(Jin's P.O.V)
It started from the shoulders, an agony so pure all I could do was clench my teeth and grunt. Like 2 pieces of red hot nails the magma down below drilled itself into my skin in thin streams. At least that's what Zoren had earlier on told me would happen. I vaguely felt the smell of burning flesh but was too preoccupied with enduring the pain. The feeling intensified as the burning proceeded to my hands. It felt like the blood inside my body was boiling. I couldn't even thrash around because of the metal table pressing itself on to my body like a fitting glove.
Finally the guttural yell of pain burst out of me. My eyes turned red and veins surged from my forehead. Sweat trickled down my face in rivurets.
"Just hold on for a while longer Jin."
I barely registered Zoren's voice as the nerve endings on my legs also started to flare up. Why was it taking so long!!? The hot scalding magma like solution was actually the raw form of Orichalcum. The lava like state however was an enigma to me. I also didn't understand why Zoren had opted for this form of branding the metal on me. It was simply torturous and I couldn't even withdraw to my mind space.
I had screamed my throat raw by the time I got a brief respite. 10 seconds. Then it started again. This time the solution penetrated deep into my bones lacing them with protective rune formations to prevent my body from being tainted by the natural mystical energy. The pain was immense. Easily greater than before. I marshalled up all my willpower and silently endured. A streak of a tear left my right eye uncontrolled.
It eventually stopped. After what felt like hours upon hours the pain ceased leaving behind a dull throb across my back and sections of my front. My body felt heavy and unwieldy. A soft and soothing sensation assaulted my body and I opened my eyes to see a gentle green light washing over me. Wherever it passed, my damaged skin was healed anew and a rejuvenation effect brought me out of the haze of pain clouding my mind.
"Is it over? Thank God it's…over."
"Not quite."
Came the voice of Zoren crushing my hope into a thousand pieces.
"There's one last step and it's the most crucial one. The first branding was to make your body a conduit for magic. The rune formation was also meant as a method for directing magic when Inscribing runes with a cursive tip. I also changed your nails. Giving them the ability of a cursive tip to inscribe runes without the need for additional tools. The second branding was to protect you from taint. The final step is frankly the hardest to overcome. That goes double for you due to your special circumstances."
"What do you mean?"
"The only thing left is to activate the full crest. In other words magic will enter your body and establish a circulation path meant for you to harness it's energy within the formation. It's crude work and not my best but it will suffice for now. It also has the added effect of making you experience pain magnitudes higher than before."
He finished solemnly.
More pain? Magnitudes higher than the agony I'd just experienced? I don't think I'll be able to endure more.
But…then again, I've made it this far. There's no reason to stop when I'm already near the end, I reasoned. All in all I knew it wasn't going to be easy. Something in Zoren's tone, suggested this is going to be mind breaking. I just hope there's enough semblance of sanity left after it's done.
"Good luck and don't die."
(Thawne's P.O.V)
A hiccup in the plan that Thawne had come up with had happened. And Thawne was left picking up the pieces left in the wake of an almost failed plan. Almost failed because luckily through some last minute changes, Anderson was still indisposed and hopefully dead. But Thawne knew a hard man to kill when he saw one. It wasn't too out there to say he would most definitely be back.
Thawne stapled his fingers together in contemplation. Anderson's power was… unpredictable. His growth even more so. How had he achieved that kind of strength level under his nose? Did he have a clairvoyant like ability that let him determine how to gain powers? Was it some kind of tool? Or did he have access to information from the future maybe?
He shook his head. The swirling whirlwind of questions weren't going to be answered just because he wished it so. So how do you beat an enemy who could overcome seemingly everything you threw at him with overwhelming power? Thawne grinned. His mind replayed the conversation he had had in the morning with probably the second person who wanted to defeat Drakon more than anyone else.
Barry was fuming mad and disappointed in not only Cisco but himself. Cisco because he hadn't told him about creating the freeze gun and himself because he hadn't given it his all. He had had the power, the strength to beat Captain Cold but he had had to let him go. Falling into hubris by thinking that no one could match up to Drakon. The man who had tested Barry's conviction, strength of will and most importantly speed. At the end of the day all his questions and answers met at that juncture. Power. That's what he needed. He needed to be faster. Fast enough to dodge Drakon's blows and leave him biting the dust in his wake.
He brought up a hand and ran it through his hair. How? He had been doing a lot just to increase his speed. New moves that took a lot of energy expenditure to use like vibrating his body to phase through objects, the hurricane funnels move he had come up with, even self defense lessons from Oliver. He was fast enough to just blitz to Starling city and back without wasting precious time. However, none of that felt enough.
"What's bothering you Mr. Allen? Surely the next time Snart shows up you'll be able to take him down with little effort."
Barry looked at the other man and shook his head.
"I...I don't know how. I don't know I am going to beat Drakon when he's faster, stronger and smarter. I'm supposed to be this city's protector. A symbol for stability. But how can I do that when my hands start shaking remembering as he utterly defeated me not once but twice. What...what am I not doing enough?"
Wells had seen an opportunity. After seeing the younger man so devastated by his losses, Wells had chanced upon a plan. He could of course understand what Barry was frustrated at. It was unnatural even in their world. To have so many multiple powers...almost like him. Superman. Thawne adamantly chose to ignore that similarity. He'd fought him in the future and although superman was fast Thawne was simply faster. That however didn't mean that Thawne had won.
There were still things that speed couldn't beat.
"Mr.Allen, I am not going to offer you meaningless words. What I am going to do is ask you a question."
He Begun.
Seeing he had Barry's undivided attention Thawne decided to ask the question that would change the legacy of one of the most iconic superheroes in history.
" How far are you willing to go to ensure that when Drakon comes back and he will, you'll be more than his match. How much do you strive for power?"
His impassioned words cast a look of cold resolve in the younger speedsters eyes.
"Anything that doesn't put innocent lives in danger."
Thawne had smiled.
(Present)
"Despite the heroic nature of his beliefs and his strong convictions I still can't get over how...easy it was to point him down this path...this path of ruin and suffering. The chess pieces have started moving. It's only fitting that I be the director of this epic take on good vs evil...no that's not right. By the time The flash realizes what he's become he'll not be a force for good anymore."Thawne chuckled in glee.
A manic look was plastered on his face. Quicker than before his face returned to it's calm visage. A small smile made itself known on his face.
"Gideon, I need you to pull out all the steps on this one. Keywords include, super soldier serum, Mystical items, Mirakuru, Amazo, firestorm or any other power granting device, method or item. I want it all. Dredge up all the information on those things and present them to me. It's high time we got a little versatile too."
(Jin's P.O.V)
A Foreboding feeling fell upon me as soon as I woke up. The feeling disappeared quickly than I could run leaving me thinking that I had just imagined it. I tried to access my abilities to find out where I was and came up blank. I sighed while standing up from the white linen bed sheets adorning the huge bed. What had happened after the procedure? Where were Yuki and Grand Master Zoren? Oh Yuki is in my mind space, my head supplied that information.
I Couldn't access any of my abilities and my body felt like shit. Despite all that, I managed to make my way into the other room. Most likely the bathroom. One step in and...
"Whoa."
Golden tattoos crisscrossed my body in a beautiful and mesmerizing sight leaving me gaping at just how exotic I looked.
"Ok. This is good and all but how do i turn off the shining fingernails?"
