"Welcome everyone to the Glowing Star Academy."
"I'm professor Xena and I will give you the introduction today."
Seeing that all the students were paying attention she continued.
"As you all know, classes don't start until next week. But we have the new students arrive one week early so that they can get used to the academy grounds and get assigned to a department."
"Rules are simple. Just attend your classes and no fighting between students. Any dispute should be solved through a duel. Also, keep in mind that the person you challenge to a duel has the right to refuse and that you can't challenge the same person on a short period of time."
Some students in the room began whispering between themselves hearing professor Xena's explanation. But there were some that looked indifferent to it, like this rules were common knowledge.
"The academy divides students based on their elemental affinity. So students with fire affinity won't be living alongside students with water affinity."
"Your classes during the first two years will mostly consist of common subjects that students with all affinities will attend. But don't worry, you will also have a few classes related to your natural element each week."
Many students looked quite angry after knowing that they would not have too many classes related to their innate element, and they didn't do anything to hide their discontent.
"Don't look at me like that. Do you really expect to summon an undead army without even know the basics of mana? I'm sure most of you can't even sense mana around you. How do you expect to conjure any spell?" Professor Xena snickered seeing the angry looks on the students' faces.
Seeing the students bow down and feel ashamed, made professor Xena feel sympathetic and gave them some encouragement. "This would only be during the first two years, from the third year onwards, common classes will almost completely disappear."
Just when the students started feeling a little better, professor Xena mocked them once again. "But you don't have to think about that yet. Most of you will not get to third year in the academy."
Most of the students felt incredulous hearing her words. After all, all of them were considered geniuses blessed by the heavens in the place they come from. They were the pride of their family, village or city. It couldn't be so difficult for them to reach third year, right?
Between the awkward silence, a hand was raised to the air.
"You may speak, mister...?" Seeing a student raising his hand, professor Xena narrowed her eyes. Her thoughts unreadable.
"Immortal. Jack Immortal. I was told before the entrance exam that we would be tested today to know which is our natural element. I still don't know which is my natural element, and I hope this doesn't affect either any student in my same situation nor myself, since we will be divided based on our natural element." Jack talked with a neutral tone.
After hearing his surname, everyone in the room looked at Jack up and down with a weird face. Even professor Xena took a second look at him. "Are you worried that students that already are aware of their natural element will have any advantage related to their living quarters? If it's that, you don't need to worry. We will test all students in a few minutes even if you are all sure of your natural element. We had some cases in the past where a student told us that they had fire affinity, and then it turned out they had water affinity. You could imagine what a disaster that could have been if we hadn't done the test at the time. That's why we test all students personally."
Jack seemed satisfied hearing professor Xena's answer, so he didn't ask anything more.
"Well since all of you are so eager to know which is your natural element, how about we start already?"
After finishing those words, professor Xena snapped her fingers and a small table with a crystal ball on top of it appeared in front of her.
"I will be calling you in the order you finished the entrance exam so please pay attention." The room grew so quiet that even the sound of a needle falling to the ground could be heard.
"Ok, the first person. Axel Rose, you may come forward." Professor Xena instructed the first student.
A handsome, tall young man got up and stepped in front of the crystal ball. He had blonde hair, and a small smile seemed to never leave his lips. His clothes gave away his high status.
The boy named Axel placed his hand on the crystal ball, and the purple color seemed to start flickering inside it. But it was so quick, that if you didn't pay enough attention you would miss it.
"Lightning element. And not a weak one at that. You seem to have at least the same potential as your father. I'm sure the Rose family expect great things from you. You can sit down." Professor Xena didn't bother with too many pleasantries and dismissed him.
Axel bowed, and went back to his seat. His smile never leaving his face.
"Ok, next student. Claire Bellmond." A beautiful young woman stood up and came in front of the crystal ball. She was of petite stature, had almond eyes, long dark brown hair, and exuded an air of innocence difficult to find in any world. If goodness could be impersonated, it would look just like her.
Many male students were thinking of striking up a conversation with her once they saw the innocent young woman. But after hearing her name, all of them felt a cold shudder run through their backs and dismissed the thought. 'We are not getting near her.' That's what all the students were thinking after hearing her full name.
Claire placed her hand on the crystal ball and a clear, gentle blue color appeared on the surface.
"Water element. It's kind of funny seeing this. Your big sister is, if not the best, one of the best students we have in the academy wielding the fire element. Everyone knows how her temper is, and seeing her little sister wielding a water element so gentle is really unexpected." Professor Xena spoke very politely to Claire.
"My big sister is a good person. It is true that she may sometimes be a bit intense. But once you earn her trust, she treats you really well." Claire answered with a beautiful smile before going back to her seat.
"I'm aware of that. She is one of my favorite students. I know deep down she is truly a gentle woman." Professor Xena answered back with a warm smile.
"Gentle my ass. Everyone knows how scary the young lady of the Bellmond family is. Last time I heard that she sent five elite students to the infirmary just because she didn't like how they looked at her. And they had to stay 3 months on the infirmary." Klaus murmured in a low voice next to Jack.
"Five elite students? She must be strong then." Jack didn't care about the gossip, but a sense of admiration grew inside him when he heard she beat five elite students on her own. And not lightly from what he heard.
"Klaus Merwen." Professor Xena called once again.
"Well, it looks like it's my turn." Klaus stood up and did the same thing as the previous students.
A bright light not inferior to the brightest start seemed to envelope the crystal ball.
"Light element. That's to be expected from a Merwen. How is your grandfather, Klaus?" Professor Xena suddenly asked.
"He's doing well I guess." Klaus answered with a cold tone. It looked like he didn't like talking about his family.
"It's ok, you'll be fine here. You may go back." Professor Xena didn't bother spending more time talking with him, and dismissed him.
"Idius Sanders." A tall red-haired student came in front of the crystal ball, and the same color as his hair appeared on it.
"Fire element. Not surprising at all. Keep in mind, your family taboo techniques are not allowed in this academy. If you dare use any of them, I will personally punish you and pay a visit to your family estate." Professor Xena warned the student.
"I'm aware of it professor. My father warned me before attending the academy." Idius seemed to agree, but it was more than obvious that he was not happy with this restriction.
"It's ok then if you already know. The next student, Aria Gale."
A white haired young woman stood before the crystal ball. Jack had never seen anyone like her. Her hair was white like snow, and wherever she walked, nature seemed to follow her.
"Air element. Well, you have some small advantage." Professor Xena said before instructing the next student to come.
"Small advantage? What advantage does she have?" Jack asked Klaus, who was sitting next to him.
"Air element mages can learn how to fly earlier than other element mages. A mage who can fly has advantage on a 1v1 fight against a mage who can't." Klaus calmly explained.
"I see... Is she an elf?" Jack asked out of nowhere.
"Half-elf. Don't tell me you fell for her already. Don't even try. I think she is engaged to someone of high status." Klaus advised Jack.
"I just asked if she was an elf. Don't overthink it." She reminded him of a character from a novel from his past world. He looked around the room but he saw no twins. "Now I feel sad. Maybe in the demon continent..." Jack whispered to himself.
More students were called one after the other. And it finally came Jack's turn.
"Jack Immortal. You may come." Professor Xena raised her voice.
Since everyone knew Jack was the last person to pass the entrance exam, everyone was paying attention to him. Once he was done testing his natural element, their student life would finally begin.
"What do you think your natural element will be, child?" Before Jack managed to touch the crystal ball, professor Xena asked him out of nowhere.
"I'm not sure. But I don't think it will be a gentle element like water, wood or light." Jack thought for a moment and answered honestly.
"We'll see." Professor Xena allowed him to touch the crystal ball.
Jack placed his hand on the crystal ball. But even after a couple of minutes, nothing appeared.
"He has no element affinity?" Some students began to whisper and some were even starting to mock Jack. A student with no element affinity was already doomed before he even started his journey.
Professor Xena's face didn't change. Her eyes didn't leave the crystal ball.
Jack was starting to get anxious. 'Come on, don't tell me I don't have any affinity. I refuse to believe it!'. Jack started to get angry, and he started to use the Bloody Tyrant Technique subconsciously.
A black color completely surrounded the crystal ball, with a tinge of bright red in the middle of it.
"The darkness element? But why is there also red?" Some students were confused seeing the red color in the middle of all the darkness.
"Death element..." Professor Xena spoke and the room grew quiet as soon as her words left her mouth.
