“You go without me,” Jeremy slurred as I sluggishly lifted his arm to my shoulder.

“Dummy. Get up!” I said, gritted my teeth, and pulled us up with all my might. “There are people waiting for us back there!” I let out an uneven breath as we limped away from plywood dividers curled up in flames and plastic sheets reduced into smoke.

“We have to move to the other side. Away from the fire,” I stated with the back of my hand covering my nose. The fire exit wasn’t passable now as the fire had erupted in that corner of the room. The attic may be the last to be torched but there was no way to get out from it at all; the window was too small even for a child. It would do more harm if we get trapped there.
