Chapter 2 - Invasion

Laying in the middle of a green, grassy field, I awoke upon the brilliant rays of the sun beaming directly at my eyes. The sound of birds chirping flew along the gentle wind that rustled the grass below me. I dropped my head into my hand as I sat up from the hard ground. "Ugh," I groaned. There was a faint pounding sensation in the back of my head.

The last couple of days felt like an eerie and incomplete dream compared to the recent series of events but they resonated strongly within me. Quickly, the pain intensified; my head began to throb rapidly as I attempted to recall the events prior to my banishment of Aerodom.

"You were bestowed with the blessings of our people," I heard the woman's voice again as I tapped into a state of remembrance. Visions of the mysterious invaders began flooding my mind again. It was sunny outside and the sky was painted a beautiful array of colors enhancing its crimson glare from the sunset. There were many fairies flying around the various stone buildings and lively trees that gave Aerodom a distinct natural apperance. In the middle of the large floating island, there was a large fountain of what appeared to be a luscious and radiant purple-ish, pink elixir.

"STOP!" a feminine voice commanded.

The outburst drew the attention of everybody in the area. Heads turned and eyes locked onto the sight of an elven warrior. She appeared youthful with soft facial features that could charm anybody she wishes. However, the fiery look in her amber eyes depicted a warrior trained to kill.

She appeared to be talking to a man hidden in a cloak. His vividly pink eyes burned through all gazes with an intimidating gaze of their own.

"Oh," the man spoke softly, "and what if I don't?" Tilting his head, he smirked down at the girl.

"As a guardian of Aerodom, I, Vivian Aerota, demand you to stop!" she commanded through her clenched teeth. An expression of intolerance and impatience filled her face as her eyes stared blankly into the man's soul.

"Kneel!" he commanded.

Nearly frozen in place with the exception of her knees buckling, the guardian let the man pass by. Her legs dropped to the ground as if they were heavy and could no longer bear the weight of her body.

"Stop!" she meekly called out.

Her body was shaking in defiance of her will to get up. With sweat pouring down her face, she clenched her teeth and mustered whatever strength she could find. Using her fist to propel herself from the ground, she stood up and launched her arm back before forcefully thrusting it forward through the calm air.

Suddenly, a striking wave of wind shredded through the air as it homed in on the back of the man.

Slightly turning his head, the man looked at the attack and muttered a sequence of words.

"Cadent Mais"

The burst of wind vanished as it quickly dispersed into weaker gusts. Vivian's eyes wavered; they shook rapidly at the sight of her attack being so easily dismissed.

Preparing his attack, the man raised his hand. The smirk on his face descended into a solemn frown. "Hear me as I call out," he said, "and destroy all in my path."

"Ignis vero perderent"

My eyes widened as he uttered those words. A chill went down my spine before an abrupt emergence of flames descended upon Vivian and all the fairies near her. "Shit," I mumbled.

Having Reacted to the sound of the words, my body sprung into action. Within an instant, I had bridged the gap between Vivian and I. Before I could blink, I threw my arms up to defend against the attack. A different pair of flames shielded us against the attack, but I could feel the extreme heat of the outside flames searing my skin. My throat felt parched as I dropped to the ground. Sweat dripped from every pore in my body as my lungs tried to sustain themselves with the little oxygen remaining.

*ssssshhhh.... BOOM*

A huge crater had formed as a result of the attack. The small bodies of fairies laid upon the now barren and broken ground. Ashes and dust were swept up by the leftover winds from the attack. All I could feel was an intensive fear and anger clawing against me from the inside as a passionate burning sensation overcame me.

"Your sole duty was to protect our land and its people, but instead you have committed a grave sin against Aerodom." I recalled the words from the anonymous voices that had banished me. Clutching my head further in the agonizing pain, I tried to remember what had happened after the attack.

*WHOOSH* *WHOOSH*

A reemergence of heat surrounded me as flames combusted from my body. My vision grew impaired; it became incredibly difficult for me to see anything other than the man in front me and the scorching hot flames whipping around me.

Slowly, I marched toward the man with every step leaving a blazing footprint on the ground. My breathing had slowed down to long, drawn breaths. I could barely feel my body, but my chest was incredibly tense; it burned, but I couldn't care less. All that mattered was eliminating the threat before me.

"You bastard," I uttered.

The vision ended quickly as the constant headache intensified. I groaned and fell back to the ground in an attempt to ease the tension. Moving my head over to the right, I spotted a distant river among the clusters of trees ahead.
