to the fear of what would happen if Loki managed to shackle Michael's mind with the Mind stone. This world wouldn't stand a chance.

So he could handle most of this by himself if he only had a little back up. And the help I brought was overkill.

"I'll stop him from making any more portals. The ladies will handle the grunts on the ground and save the civilians. You find Loki and stop him."

Michael nodded and disappeared in a streak of white. Huh, his lightning had changed. Guess his version of broken limiter applies to everything. Through my awareness, i felt the deaths of many Chitauri as people were saved in equal measure.

A huge runic formation appeared on the sky by my will.

"There. That will stop anyone from making anymore portals."

I caught the site of a figure dressed in orange and yellow robes vaulting of a building to land next to me.

"Impressive work on the formation. Even I couldn't create a portal using the Sling Ring."

I bowed my head in acknowledgement.

"Ancient One."

"Realm Lord."

She nodded back.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of someone like you in my world?"

I flicked out a finger and the destruction element surged off and annihilated the Chitauri approaching us on gliders.

"Just… sightseeing. Plus. I have a vested interest in your local Superhero."

"Mmh…I see. So you are his Patron."

She stated and I shrugged.

"If that's what you want to call it."

Tao Mandalas appeared in her hands and she blocked the shots from Chitauri weapons, then she threw the eldritch weapons and they cut through them like pieces of paper. Powerful just like I had expected. Which made me curious.

"I have a question. Why did you not intervene when Pym was killing the Avengers."

"A good question. My vision was clouded. A haze my sight couldn't pierce through. After seeing you, I now understand why."

Ouch. Was she blaming me for their deaths? What a bold woman.

"That's not the truth. You didn't intervene because if it's not mystical…it doesn't concern you."

She looked at me sharply from the side. The truth hurts.

"It's been…okay meeting you. Leave my planet after you're done sight seeing."

She then vaulted off. With her power and the sorcerers under her, all this would be gone before it even happened.

"Bitch."

I teleported above the Stark building. Roots crept around the surrounding buildings spearing through Chitauri, hitting gliders off the air and choking the huge Leviathans. Sif snarled and jumped from one Leviathan to the next dealing the last blow in brutal efficiency.

A streak of white lightning was ducking inside the buildings and saving people. All in all the aliens and in extension Loki were finding it hard to gain a foothold. An energy blast hit me from the back and failed to do anything. It washed off my costume and I turned and raised an eyebrow.

"How did you survive that, you dirty Mongrel!"

Loki shouted at me from the top of the building. I looked at him and found him… lacking. This was a man who could be brilliant if given the chance but his jealousy, hatred and pride clouds his better judgement.

I didn't say anything and just teleported to where LightSpeed was. He stopped and I pointed over to the Stark building.

"He finally showed himself. Go crazy."

I almost felt pity for the beating heading Loki's way.

Michael was a Barry Remnant without his memories but out of all the others, his core values closely matched those of the Scarlet Speedster. So Loki was going down. Just as a precaution, I managed to tag Michael with a small  runic formation to block brainwashing.

After doing that, my attention changed to the missile headed straight for the city.

"Oh you gotta be kidding me! We're winning dammit."

I teleported before the missile and my palm clutched the warhead.

It exploded but I covered the energy with my own and compressed it into a stable ball of fiery energy. I then added my own destruction energy on the ball and compressed it even more to the size of a marble ball.

I felt the energy from the Tesseract sustaining the portal pelter out and teleported below it. I threw the ball through the portal just as it closed.

Suffice it to say, the Chitauri were probably no more.

LightSpeed appeared on the ground with a bound Loki and the ladies and I decided to join them. Loki's eyes went wide when he saw Sif.

"Sif! What are you doing here? I imprisoned you! How did you escape?"

Sif frowned and looked at him with distaste.

"The Loki I know, while prideful would never fall as low as you have."

She punched him and Loki slumped unconscious. I undid the runic formation and instantly the light of the Bifrost hit the ground before us. And out came Odin… looking battle ready. Behind him were the warriors three and lady Sif and behind them an army of Asgardian warriors.

"Show me, my son's killer."

"Things just got a bit complicated."
