The next day, I went back to the hospital to visit Jeremy. He was recovering fast seeing he had gained a bit of color from an overnight rest, but I think it was especially because of Pauline who was already in his room when I arrived. I noticed that his fluffy hair was brushed now and his face was wiped clean of dirt. He had this smile, too, like the first light of day after a long storm.
I think it was relieving that we got to talk about the incident, now that it was all over. We were basically strangers, but that experience alone was enough for us to become friends. It felt absurd to me. I had come so far from the snobbish recluse I once was.
