Marie sat on a fancy medium wooden bed that was right beside another same type meant for Gabe. For a minute she got lost in how perfectly fit Gabe's broad chest looked. She stared at him as he took off his shirt and took in a gulp.
"You know I still don't understand why you didn't get us separate rooms" she said
"Well, this is one of the most expensive rooms" he replied as he placed a small white towel over his neck
"I couldn't afford separate rooms. And this one is fancy enough. It's big and has a bath tub and a mini living room. I think it's fair enough. You know I wasn't even going to settle for this, I wanted a cheap one, but I didn't understand the language that was written and only picked the room based on how the image looked" he added
"Oh, I see, that's fine then. But how did you manage to get the money you used for any of this" she asked.
"I had my wallet with me when we…you know, disappeared. So while you were busy eating recklessly at a restaurant, I spoke with someone who took me to a place where they change currency" he said as he walked to the bathroom
"About the food, it was supposed to be delivered before we got here, I don't know what happened. So maybe you could place a call through?" he said.
"Sure" she replied
Gabe stepped out of the bathroom to see that Marie was nowhere to be found. He scoffed and shook his head thinking she had eloped again like she did the last time. Just then he remembered he hadn't checked the balcony. He thought the chances of her being there was really low but decided to give it a try.
"Marie" he said as soon as he saw her standing by the railings. The cool breeze gently covered his face making him let out a deep sigh
"Hey" she replied. The expression on her face looked really sad. Like she had something on her mind or was scared of something
"What's wrong?" he asked
She let out a sigh and turned over, now resting her back on the railings "Nothing, I just.. I don't know, I'm just scared, I mean, we don't even know what's happening to us, we don't know what's ahead of us. We don't know why those people are chasing us or who the good guys or bad guys are. None of this makes sense Gabe" she scoffed as a tear rolled down her face
"Oh,well…up until this happened my life still didn't make any sense either. I just lived because I survived and I survived because I wanted to live. I didn't want to starve so I took in jobs, any kind, no matter how strenuous it was, and unlike other kids who had a family or a loved one who they were living for, I lived because I don't know.. Maybe someday I would find that love, that family, but so far I haven't, and I feel like whatever is going on with us is going to be the highlight of our lives. I mean, now I have a solid reason to live, to find out whatever this power is, maybe it has something to do with where I come from or maybe it will somehow take me to my relatives or I don't know. But I know it's going to be good, very good. And I don't know about you Marie but I got you, and we're doing this together" he smiled
"I got you too Gabe, and yes we are doing this together that's why you have to tell me all I need to know" she replied.
"Like what exactly?" he asked
"What you are doing with those people. Why did they send you after me? What do they really do?" she answered
"Oh, you have nothing to worry about Marie. I'm on your side. I told you I did strenuous menial jobs yeah? So that's basically how I survived until few days ago when I got a call. I wasn't told anything about the company or who the supposed boss is. I was just asked to go after certain men and get certain information from them and I get paid as high as 2000 dollars. I was thrilled by how much money I'd get so I didn't bother asking for details about them. I just get them the information they need and get paid." He said
"Soo, the other day, when you were chasing after that old man, you wanted to get an info?" she asked
"Yeah" he nodded
"So what kind of info exactly?" she asked
"Names, and some weird numbers on something like a placard and right after I send the pictures to them I am asked to destroy them"
"Oh. That seems very shady" she sighed
"Yeah. I think whatever they are after has something to do with our powers" he said
"Do you think they are on our side?" she asked
"After seeing them tie you up and leave you unconscious in a backseat, I don't think they are on our side Marie" he replied. "And why isn't the food here yet? Didn't you put the call through?"
"Yeah, I kinda forgot, let me go call" she replied
"Never mind" he said as he walked over to the Landline
After few minutes the meal arrived and they both had dinner and watched a movie that was showing on the tv.
