“What are you doing right now?” the voice from the other line said, accompanied by a clicking of a retractable pen. It was an idle sound; done absentmindedly, as if in place of a stress ball.
“Aside from thinking of you?” I replied, smiling at the half-filled mug on my desk; completely ignoring the Science reviewer set I was answering half way through.
The clicking stopped and I heard an amused exhale. I could imagine Yana smiling on the other end and I continued, “Here, doing what you’re probably doing as well.” And there came an exhale again, but more of a groan this time.
“I’m sorry, did I disturb you?” Yana said, worried that she was violating the agreement we had made. She had proposed a schedule for the whole summer, allotting most of the time for the college entrance exams review, and breaks for us to talk or message each other.
