Chereads / The Impossible Family / Chapter 46 - Teacher of the Year

Chapter 46 - Teacher of the Year

(Open POV)

Memory Tardis…

A mash-up of various Tardis themes and contents.

"Where the devil am I?" Jamie asked.

"You're in a TARDIS." Jared said, drinking some bubble tea.

"Oh, I think it's the TARDIS, in a manner of speaking." Zoe said, happily.

"Zoe?" Jamie asked.

"Hello, Jamie!" Zoe said, excitedly.

"Zoe! Oh!"

"Oh, Jamie, Jamie! You remember!" Zoe said, hugging Jamie.

"Of course I remember. Mind you, I forgot for so long." Jamie said, smiling.

"Well, the Time Lords made you forget. When the both of you left the Doctor. They erased your memories. The Doctor had to do it himself to one of our friends. Donna Noble." Jared said, walking around the Memory TARDIS.

"That makes a lot of sense. But in here, it's all back. Every adventure, every story, every single moment!" Zoe cheered.

"Aye, but how did we get here? And where's the Doctor?" Jamie asked.

"Oh, he'll be out there somewhere in the stars."

"This isn't for the Doctor. It's for you two, Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot." Jared said, looking between Jamie and Zoe. "I'm Jared Shay. One of the latest companions of the Doctor." He picked up the second Doctor's recorder and handed it to Zoe. "Here you go. Memory lane."

"Oh." Zoe said, looking down at the second Doctor's recorder.

"I've missed him every day of my life, but I didn't even realise it." Jamie said, sadly.

"Well, what the Time Lords did to the two of you was unforgivable. They overstepped their boundaries. And I asked the TARDIS to bring you both here." Jared said, smiling. "Mostly to undo what they've done to the two of you. I got that inspiration after stopping a musician trying to take over the world."

"Jared, was this one last gift from the Doctor?"

"Well. Yeah. I watched your adventures on TV back home. Even though most weren't archived by the BBC."

"Most of our adventures were wiped?" Jamie asked.

"Mostly yours, Jamie. The ones you had with Ben and Polly. On top of ones you had with Victoria Waterfield. He never forgot about you. The Doctor, a while ago for me. I was with him, our companion at the time, Rose, along with two friends of mine. We were in Scotland and we encountered Queen Victoria. And there was a werewolf. The Doctor introduced himself to Queen Victoria as James McCrimmon in a Scottish accent."

"He didn't forget about me. I'd still be with him now if I could, trying to keep up with him."

"Jamie, after all this time away from the Doctor. Do you have a family?"

"Aye. Five daughters." Jamie said, smiling.

"Oh!" Zoe said, excitedly.

"Legs hairier than mine, and 19 grandchildren."

"Nineteen?!" Zoe exclaimed.

"Aye, not so wee any more." Jamie said.

"Well, I have a son. A scientist. I named him James."

"A...after me?"

"I never realised before, but... Well, of course after you!"

"Oh. Did you marry a man from the Space Wheel?"

"No, no. We met on Earth, in Australia."

"Ha! I've been there. Got shot at." Jamie said, happily.

"Oh, we got shot at all the time. Jared, do you get shot with the Doctor?"

"All the time. Even after taking a break from traveling with the Doctor. I get shot at. Not by aliens or robots mind you, by ghosts." Jared said, drinking his bubble tea.

"Ghosts?" Zoe asked.

"Yeah. I was thinking of ending my travels with the Doctor soon. But I don't know how to do it."

"Do you want to do it?"

"I don't know."

"Aye. Ending your time with the Doctor on your own terms. I wish we got that, Jared." Jamie said, looking between Jared and Zoe. "But look at you, Zoe. Ever so noble."

"Oh, presidential robes, thank you very much. This is my third inauguration." Zoe said, smiling.

"President?"

"Mmm-hmm."

"The Doctor would be so proud."

"He would be. Someday, I'm going to be President of the World." Jared said, smirking. "People have been teasing it left and right to me on my adventures with him. I know it is going to be with emergency situations. But still. President."

"You two as President." Jamie said, laughing a lot. "I wonder how much of a laugh the Doctor got out of that."

"Isn't it funny. All the things he showed us, and taught us, I've been using them every single day of my life without realising? All those experiences were at the back of my mind, pushing me forwards." Zoe said, sadly.

"Me too. Do you think we'll ever see the Doctor again?"

"Oh, I'm not sure. But we keep him alive by telling our stories."

Three chairs appear, they sit down.

"Oh. So, we tell our stories to each other and to our families." Jamie said.

"Yes. Pass them down, generation after generation." Zoe said.

"Ah, well, where do we begin? And don't say Cybermen. I want to forget about the Cybermen."

"Okay. We don't have to bring that up. I know the TARDIS wants you to do a therapy session. And with me as your therapist. Where's a good place to start?" Jared asked, sipping on his bubble tea. "The Krotons? No wait. That adventure was a disaster for you both. The Quarks! That'll work."

"The Quarks, aye. The wee metal beasties. And didn't the Tardis get swallowed by lava?" Jamie asked.

"Yes! And then things got worse." Zoe said, happily.

"That's right. I remember now."

Computer player's POV - ROBOT VISION…

Around the edges, tiny screens are clustered. The top left heading is 'NERD KID'. The bottom left heading is 'SCORE --825'. The bottom left heading is. An image comes up on his computer showing two red bars maxing out. NERD KID begins running through the halls wielding a ridiculously single-barreled blaster pistol.

A gate…

NERD KID runs through the gate with the pistol and stops safely, turning back toward the gate, hearing stomping. NERD KID runs with the pistol and runs away and off. The doors has Chaos's legs by it. The full body of Chaos has her arms holding pistols. Chaos has a determined look.

(Jared's POV)

Lab / Tucker's bedroom…

Danny is wearing the Fenton Helmet and he sits at his computer.

"That's the trouble with these online video games. Too many unqualified random players." Tucker said.

"I know what you mean. Nobody but us has a clue. Except for that Chaos guy. That guy is unstoppable." Danny said.

"He was unstoppable." I said, using dual pistols to shoot at Chaos. "Watch this, Danny, Tucker. Hey. Chaos. Game over!"

"Still not stopped."

"Danny, I just want you to know, I accidentally killed your gerbil in the 6th grade." Tucker said, sadly.

"What?" Danny asked, dying in the game.

"Aw man. Smoked again." Tucker said, annoyed.

"Darn it. I thought using the Fenton Helmet as my game controller would give me an edge, not hat hair." Danny said, removing the Fenton Helmet from his head.

"And I honestly thought using the AmuSphere would help." I said, removing the AmuSphere from my head.

"Ah." Technus said, being released from the Ghost Portal. "Haha! Once again, I, Technus, master of all things electronic and beeping, am free once again to conquer this world." He looked over at the Doomed video game. "To conquer this world. Although, that world looks more entertaining. And the fashion sense is far superior. Perhaps it is there that I shall be king."

"Not gonna happen." I said, going ghost. "You're not gonna take over the internet."

"At least the hair's better." Danny said, going ghost.

"Oh that stinks." Technus said, wrapping Danny and I in an electric shield. "No matter. I shall return! So long ghost boys."

"Oh great. Constantly getting zapped in Doomed is bad enough but now we have to track down that loser. Or we can deal with it tomorrow. It is tomorrow. Jared, we've been up all night." Danny said, looking over at me.

"We have." I said, holding my AmuSphere headset in my head. "I'm glad I retrofitted my AmuSphere to work with this early 2000s game."

"Same." Danny said, yawning. "Oh well, one sleepy day at school and one lame ghost freed. What's the worst that could happen?"

(Open POV)

Classroom…

"Pencils down. All tests in. Ah teaching. Always rewarding." Mr. Lancer said, happily.

(Jared's POV)

Amity Park

"Last time, Technus fused a monster out of the junk from my dad's shed." Danny said.

"Guys. Be on the lookout for any runaway electronics." I said, skating away on my hoverboard. "He could be anywhere in Amity Park."

"Copy. Objective is to defeat the boss and power him down to level zero." Tucker said.

"Uh level zero is a no man's land, Sam. It's a glitch in the Doomed program. If you get knocked into it, you're stuck there." Danny said.

"I cannot begin to tell you how interesting that is." Sam said, riding on her electric scooter.

"If you were game savvy you'd know that." Tucker said, riding on his electric scooter.

"Oh really. Let me tell you something…" Sam said, looking up at the sky. "Hold it. I got something. Fast moving garage sale headed east toward the park."

"Yes." Technus said, as the electronic devices merge and went on top of his body. "Come to me, my beautiful technology. And together we shall build a new body worthy of my greatness. Something sleek, stylish and totally modern. Yeah baby!"

"Look familiar? Technus saw me playing Doomed last night and now he's trying to look like Chaos." Danny said.

"The way you play, he shouldn't be hard to beat." Tucker said, smirking.

"Ignoring that. Okay, Tuck, Jared, here's what we'll do. You two distract him with an L2 throttle right maneuver and I'll power up and engage him in battle mode."

"No fighting him up close?" I asked, standing on my hoverboard.

"Not this time, Jared."

"What about me?" Sam asked.

"You stay here, Sam. You probably don't know the moves that we're talking about here." Danny said, looking at Sam.

"Yeah, you'd just get in the way. Time to show him what 5 volts of manly battery power can really do." Tucker said, scootering away towards the park.

Park…

"Hey! Technus!" I said, skating away on my hoverboard. "Over here!"

"We've got him distracted. Hit him Danny." Tucker said, happily.

"So much for battle mode, huh?" Sam asked.

"Okay. This calls for advance mode with an intangibility bonus." Danny said, sending a ghost ray at Technus.

"Yeah boy. This is better than the gauntlet of doom in level 9." Tucker said, smiling.

"Cool. How'd I do that?"

"No! I, Technus, am getting tired of getting beaten by you and the Black Pearl." Technus said, looking at Danny.

"Yeah well you Technus, are going to need to learn some new video game moves if you want to beat us."

"You're right. I have all of the style, but none of the substance. I must acquire these new skills." Technus said, self destructing his robot suit. "And I know exactly where I can do that."

"You won. Great job, Danny." Tucker said.

"Danny, Technus self-destructed his robot suit." I said, sadly. "We didn't win."

"Eh, whatever. Jared, you and me are here, he's gone, and that means our work here is done." Danny said, looking at me.

"Cool. So, what do you want to do?" Sam asked.

Doomed / Lab …

"Okay, Tuck, Jared, just like in the park." Danny said, looking between Tucker and I.

"I'm all over it." Tucker said, frowning.

"Same." Jared said, letting out a sigh. "It's been a long day."

"Aw man. It's like he was three steps ahead of us. Uhh another all-nighter." Danny said, yawning.

I logged out of the game and removed the AmuSphere headset off my head. Danny and I left the lab, letting Technus (who comes out of the Fenton Phones) to easily enter the computer screen and into the game itself.

(Open POV)

Classroom…

"By and large I'm pleased with the test results. I know the poetry of the 19th century is enough to put one to sleep. This, however, borders on sarcasm." Lancer said, looking at a sleeping Danny. "A word, Danny." He tried to wake up Danny so he can see the F on his exam. "Danny when a teacher looks at his student he hopes to see the reflection of his own abilities. When I look at you, I see my own F. I don't like to fail, do you?"

"M-Mr. Lancer. I-I can explain…" Danny said, looking down at the F.

"I need no explanations, I need results. So, you know what I'm going to do?"

"Pass me so you don't look bad?"

"Ha ha no. However I am going to give you the opportunity to do better. I'm making you retake the test."

"But it's only one stupid test."

"One stupid test that accounts for one quarter of your final grade. That's 25% in case you're failing math as well. You have three days to study for the make-up. Get it?"

"Got it."

Doomed / Internet cafe…

"I got it! If you crack the safe at MegaMart you get an extra life." Danny said, typing away on the school's computer.

"That extra life will come in handy when Lancer kills you for flunking again." Sam said.

"You flunked twice already, Danny." I said, shooting at enemies with my dual pistols. "You can't risk it again."

"What's she doing here? She can't be here to play." Tucker said.

"Oh, because I'm a girl? And us girls are lacking in what? Opposable thumbs, one track minds, stupid berets?" Sam asked.

"Hey!" Tucker said, angrily.

"As much as I hate to say it, Sam and Jared have got a point. I probably should be studying. Tuck? Jared?" Danny asked.

"I'll stick with goofing off. We're going to need all the ammo we can get if we're going to defeat Chaos." Tucker said.

"Chaos is nothing compared to Lancer. Imagine if he caught me in here."

"Yes, imagine that." Mr. Lancer said.

Doomed…

"My last form was unstable, and I was unable to conceal myself from those annoying children. But this new body is much more, how would the kids say it today, far out? In this new body they shall never know it's me. Technus!" Technus yelled.

"Hey! Look out!" I said, shooting some enemies behind Technus.

"Excellent. You are quite the game player, bespectacled one." Technus said.

"Thanks." I said, looking down at my dual pistols. "I know a few moves."

"Perhaps you and your friend could teach me these 'moves' of which you speak. Then I can become as hip and far out as the two of you." Technus said, looking between Tucker and I.

"Hip? Far out?" Tucker asked, at a loss for words. "Wow, you do need help. Fortunately you came to the right place. Step into our office."

"Well, this is the second level." I said, holding my dual pistols. "This is the bridge of doom. You need stealth, cunning, and super fast reflexes." I managed to do some gymnastics I learned while traveling with the Doctor. "Watch and learn."

"That was informative. But let me try something." Technus said, using his ghost powers to get through the obstacle.

"Awesome. I've never seen that power in this game before." Tucker said, happily.

"You mean, I have powers here that the two of you don't? Interesting."

A while has passed, and Tucker, Technus and I are on Level 3. I honestly can't believe we made it this far and that Tucker is blind to notice that Technus is here.

"Okay. Doing good so far. Keep this up and you can help us defeat Chaos. We'll show you the ropes." Tucker said.

"Are these the ropes of which you speak?" Technus asked.

"Nope. Those are Shaolin Wushu warlords." I said, rolling my eyes.

(Open POV)

Lancer's car…

"Playing an internet video game is hardly the stuff of human drama, Danny." Mr. Lancer said.

"But it's fun." Danny said.

"Fun is relative. When I see a student pass through the portal of Casper High for the last time, brimming with the knowledge it takes to make it in the outside world, to me, that's fun."

"Then you need to get out more."

"And you need to stay in more. And here are a couple of people who will make you do just that." Mr. Lancer said, parking his car in front of Danny's house.

"My parents?!" Danny exclaimed.

Doomed…

"Now what exactly is the purpose of this skill contest?" Technus asked.

"Well, it's much easier than Sword Art Online. You don't have to reach Floor 100 and beat the final boss. It isn't a death game. For Doomed, to beat all the enemies, you have to do this. You have to reach the 13th floor and get all 7 keys to stop the apocalypse." Jared said, smiling.

"And what happens after that?"

"You have ultimate power and access to the internet."

"Very well. Then I, Technus, shall use my ghost powers and newfound gaming prowess to win the game and spread my intellect to every machine in the world! My, that was a long speech." Technus said, looking between Tucker and Jared.

"What? Technus?" Tucker asked.

"Bingo, bubbies." Technus said, using his ghost powers to get away from Jared and Tucker. "Game over. That was fun."

"Oh no. Technus is in the game and he's able to use his ghost powers. Jared, we've got to stop him before he gets to the internet." Tucker said, looking over at Jared.

Fenton Works…

"Lazy. Unfocused. Ill-prepared. Lethargic. Need I go on?" Mr. Lancer asked.

"Dad, I…" Danny said, looking at Jack.

"Now that's enough of your sass talk mister." Jack said.

"What do you suggest, Mr. Lancer?" Maddie asked.

"Danny will pass. I know he's capable. But I'd like him to spend his after school hours in my office studying until I administer the makeup exam." Mr. Lancer said.

"But he has stuff to do after class." Jazz said, simultaneously with Danny.

"But I have stuff to do after class. How do you know that?" Danny asked, simultaneously with Jazz.

"Ah but consider this. If you fail, you may be held back a year. If it's boring once, imagine taking it again." Mr. Lancer said, looking at Danny.

"Get this straight Danny. You're a Fenton. Fentons get As. Or in your father's case, B minuses." Maddie said.

"Solid B minuses." Jack said.

"Until you retake this test and pass it with flying colors, we're forbidding access to all electronic devices."

"It's Tucker." Danny said, taking his ringing phone out of his pocket.

"He's busy!" Jack said, taking Danny's phone and ending the call.

Doomed / Amity Park…

"Interesting. I seem to grow stronger, and with each vanquished foe." Technus said, speeding through the game with his ghost powers.

"This is bad. He's figuring the game out. Why won't Danny answer?" Tucker asked.

"He's busy getting lectured by Mr. Lancer and his parents. Jazz is there too." Jared said, sadly.

"Jared's right. Could you and Jared use a hand?" Sam asked.

"Fat chance. It's every man for himself." Tucker said.

Doomed / Casper High…

"Every man, huh?" Sam asked, logging into the game as Chaos.

"What? You're Chaos?" Tucker asked.

"If you were game savvy, you'd know that. I'm Ghost Boy. I'm Friar Tuck. I'm Blue Jay. We don't need your help because you're a girl." Sam said, rolling her eyes.

"Alright alright. Enough already." Tucker said, annoyed.

"I can't believe it was you dusting us all this time. Why didn't you say something?" Danny asked, logging into the game.

"I tried to, but between the condescension and the cockiness I barely had time for anything else." Sam said.

"Well, the main thing is Sam and Jared can help me fight Technus while you're out of commission. I mean, Jared and I can help Sam." Tucker said.

"What a mess. It's my fault Technus is out there while I'm stuck studying the world's dullest subject." Danny said.

"Danny, just leave everything to us!" Jared said, excitedly. "It'll be fine. I promise."

"Jared's right, as always." Sam said. "Technus may have the power but we've got the moves."

"We do. A friend of mine, Yui, has access to the data from the games on my Nintendo Switch along with the accounts I have on ALO and GGO. She can just add them onto Doomed."

"And I've got lots of cheat codes and secret power ups in my arsenal. Of course, you guys must know all of those, too, right? Weird the girls do. Maybe you guys need to communicate better."

"Danny Fenton. My classroom. Now." Mr. Lancer said, through the school's speakers.

Classroom…

"Going somewhere, Mr. Fenton?" Lancer asked, looking at Danny trying to leave the classroom.

"Uh, just stretching my legs." Danny said, standing up and looking at Lancer writing to his sister. "Oh, writing your sister, huh? You have a sister?"

"I haven't seen her in ages. Can't afford the plane fare. You know this would be an excellent time for you to say 'gosh Mr. Lancer, I never realized being a teacher could be so difficult'."

"I'm 14. I don't really care." Danny said.

"Yes, yes. Of course. I'm gonna get some air." Mr. Lancer said, leaving the classroom…

"Gotta cross teacher off my what I wanna be when I grow up list."

(Jared's POV)

Doomed / Classroom…

"You guys there?" Danny asked, logging into Doomed.

"Danny?" I asked, using my wings from ALO to fly around the map.

"What are you doing online?" Sam asked.

"Just checking in. How's it going?" Danny asked, typing on the computer.

"We're keeping Technus in check, but he's getting stronger. It's just a matter of time before he masters the game." Tucker said.

"Wish I could help. Studying is such a drag."

"Is it, Danny?" Mr. Lancer asked, walking up to Danny who's on the computer.

"Mr. Lancer, I was just taking the…" Danny said.

"Taking up my valuable time. There are no cheat codes in school Danny, or in life. But if you don't care, why should I?"

"Here we go." Danny said, turning off the computer and walks over to his desk and flipping over the paper to start the test. "Um, in the poem the Tyger. Why does he rhyme the words I and symmetry?"

"The poem was written in the early 1800s. I'm sure there were multiple ways to pronounce that word." Mr. Lancer said.

"And it's Blake, right? William Blake?"

"Actually, yes. There were actually other poems he wrote that used the same form of rhyme scheme."

"Really? Which ones?"

Doomed…

"Not bad for a guy with no moves, huh?" Technus asked.

"Son of a bitch. He found a power plus cube!" I said, worried.

"Farewell children." Technus said, using his ghost powers to get to the next level. "I, the new improved Technus, have reached the next level."

(Open POV)

Classroom…

"Well, it's now or never." Danny said, looking at Lancer grading the exam. "And it better be now. We've got less than an hour before Technus gets to the last level."

"Ninety one." Mr. Lancer said, humming as he grades the exam.

"Ninety one? Ninety one? I aced it?" Danny asked.

"Hmm, just barely but yes. You aced it."

"Yes!" Danny said, grabbing the exam from Mr. Lancer. "I knew I could do it. Hey, I did. I did know I could do it. Thanks."

"Yes, well don't think this means I won't be keeping an eye on you Fenton."

"Don't think this means you won't have to. I aced it!" Danny said, excitedly.

"Ah the old 'I don't get to see my sister' speech gets them every time. Why don't they ever realize that's me in a dress?" Mr Lancer asked.

Fenton Works…

"Hello. Not an idiot. Seeya." Danny said, entering his home and running up the stairs.

"I should give him his phone back." Jack said, happily.

(Jared's POV)

Doomed / Danny's room…

"Yo guys, I'm here. And I aced the test." Danny said, logging into the game.

"Dude, that's great. You got a hundred?" Tucker asked.

"No, I got an A minus. A solid A minus."

"Well, we're at Level 13. Technus have five of the seven silver keys. Two more, and he becomes the king of the internet. That will also stop Sword Art Online from happening. Which will lead to a time paradox for me." I said, looking down at the ground in embarrassment.

"It'll take me forever to reach level 13." Danny said, annoyed.

"Well, Technus is using his ghost powers to speed through this game. I'm using the help of Yui. But we can't stop him."

"Ghost powers? Ugh, I'm such an idiot. Technus used his ghost powers in the game, so, why can't I right? Alright, I'm in. This had better work." Danny said, using his ghost powers to enter his computer.

Doomed…

"Woah." Danny said, appearing in the game and using his ghost powers to speed through the levels. "Excellent. I'm learning all over the place today. Sweet. My powers are the ultimate cheat code."

"Yes! Two more keys then I, the new improved Technus, shall be the hip modern ruler of the world." Technus said, laughing. "I, Technus, am totally frying your bacon."

"Well that's one thing he hasn't upgraded. His catchphrases." Tucker said, annoyed.

"You are no match for me. For I am Technus, master of…" Technus said, laughing.

"Master of long-winded introductions. Do you ever stop talking about yourself?" Danny asked.

"Do something, Danny. We're one key away from a catastrophe. Oh, and congrats on the A." Sam said, sadly.

"Thanks. He's vulnerable. Keep hammering him." Danny said, as he, Sam, and I are attacking Technus.

"Do you think he gave up?" Sam asked.

"Nope. Incoming!" I said, worried.

"Tuck, Jared, remember that mega cheat I told you about." Sam said, looking between Tucker and I.

"Time to bust it out?" Tucker asked.

"Time to bust it out." Sam said, smirking.

"Yes!" I said, excitedly. "What's the plan?"

"Hold Technus off till I get back. Here goes everything." Sam said, turning herself into a giant tiki monster.

"Tucker! Jared!" Danny said, terrified.

"The game is over. Victory is mine! Any last requests, child?" Technus asked.

"Um yeah. Could you take out the trash, Sam?" Danny asked.

"With pleasure." Sam said, happily picking up Technus.

"Not bad for a girl." Danny said.

"Ignoring that. Care to lend a hand?" Sam asked, looking at Danny.

Sam opened a hole in the world into Level 0 and placed Technus in there.

"What? Where am I?" Technus asked.

"Level zero. It's a glitch in the program. One way in, no way out." Danny said.

"Yup. And for good measure. A really good artificial intelligence. Her name is Yui. She's part of a futuristic computer system. I asked her to monitor you." I said, looking down at Technus while flying in the air.

"Now listen here, young whipper-snappers, I Technus am hip, and funky fresh, and…" Technus said, and Danny and I closed the entrance to Level 0.

"Totally out of date." Danny said.

"Good thing I upgraded my anti-virus program. Did I miss anything?" Tucker asked.

"Just the most awesome display of gamesmanship ever." Danny said.

"As awesome as it was watching Kirito and his friends beat Sword Art Online." I said, landing on the ground. "That was a momentous event for them."

"Hey guys. We've got the seven silver keys to the apocalypse. All we have to do is open the door and we win the game." Tucker said, as we placed the keys into the door.

Danny, Tucker, Sam, and I ended up dying in the game.

Amity Park…

"Huh?" Tucker asked.

"Huh?" Sam asked.

"Huh? Who on Earth could have done that?" Danny asked.

"Damn it!" I said, angrily. "We were so close!"

(Open POV)

Classroom…

"Ha ha. Once again, I have the seven silver keys and I am victorious. Me. Mr. Lancer. I've got to stop doing that." Mr. Lancer said, typing away on a desktop.

(Jared's POV)

Memory Tardis…

"Oh, that was scary. Those clockwork soldiers gave me the shivers. Still, we got away by the skin of our teeth." Jamie said, sadly.

"The story of our lives. And you've got a different face. Sorry about that." Zoe said, looking at Jamie.

"Aye. Maybe we should go back there, swap this old one for a new one."

"Not gonna happen, Jamie. You look good for your age." I said, sipping on some bubble tea.

"Ah, thank you."

"You're welcome. I managed to save the world again just now. My friends and I beat a villain in a video game. He was about to take over the world." I said, smiling.

"Just now?" Zoe asked.

"Yup."

"Well, who'd have thought, president, a fanboy, and a Highlander sharing stories. I can get used to this." Jamie said, looking between Zoe and I.

"Well, we can't stay here forever, Jamie. There's people who need us." Zoe said.

"But... suppose we went back and forgot all over again."

"Well, whatever this place is, it's restored our memories, for good. I think all we need to do, if we want to come back here, is to close our eyes and remember it."

"Well, I remember it. And this is my fourth time here." I said, drinking my bubble tea. "It's not really hard. Time travel is possible in dreams."

"We're not dreaming, Jared. Maybe we're in heaven." Jamie said, looking at me.

"I hope not. I'm a very busy woman." Zoe said, scoffing.

"Oh, so does Madame President have time for another story?"

"Go on, then. Er... Ice Warriors." Zoe said.

"Oh. I met an Ice Warrior. It was during the Cold War. Close to the North Pole." I said, laughing a lot. "What about you, Jamie?"

"Oh, how can I forget those great lumbering lizards? And, poor Victoria, screamed her lungs out when she first saw them. Nearly brought down a mountain. I wonder if she's still out there somewhere?" Jamie asked.

"Oh, I bet she is. I wonder if we all come here eventually? All the Doctor's friends?" Zoe asked.

"I hope so. I want to meet the rest of the Doctor's friends. I'm not done yet." I said, happily. "I hope Victoria had fun."

"I hope she had a nice life." Jamie said.

"I'm sure she did. I bet she thought of you, Jamie, every single day. Because there's one thing I know for sure. I will never, ever forget this again." Zoe said, looking between Jamie and I. "And Jared, I do hope you'll be able to decide if you will leave the Doctor or not."
