Chapter 40 - 2.23

Two weeks later, under the verdict of the juries, Zhang Wei was deemed guilty in the eye of the law for all charges. Both he and Yu Yan received jail time and had to pay compensation fees. Feng Mian was lenient and had agreed to let Zhang Wei have two years of probation under the condition that Zhang Wei would work with a therapist on a weekly basis to solve his childhood trauma. She wanted nothing to do with the old standing blood grudge between Zhang Wei and the original owner's family, and neither Li Xiaocheng nor Zhang Wei's resentment was for her to carry. And so she just let things go with the wind.

Feng Mian's reputation was not only cleared, but Li Xiaocheng's name had also become even more popular than he was before. People now associate her with being a generous, loving husband, as well as a good samaritan who donates his wealth to the poor and is even magnanimous to her own enemies. Some of those who once condemned her on the internet began to speak up and apologise publicly for their words. Feng Mian can't be bothered to pay attention to what the media is saying and didn't come forward to clarify. With her being so uninvolved, the news about her allegations had quickly died down and was replaced with the next big hot gossip.

Feng Mian and Hao Junlin had stayed in this world for a full three years. In the LXT company, they were known as the legendary model couple who could maintain their honeymoon phase for three years without feeling bored with each other. Well, that's what the employees say, but the two people in concern were really not in a relationship at all. Throughout these years they pandered to each other and stayed cordial housemates who only fought when it was time to decide which channel on tv they were going to watch.

After receiving penalty money from Zhang Wei, Feng Mian had bought stocks from the Moza company. And because of the family feud between the Zhang and Li family, a lot of the Zhang investors had sold their shares and Feng Mian bought them back at a fairly cheap price. And now, the largest shareholder in Moza. Zhang Wei, who went for his weekly therapy still remained traumatised after losing his company and wanted to vomit blood every time he remembers this matter.

Feng Mian made Hao Junli the president of Moza and handed the reigns over so she could develop LXT. These two companies were soon merged and months later, Feng Mian achieved the status of City's A multi-millionaire. Hao Junli and Feng Mian had been extremely busy growing the company, including going through the highs and lows of establishing a firm footing in the international market. A new company is like an infant that needs constant care and pampering, so the years have been eventfully full for both of them. They were comrades in arms that share thick and thin together so it was no surprise to the people around them that they had maintained such a good relationship despite their hectic schedules.

In the past two years, Feng Mian had also promoted Li Haoran to LXT's Vice President regardless of whether he wanted to be one or not. She had been stricter in teaching him, grooming him into a strong, competent heir that the Li family could rely on.

LXT's food processing robot had reached the final stage of testing that year. Feng Mian brought home the first prototype, showing it proudly to Hao Junli. The first prototype was only as big as a six-inch miniature gnome and shaped like a semi eclipse.

"Look, look, Hao Junli, watch what it'll do when I press this button."

A red button was pressed and the temperature inside the robot grew hot as it processed the ingredients already placed inside it. There was a sound of sizzling and crackling followed by a delicious smell oozing out from it.

Hao Junlin nodded his head, impressed. He gave her a thumbs up. "Impressive. You've done well."

Feng Mian was also proud of herself. "The prototype is a bit ugly looking. The design team will work on making it a bit smaller and attractive."

Six months later, Cook-Bot made it into the shelves of every market's home products and gadgets. It became a hit overnight, drawing big households, and single people who live alone to place an order. As the first-ever cooking robot invented, there was a surge of inquisitive hype and people posted and spread images and videos of the cute cooking robot on social media. The shelves had to be constantly restocked to meet the high demands.

Feng Mian's mission was completed three months after Cook-Bot's release.

[SYSTEM PROMPT: Side mission: Make me a billionaire completed. Task completion rate - 100%.

Reward: 100 000 experience points.

Congratulations and thank you for your efforts. Host may leave the world anytime you wish.]

System 555: "Congratulations Xiao Mian, it's your first completed mission!"

Feng Mian went silent for a while. "What happens to the original's bodies after we leave?" she asked.

System 555: "There is no soul inside, so the bodies won't hold out for long. After a month or so after you leave, you and Hao Junli will die of natural deaths."

She thought so.

Feng Mian walked briskly to the study on the upper floor where Hao Junlin occupied. When she notified him about their mission completion, Hao Junlin's expression was neither sad nor happy. But his mood was a bit sullen and complex.

He stared long and deeply at her, or precisely the clear sets of caramel eyes that had remained unchanged. Her eyes were iridescent, and sometimes would be darker or lighter coloured, depending on how the lights hit them. Even when they first met, the quality that he found most drawn to was those striking eyes.

Feng Mian, seeing that Hao Junli had not spoken and was a bit absentminded, called out, "Hao Junli?"

Hao Junli blinked once. "Hmm?"

"Are you okay? Did you hear what I said?"

"I heard you. There's a place that I wanted to go to before we leave," he said. For some reason, Feng Mian heard the faint hints of morrow in his words.
