Chapter 1 - Prologue

WARNING: The prologue has a lot of brutal death and murder in it. If this isn't your preference, please skip to the next chapter. This will be talked about by the main characters later on, anyway.

(Genesis Biolab: 286 Years ago)

Footsteps draw closer and closer towards a room at the end of a hall that has 20-year-old Marcus Covey strapped to a table. The footsteps belong to Scientist Steve Patterson, Chief Scientist at Genesis. He walks in and looks down on Marcus with a smirk smeared across his face. He leans over Marcus, the two almost face to face as he starts speaking, a snarky, sarcastic tone in his voice.

"How are we today, Mr. Covey?"

Marcus looks up at him, absolutely livid.

"Screw you!"

He spits in Patterson's face, who stands up looking disgusted. He stands up and wipes the saliva off of his face.

"You just caused today's experiments to start early."

He rolls a control panel over next to the table and hooks a series of wires to Marcus' torso and limbs. He grabs a switch on the wall, a maniacal grin on his face.

"Now, rate your pain."

He pulls the switch, and the room lights up, filling with bright blue light as well as Marcus' screams. After what felt like hours of endless torture, the experiments end, and Marcus' vision fades to black as Patterson just waves at him, knowing his test subject was going to pass out. Once Marcus is out cold, Scientist Patterson turns to one of the doctors on the scene.

"Disconnect the sedative line. I'm going to go analyze today's data."

The doctor nods and reaches for the line. Right before he touches it, Marcus' body twitches and seemingly spits out the sedative needle on its own. Patterson turns around, stricken with surprise. He turns to the doctor.

"Get another needle in him! Quick!"

The doctor picks up a sterile needle and goes to poke Marcus with it. Right before making contact, Marcus' skin hardens and becomes steel, bending the needle in the process. They try several more, but they keep bending, Marcus' body seeming to act on its own to defend him. An hour later, after having failed several times, they try their last needle. Something different happens as Marcus' eyes shoot open and he looks directly at the doctor before his arm bursts into flames and melts the needle instantly, scorching the doctor in the process. The doctor falls backward, dead, his torso and face charred. Everyone instantly flees, except for one, who stays behind to try and deal with Marcus. He runs to the wall and grabs a gun. He turns back around to see Marcus melting his way out of the metal restraints as he turns toward the scientist, rage filling his eyes.

"...Tell me. Do you really expect that thing to work?"

Marcus stretches his palm toward the scientist. A gout of fire torches him, leaving him only able to scream. Once the flames clear, his charred body falls to the side, his mouth still open from screaming.

Marcus scoffs and walks toward the large, sealed titanium door. Placing his palms on it, his hands and arms turn to metal, and he rips the door away, an alarm setting off and an alert message.

"WARNING! WARNING! ASSET #83692-MMC20 HAS ESCAPED CONTAINMENT! ASSUME DEFENSE POSITIONS IMMEDIATELY TO SECURE THE ASSET!"

Loud footsteps approach Marcus as a bunch of scientists round the corner, holding guns. One of them speaks up out of the crowd.

"Stay right where you are, or we will be forced to open fire."

Marcus shrugs and punches the wall next to him, which causes the portion of the wall next to the scientists to hurl into them, flattening them against the other wall. The wall that moved retracts and Marcus walks through.

"Like you told me to, I stayed right where I was..."

He continues and is met with a giant brute at the door. The brute stands at 8 feet tall and has a tank of chemicals pumping into his veins.

"YOU'RE GOING NOWHERE, PUNY MAN! HAHAHAHA!"

Marcus looks unimpressed. He opens his mouth and calmly speaks.

"Is that so?"

The brute nods and starts chuckling again, but his laughs are cut short as his body starts heating up and the tank on his back bursts open, all the while Marcus is standing there calmly. The brute falls to his knees, screaming in pain.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!"

Marcus just stands there, still as calm as before.

"I simply boiled the chemical in that tank and in those tubes. The pressure of the boiling caused everything to burst. If that was your life source, then you're going to die in approximately 2 and a half minutes."

The brute falls to his side and quickly dies, Marcus watching the whole thing. Once the brute is out of the way, Marcus steps over one of his legs and walks out the front door. As he's walking off, Marcus hears a voice behind him.

"Where do you think you're going? Your tests aren't complete, yet."

Marcus turns around to see Patterson standing there. He looks Patterson in the eyes and speaks monotonously and coldly.

"I guess they won't be, either..."

Marcus coats his arms in fire and flies off, quickly out of sight. Patterson turns to the last remaining scientist in the facility aside from himself.

"Begin the preparations for the Subsonic Rifle. I'm going to find him and destroy him. These experiments can never be announced to the world."

The scientist nods and walks back into the facility. Several cities away, Marcus finally lands, instantly passing out in the process. He wakes up several days later in a strange house. He looks around and sees a woman hanging clothes up in a closet.

"Uh...hello?"

She jumps and turns around, looking at Marcus.

"Oh my god, you're awake. You've been laying there for a week and a half, and no one knows how long before I found you, and you were covered in blood-"

Marcus hold up his hand, cutting her off.

"Where are we?"

She shakes her head, coming back to her senses.

"Sorry. We're in my house in Amadeo City. Where are you from, anyway?"

Marcus hangs his head a bit.

"Miracle City, also known as the crime capital of the world."

She looks shocked at his response. Right before she's about to question it, he cuts her off.

"No, I'm not evil. I won't hurt you. I may have been covered in blood when you found me, but there's a story to it; a story you're nowhere near hearing."

She looks a bit defeated. It's almost as if he knew what she was going to ask.

"Well, uh, I'm Elizabeth. Elizabeth Jane, but everyone just calls me Lizzy."

Marcus started examining his wounds.

"Oh, uh, I'm Marcus. Marcus Covey."

(Sorry, but this will have to end a little short since it's only the prologue. Long story short, they end up together and he eventually tells her what he is, which changes nothing for their relationship. They go off to create a legacy, which leads to the main character, who you will meet in the next chapter. Until then! Have fun, take care!)
