That scenario I had witnessed—heard—had kept me wondering for the next few days. There was a strange man mentioning a ‘boss’ who had entrusted something valuable to Evelyn; however, it appears that the man didn’t trust her enough. That fact alone was intriguing enough for me.
There was something going on, I could tell. But I could only infer at the moment. I could create theories as much as I wanted, and yet, none of it could be true. There was only one way to know, to be sure. All I wanted was for my questions to be answered.
It was a dry afternoon, exactly a week after hearing Evelyn with the men, as I wandered again to the back of the sports building. I already checked the place before, but I was still hoping to uncover something I might have missed.
I looked at the chain that was still coiled tightly around the door handles of the storage room. The padlock was upturned, joining the dangling ends of the chain—three holes up both—just how they left it a week ago.
