2274. The year everything changed. Divers discovered an ore, in the deepest pit of the Mariana trench, which scientists labeled 'Mana Ore'. Any organism that came into contact with the ore would mutate, gaining supernatural abilities, but also an aggression towards humans.
As they were doing experimentation, a machine in the laboratory crashed, making the ore unstable, and causing it to explode. Once the ore exploded, a spatial tear appeared where the ore was, and out of it came beasts, now referred to as 'Mana Beasts'. The only difference to normal mutated beasts was a ball shaped crystal, called a 'Mana Core'.
The tears, labeled 'Dungeons' appeared all over the planet, sending Mana Beasts into the wild. Humanity was pushed to the brink of extinction, until people started getting supernatural abilities as well. The abilities were named 'Syph's. These people with the syphs, 'Syphers' as we now call them, as well as the mana beasts, are ranked from
Non-rank- Average human, usually having weak abilities. The range of each of their stats would be 10-50
F-rank- The lowest rank of sypher, usually having low level enhancing abilities. The range of each of their stats would be 50-60
E-rank- The rank of syphers that is most common, usually having moderate enhancing abilities. The range of each of their stats would be 60-70
D-rank- Not as rare as C,B,A, or S ranks, although stronger than most of you will be, Usually having weak magical abilities, these people are sought after by weaker guilds. The range of each of their stats would be 70-80
C-rank- Usually having moderate magical abilities, they have important roles in weaker guilds, but tend to make their own. The range of each of their stats would be 80-90
B-rank- Very few syphers reach this rank, having strong abilities, a lot of training, or special spells. The difference between a syph and a spell is syphs are innate talents or abilities, that cannot be changed. Spells can be learned with anyone with the proper affinity, and can be bought for a large amount of money. These people will usually starts guilds, although would rather be fighting on the front lines. The range of each of their stats would be 90-110
A-rank- One in a thousand reach this rank. If you have the luck of meeting an A ranker, do not anger them. If they offer anything, whether it is harmful or not, take it. If they offer to train you, although unlikely, accept. Being trained by an A ranker will guarantee at least C rank. The range of each of their stats would be 110-250
S-rank- One in a million. You won't ever meet one, but if you do, pray. They could kill you before you blink. They will have noble statuses, but usually won't be seen in kingdom limits. Being trained by one, will get you a guaranteed B or A rank. You would be better dancing naked in the woods covered in pork than anger one. They will have all stats above 250.
Further ranks have not been recorded.
Because of this event, everybody unified, agreeing to use one language universally.
"And that is all for today's lesson. The awakening ceremony will start in 15 minutes, don't miss it. If you awaken a good syph you might catch the attention of a large guild." Mr. Loriso says, closing his textbook.
The entire class stands up and starts chattering among themselves.
A kid with white hair and bright green eyes looks down and starts to pack his textbooks into his bag.
"Hey Jackson! What shitty syph are you gonna get? Pissing lemon juice?" A fire-red haired kid says mockingly.
"Shut up Alex." Jackson retorts, not even looking up from his bag. " You are just as likely to cry rocks as you are to shoot fireballs."
"What'd you say, punk!?" Alex growls. "I'm gonna beat your ass."
He throws a fist, but Jackson leans back slightly, causing Alex to hit the table, and break a finger.
"FUCK!" Alex cries, clutching his hand. His finger is red and swelling.
"Head to the healers Alex." Mr. Loriso sighs. 'Stupid kids.'
"I'm gonna kill you." He says, eyes watering.
"Fix your hand first." Jackson retorts.
Alex leaves, fuming.
'What a nuisance.'
Jackson finishes putting the books in his bag, and stands up.
'The awakening ceremony. I'm gonna get a syph, but what?'
He leaves the classroom, and wonders.
'Pyrokinesis, Teleportation, Hydrokinesis, maybe a magic skill, I don't really care for close combat,'
'Maybe-'
Jackson bumps into something small, a girl?
Her books and papers fly off.
"I-I'm sorry." She stutters, embarrassed.
She has long black hair, about shoulder length, green eyes, and is about 5'2.
"It's fine, we should probably grab your stuff." Jackson says, nonchalant.
"A-Ah, that's true."
They grab the papers, and textbooks.
"What year are you?"
"I'm a sophomore." She replies.
'Oh, she's in the same year.' He thinks, surprised. 'Small though,'
"Same year, huh." He says. "Should probably head to Awakening."
"Oh right, Awakening." It seems she forgot.
They head to awakening, on the way Jackson asks,
"What's your name?"
"H-Huh? Oh, I'm Alicia." Alicia says, startled.
"Jackson, nice to meet you." He responds.
"We seem to have reached our destination." Jackson says.
They walk into the auditorium, and find seats.
"What syph do you think we'll awaken?" Jackson asks.
"While there are some oddities, most of it is genetic, so I'll probably get something fire based." She says. She seems to have a lot of knowledge about this.
'So I'll most likely get something control based.'
Jacksons mother can levitate small objects, and his father can move metal.
"Let's wait and see..."

An hour goes by. There are a lot of students.
Suddenly "Alicia Serato, please come up." The announcer calls.
"O-Oh that's me." Alicia stutters, and hurriedly stands up.
She gets up to the stage.
"Please put your hand on the ball, the tablet will display your skill."
There is a crystal ball, with a stone tablet on a base behind it.
Alicia puts her hand on the ball, and it glows with bright blue mana.
The tablet shines, and displays her skill.
