Chapter 52 - Chapter 50

We headed to the Baron's office in the town hall where we are to discuss the decisions. The final verdict would be coming from the baron, but we are mainly there to share our opinions.

As I opened the door to the baron's office, everyone had an air of joy as they praised Sean with his mock battles. Apparently, Denis and the others were watching from the town hall's rooftop before we came, so they were able to see everything.

"By the way, what did you do with that guy? The one who just fell unconscious out of nowhere?" Leyla asks. "I'm not sure about that," Sean responded, " I didn't do any follow-up after I turned my back on him."

"Could it be a delayed reaction?" Cyrill mused. If he's talking about a sudden burst and drain of adrenaline, then I guess that is a suitable theory.

I don't know about the twins, but as far as I can tell, only Leyla is capable of harnessing ambient mana, but that's only with the usage of her bow. The others can't tell much about mana fluctuations since they don't have mana to feel it with.

The twins, although having the quasi-blood attribute like Anna, they didn't show signs of knowing either. To be fair, even I wouldn't have been able to notice if I hadn't focused entirely.

Sitri might have had an inkling, but she was focused on a different matter, so it seems she didn't catch hold of what Anna did either.

"The town hall's staff will take care of that adventurer. For now, I want to hear everyone's opinions," the baron called everyone's attention.

"Personality-wise, there are only a few who seems respectable among them," Sitri commented. "The first guy was pretty good though, especially as someone who doesn't have mana," Sean added.

The first guy was the one who questioned the baron about fighting a kid, referring to Sean. Sean was using his blood attribute to compete and overpower those guys, so it is already obvious they can't win even as adventurers.

"Yeah, he's a good swordsman. Rank D adventurer, Lester Agnel. Twenty-two years old. He's specialized in sword fighting but lacks in mental qualities. He's a straightforward fighter who acts before he thinks," Brandon said as he read through the adventurer's file.

"White, what do you think?" Sean asks. I am laying low at the side of the room with Anna just trying to listen in and avoid attention, but it seems such a thing is just wishful thinking.

"Regardless of his mental qualities, if you can command him properly, he would be a great asset," I voiced my opinion. Of course, the person's mentality is also important, but if you have a leader who can aid to complete what that person lacks, it is possible to properly make use of him.

However, if said mental qualities are more inadequate than the leader can handle, then I think 'manipulate' would be a better word than 'command.'

"I think that what White said has meaning, but that would depend on Sean's capabilities as a leader. Do you think you can handle him?" Sitri asks. She does have a point though.

If I were to say who's a better leader between the twins, I would say it's Sitri because of her more collected demeanor. Although Sean can act as a leader, I would say he's more fit to be the one taking the order into action.

"I'm not so sure about that, to be honest," Sean responds. "We'll be there to help you, so it's fine," Brandon reassured Sean. He doesn't look like he's convinced, but it appears he already has his answer.

"Since we have Anna here, we only need one more person. Do you guys have anyone else in mind?" The baron asks. From the way the adventurers used their swords, only a few really caught my attention.

Although none of their styles felt adaptable like Anna's, only a few really did come to mind. "How about the green-haired adventurer. He didn't last long like Lester, but he was certainly calm in his judgments," Sitri spoke up.

I would prefer an adventurer who's lively and upright to connect Lester with the group, having someone who can efficiently follow orders is also great. I do have some thoughts on the matter, but we can fix that along the way.

"Adventurer rank E, Alfen Gilbar. Fifteen-years old. He's a decent swordsman with average stats all in all. I also second this choice," Brandon added. The reason why we're using low-ranking adventurers is because of the original problem.

For adventurers, fame and money are important along with seeking treasures and new lands. If we hire high-ranking adventurers, even the dungeon exploration contract wouldn't be enough for their demands.

The baron nodded his head in agreement. "I'll call upon these adventurers later on. As for Brandon and young lord Sean, please come back later. Everyone else is dismissed," the baron said.

The baron stayed in his office to do some paperwork, but everyone else went out for lunch. Since it was early morning, we headed to the town stalls. It's only been a few days since Galaxia appeared, but everyone seems to have regained their calm and is living normally.

After lunch, Anna, Sitri, and I went back to the mansion while Sean and Brandon went back to the Baron's office. As for the rest of the BBS party, they went back to the dungeon to construct the traps they thought of and try to prevent and clear the upper floors.

I would have liked to come along, but I didn't get enough sleep last night so I refrained from doing so. Luckily, since I'm technically a child, Leyla and the rest didn't mind.

"Come to think of it, where did Sophia go?" I asked. "She left early in the morning saying she need to find a protector for her pendant," Anna responded.

It seems Anna really treasures that pendant. I don't know if she remembers something about it or not, but I'll just let her be for now.

Since there wasn't really anything much to do inside the baron's mansion, Sitri lead a coup on the kitchen, taking over it from the head chef. Like yesterday, we passed the time experimenting with the recipes Sitri wanted to make.

I took it for granted, but it seems Anna has been opening up to us for a while now. The reason is probably because of Sitri's friendly delinquent-ish personality which is straightforward and positive. I would have called her personality rough, but her elegant air nulls that thought.

The day flew by so fast, and the next thing I know, it's already the next day and I'm facing the two new adventurers part of our party.

"G-good morning, everyone. My name is Alfen Gilbar and it's a pleasure to meet you," Alfen greeted us rather awkwardly. It may be because he's feeling shy, so I extended my hand and responded calmly.

"Nice to meet you Alfen. You can call me White," I said. He looks at me with visible confusion before letting out dry laughter and shaking my hand. "It's my pleasure," he responded.

"M-my name is Lester Agnel... Uhm, you can call me Lester. It's my pleasure to meet you," Lester was the man from yesterday who looked unmannered, but right now, he's acting really tame.

First impression-wise, it's understandable that Alfen who looks to be in his late teens would appear shy. On the other hand, it's pretty confusing seeing Lester act like this as he was one of the loud ones from yesterday.

The reason for this was probably because Sean introduced himself as a young lord of a prominent house from the south. I figured using Sean's title would arouse desires from these adventurers, resulting in them trying to act accordingly.

After Lester and Alfen greeted everyone, we headed to the dungeon site. Surprisingly, the area looks different from what it used to be.

"What happened to the trees here?" I asked. The forest, which was originally luscious green, has become wrapped with thin silver thread, similar to a spider web.

"These are steel threads," Cyrill explained, "It may seem messy, but trust us. These babies' durability is top-notch, enough to even cut through bear pelt."

It's true that it's really messy as if they just coiled the steel threads around the forest. However, it being messy is what actually makes it unpredictable. It seems Cyrill and the rest have understood this.

Entering the dungeon, we were greeted with kobolds. It seems Denis and the others weren't able to clear much of them as the numbers increased to about fifteen. Like before, I came easy with my swordsmanship, minimizing the skills I'm displaying while observing the two newcomers.

"Hey! Move out the way will you!" Lester exclaimed. It's probably because of the pressure of having to face too many at once, but he seems to have lost his cool on Alfen.

"M-my bad," Alfen replied stutteringly. Alfen, rather than having a calm nature, is more awkward which results in his calmness. The difference may seem small, but such things often mean that he lacks initiative and determination in his actions.

With all our numbers inside the dungeon, we were able to safely finish off all of the kobolds. "Easier than I thought," Anna comments as she stopped keeping her attribute active, returning to using her sword as a cane.

"It could have been worse," I responded, looking at the two adventurers as if looking at a tiger and a rabbit. Anna clicked her tongue as she looked at the two.

"That's enough you two," Sean intervened, "we'll start exploring deeper tomorrow. For now, let's go home and take a rest." I'm honestly impressed with the tone Sean used, asserting his authority.

"Y-yes, of course, young lord Sean," Lester answered. Alfen looked as if he just remembered how to exhale as he deflated like a balloon, released from the pressure of Lester.

"Would this really work out?" Anna asks. "Not everything goes well the first time, right?" I ask back. She simply nodded her head before placing an arm on my shoulders so that I could assist her.

"Well, at least I hope so," I added in a murmur.
