Chapter 5 - 4/First hunt

POV Logan

I finally entered the forest in search of low-level monsters to kill, not only to earn money but also to level up. And if my level increases, so do my stats, especially the most important one, which is Calculations. As I advanced, I stumbled upon my first monster; it had green, wrinkled skin in places. It was a goblin armed with a rudimentary-looking spear. Upon seeing me, it rushed towards me at full speed.

"What a mistake." (Logan)

A wall immediately appeared between me and the goblin, but this wall was special as I had shaped it with spikes. The goblin, who had run towards me like a madman, ended up impaled on it. He trembled in pain, his body pierced in multiple places, spreading his blood on the ground and the wall. Then he died after a few brief seconds, and a message appeared on my status, and I felt my body strengthen, causing a pleasant sensation.

"My stats have increased a bit; I gained +10 in Calculations, not bad, but some stats have only increased a little, and some not at all." (Logan)

I looked at the goblin impaled on the wall as his blood flowed abundantly, then I took his spear.

"I'm going to need this." (Logan)

With the lance in hand, the nearby foliage suddenly rustled, and to my surprise, a group of 15 goblins appeared, looking visibly irritated.

"Oh, have you come to avenge your friend?" (Logan)

They screamed and responded by hurling their spears at me with all their strength, but despite their spears rushing towards me, I remained calm. I concentrated my will to use my skills and defend against the imminent attack. Confidence in my abilities grew within me, allowing me to face this adversity with composure and determination.

"Let's try this now." (Logan)

Without flinching, I maintained my position, staying still, while the goblins' spears finally reached my range. However, to my great satisfaction, they all fell to the ground without causing me the slightest scratch. The goblins seemed surprised and bewildered by the failure of their assault, offering a brief respite in this emerging battle.

"All right, now let me show you how it's done." (Logan)

Gripping the lance firmly in my hand, I threw it with exceptional force and speed towards one of the goblins. The lance pierced his chest before he even had time to react, making him collapse to the ground with a gaping hole in his body. Thanks to my skill, I had accelerated the lance's speed to the maximum, making it feel like I had a real gun in my hands.

This precise strike shocked the other goblins, who had not understood what had just happened. They regained their senses a few seconds later, immediately deciding to flee. Unfortunately for them, I hadn't allowed them to escape. They were all impaled by the spears they had thrown at me earlier.

"It's not bad at all; I gained 4 levels in less than an hour, and the best part is that I'm not even tired. I want to continue, but if I do, I won't be able to carry all the bodies."

So I decided to finally return to the guild with 16 goblin bodies, all impaled on a stone spike. Since they were all relatively small, it wasn't too difficult to put them there.

"How much can I get for these 16 goblins?" I asked the receptionist, who looked at me strangely.

"You know, for small prey like goblins, you just need to cut off their ears as proof that you subdued them!" (Receptionist)

"Ah, I didn't know, sorry, but what about the reward?" (Logan)

"You will receive 160 copper coins." (Receptionist)

"That's 10 coins per head, and copper coins seem to have little value. I also need to learn more about this world quickly." I thought.

So, I asked the receptionist if there was a place where I could learn more.

"Tell me, do you have a library?" (Logan)

"Yes, of course, but it's reserved for guild members." (Receptionist)

"And how do you become a member?" (Logan)

"To register, you need to pay a fee of 200 copper coins, and you will be given a Guild Card, along with the adventurer rank that comes with it." (Receptionist)

"I see, thank you, and also, can I leave this here?" I said, pointing to the goblins piled on the spike.

"And where are you going?" (Receptionist)

"Hunting!" (Logan)

I went to a small shop and bought a small bag, then headed back to the forest at full speed, becoming faster. Accelerating myself as I had done with the spears, I quickly reached the forest.

[Calculations used 50]

I found a small group of 20 goblins, and with an instinctive smile, I picked up nearby stones and quickly transformed them into sharp projectiles. With skillful movements, I threw these improvised spikes at the small group of 20 goblins. The projectiles hit their target with remarkable precision, piercing all the goblins in the head, bringing them down dramatically.

Only one goblin survived, but it immediately fled, realizing that all its comrades had been eliminated in an instant. My increasing mastery of my skills allowed me to face more and more opponents with deadly efficiency.

"They're already giving me less experience," I thought, watching the remaining goblin run. "That's right, lead me to your village." I said, following him.

For over 10 minutes, I chased the fleeing goblin through the forest. Eventually, a clearing opened up in front of me, dotted with wooden huts. It was clearly a goblin camp, and the alarm was raised when the goblin I was chasing arrived. The huts quickly emptied, and dozens of other goblins began converging en masse from their shelters.

Confronted with an enormous group of around 200 angry goblins, I didn't try to hide and deliberately exposed myself. Their roars of anger echoed through the forest. Suddenly, the sky darkened as a rain of spears was launched by the goblins in my direction. My brain quickly went to work, calculating that I wouldn't be able to protect myself from all the spears with my current skills.

Preferring evasion this time, I skillfully dodged the spears by moving swiftly. All the projectiles planted themselves in the ground behind me, creating a forest of deadly spikes. My quick decision had allowed me to avoid imminent danger, but the situation remained extremely tense.

The enraged cries of the goblins tore through the forest as they rushed towards me in a furious charge. Creating a wall wouldn't be enough to hold them all back this time. I quickly realized it was time to change strategy. Instead of facing them head-on, I decided to trap and bombard them.

My mind engaged to calculate the best way to set up this trap. I was looking for a tactical advantage that would allow me to win in this perilous situation. My time to act was limited, and I had to be fast and precise in my execution to hope to survive this deadly goblin charge.

With calm determination, I placed a hand on the ground. The goblins, initially perplexed, quickly realized that something strange was happening. Instead of continuing to run towards me, they began to fall, the sunlight fading from them as they descended into a vast pit I had created.

My power had taken over, trapping them in an unexpected ambush. Panic swept through the goblin horde as they fell into the pit I had generated.

My second hand touched the ground, causing deadly spikes to emerge from the ground to create a lethal trap. I stood up to observe the macabre spectacle unfolding before my eyes, with the goblins falling into the pit I had created and being impaled from all sides. Their cries of terror and pain echoed through the forest.

Of course, some survived, but I didn't hesitate to bombard them with their own spears they had thrown at me, ending their lives. The pit was now rapidly filling with their blood in large quantities, creating a nightmarish tableau of destruction. My strategy had worked, allowing me to repel the goblin assault efficiently and brutally.

"Well, that's a lot of blood; we'll be able to swim in it soon." (Logan)
