Chapter 26 The man in chains.
Star labs
(General P.O.V)
With a displacement of air the self proclaimed fastest man alive, Barry Allen, zoomed inside the main console while carrying Cisco Ramon. Cisco stumbled away from Barry's hand whilst complaining.
"I am never doing that again. I feel like my stomach just fused with my spine."
" That's exaggerating it, don't you think?"
"No no it's not, Mr. I can run faster than a commercial aircraft."
Cisco drove his point home with exaggerated hand-waving.
"That's oddly specific."
Caitlin butted in from the side.
"Well... technically speaking, an F-16 is faster than Barry at this point."
"But Mr.Allen's growth is still phenomenal. Given enough time he'll be able to achieve even greater speeds."
Dr Wells drove his wheelchair in. Caitlin was still mad at him but she sort of understood why he had done it. Sort of being the key word. Dr.Wells stared at her apologetically but turned away when Caitlin didn't acknowledge his presence.
"Ok gentlemen. What did you find."
Wells said to Cisco and Barry. Cisco jumped up in excitement.
"Drakon is a genius. First of all, his lab is hidden behind cloaking tech. I couldn't access the panel to open the entry to the lab. The alternative locking mechanism he constructed to rely on his biometrics. Once I tried hacking the whole thing just started warping on to itself and disappeared! Leaving an empty space inside the basement where the lab had once occupied."
Dr.Wells eyebrows rose in interest.
"Are you sure Cisco? I mean Jin was certainly smart but I don't think he would be capable of such technology."
Cisco shook his head at Caitlin's question. Caitlin soon realized what he meant without him saying anything. There was a lot of things that Jin had hidden from her. She couldn't be sure if Jin was a tech genius or not because she didn't know him at all. That brought a fresh stab of pain through her heart. It didn't help matters that despite the betrayal she felt from her friend, she also missed him.
Later on in the day, a package was delivered to one Caitlin Snow at her apartment. Inside, it contained secrets and a strange device strapped with a note that read, 'Use this in your time of need.'
It didn't take a genius like Caitlin long to understand that the package had somehow been sent by Jin. She had been looking for answers and the things inside the box were the first step towards that.
(Jin's P.O.V)
I was standing in front of a full length mirror pulsating with different colors. I had full control over space and time in this place so...
"How come I've never noticed a rainbow mirror placed here before?"
Yuki fleeted about in excitement. Excitement to see her big brother, I was sure. With how she always kept droning on and on about him...I really wanted to meet the other resident in my mind scape.
"This is the nexus between the pocket dimension and the realm. I'm an astral being so I have a keener sense of detection when it comes to these things. Unfortunately, you might be the realm master but I think the pocket dimension was meant to be hidden from you."
"Hidden from me? By who?"
Yuki shrugged.
"That's what big brother said."
I rubbed my head in frustration. More questions no answers. Maybe after meeting up with Yuki's big brother I would finally understand what was going on. I sighed. I still hadn't found the time to rest and process everything that had happened and judging from the new developments, I wouldn't rest any time soon.
"So how do we do this Yuki?""
"Mmh. How do you mean? You just walk up to the gateway and touch it. Then it takes you to big brother."
This airhead. Wait a minute, said like that, it actually makes me seem like the airhead instead. I laughed in good nature.
"Ok why don't you go first then?"
I plodded her. Just because she was cute and lovable didn't mean that I had lost my sense of vigilance. That shit had helped me more times than I can remember.
"Mmph!"
She huffed and flew forward while complaining about distrusting idiots.
When her hand came into contact with the gateway, the surface started forming waves and with a flash of light, Yuki was no longer present. She'd been transported away. I calmed myself down and proceeded to do the same as her.
"Let's see what this is all about, I guess."
A flash of light that blinded me later, I found myself stumbling out into a gray world. The area was scarce of vegetation. A rocky terrain dominated my sights and the rare shrunken tree I saw was gray and dry.
A large moon was above me shedding light upon the ground and a name automatically came to me to describe the pocket dimension...The reverse realm. It was a picturesque nightmare and I frowned in thought. It was still puzzling to me as to how such a thing existed without my knowledge. The other conspicuous thing about the place was the humongous chains that glowed a golden yellow. Chains that went up a hill. And on that hill I saw my miniature companion, Yuki looking towards me and gesturing.
I followed the chains and saw the one they were holding captive. My eyes widened and I instantly blinked next to them on the crest of the hill.
"Aaahhh! Don't do that!"
Yuki screamed in fright but I didn't pay any attention to her. My eyes were glued to the man kneeling on the ground with the chain manacles holding his body through his wrists in place. The man looked just like me except for the purple hair and eyes.
The contour of his pale face, the light stubble dotting his chin and the scowl on his handsome mug. Everything was a copy of me.
"So... you came."
I nodded while still observing him.
"That doesn't look comfortable at all."
He grunted at my response.
"you're an asshole. Anybody ever tell you that?"
I shrugged and tried to use my powers to construct a chair. Nothing happened. That was strange. I had gotten good enough at visualization that I could manifest simple things like clothes and basic furniture. So why did I fail? The second try didn't yield different results. Something was actively blocking me.
"Your control doesn't extend to this place. It's not part of your mind scape."
"Mmh. I'm not exactly thrilled to hear that. If I'm not in control here, then who is? For that matter who's keeping you in lock and chains and why?"
Yuki went to answer but with a look from my duplicate, she shut up.
"It's not your concern. She wasn't even supposed to bring you here."
I perched myself on top of a rock and silently looked at him.
"You're probably wondering why I look like you..."
I shook my head.
"It has crossed my mind a few times but no. I'm wondering if I should let you go free."
" You meanie. You promised!"
I decided to ignore the pipsqueak hitting me with her fists on the chest.
"Enough Yuki. It's fine. I would be cautious too if I was in his shoes."
I narrowed my eyes.
"Who are you really? And don't tell me you're just my Crown of Lightning or something because you seem a little..."
I started.
"Different? Mature? Tainted by life? Not all of us are as pure as Yuki. Certainly not you or me. To answer your question, you'll have to remember first and for that to happen you'll have to be strong enough to overcome the puppet master pulling the strings behind the curtain."
I nodded and got up. Just as I'd thought. Someone had an in to my head and they were probably blocking my memories. It would surely explain things about my mild PTSD. Well, that's someone else on my shit list. I need to get some telepathy asap.
"I can't break the chains."
I finally broke the silence that had befallen us.
"I know."
He had an understanding look on his face that annoyed me a little bit. This guy...he really gets me. The truth was I had actually tried to break the chains in the background without making it obvious. I didn't know who else would be watching after all the revelations I had been made privy to. So best to be careful. The chains were made of something durable. Really durable.
"What's your name?"
I wondered.
"Is Jin already taken?"
He chuckled. I snorted and turned around to leave.
"Well then you can call me...Logan." He added.
I didn't show any reaction on the outside but I turned my face to look at where he was. Dressed in a purple vest and black combat pants that sparked with barely restrained electric currents and barefoot. He knows. He fucking knows. Which means...
"Nice to meet you Logan. See you around."
"Goodbye for now. Oh and don't forget what we've talked about...it's not yet time."
I hummed and jumped off the hill. Before I could blink away, Divine water gathered and enclosed me in a tight ball holding me in the air.
"You're. Not. Going. Anywhere."
I sighed and looked at Yuki. Tears were threatening to fall down her cheeks. I sighed in more frustration.
"Let him go Yuki."
"But...big bro..."
My clone...Logan looked at the small but lovable girl and smiled reassuringly.
"It's okay. He's not refusing to help. I'm the one who is."
She looked at him angry, betrayed, huffed and disappeared in a spray of water. I took control of the water and formed an ice board under me to stand on.
"She's...gonna be okay. Just look out for the pranks."
A curt nod. There really was nothing else to say between us. But I made a promise to myself. I was going to get him out of there. Not because I liked the guy or anything but because I owed him a lot. After all, he was the original Jin.
