In night, 15th year old Qin Yuze was watching television in her home.
After a while, advertisements were shown on the television. So, QinYuze switched to another channel.
There was a breaking news on air: Five cars had collided on the highway from S City to Z City.
Qin Yuze had initially wanted to change the channel but right then, she suddenly saw a white Koenigsegg Agera R among the cars that had collided.
The scene on the television was not clear and Qin Yuze couldn't see the number plate of the Koenigsegg Agera R.
Suddenly, Qin Yuze seemed to have heard the sound of the sky falling.
Her mother Qin Liuyun was the only one in all of City Z who drove a white Koenigsegg Agera R.
Highway, car accident, five-car collision, Koenigsegg Agera R…
These few phrases were jumbled together and they crept into Qin Yuze mind all of a sudden.
Qin Yuze didn't know why but her mind went blank and tears quickly filled her eyes.
"mum".
Qin Yuze murmured her mother name as her hand trembled uncontrollably. She was barely able to take out her mobile phone to dial her mother number.
Her mother had just sent her a message saying she would be home in half an hour.
"Sorry, the number you have called is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
From the other end of the phone came the sound of the voicemail greeting. It came like a sharp knife, stabbing QinYuze heart quickly and accurately. Just one stab and she bled.
Qin Yuze felt as if she had been struck by the lightning. Her body weakened and she staggered backward.
Thud! Qin Yuze mobile phone fell to the ground.
She picked up the phone and forced herself to stand steadily.
She heard the female newsreader broadcasting the news at a slow speed.
"The cause of the accident is under investigation. At the moment, two people have been killed and the others have experienced different injuries. All who are injured have been transferred to The City Hospital of Z City for treatment."
The accident had killed two people…
Could it be her mother…
The crimson color of QinYuze cheeks faded slowly away and great fear arose in her heart.
Qin Yuze felt as if she had been beaten by someone and the unbearable pain attacked her body causing her to tremble non-stop.
Qin Yuze eyes were full of tears. She shook her head and quickly threw the negative thoughts out of her mind. She then shifted her attention to the last sentence the newsreader said.
All who were injured had been transferred to The City Hospital of S City…
Qin Yuze dashed out of the house without bothering to switch off the television and to change out of her pajamas.
At City Hospital...
It was now nine at night but there were still many people in The City Hospital of Z City.
When the people saw QinYuze messy hair and drenched look, they widened their eyes in shock.
Qin Yuze had no time to bother about how people cast strange looks at her. She stopped a nurse in uniform and asked her with great anxiety.
"Excuse me, do you know where the injured people involved in the five-car collision on the highway between S City and Z City are right now?"
The nurse darted a glance at QinYuze and there was sympathy in her eyes.
"They're on the fifth floor of the emergency building."
QinYuze nodded and dashed toward the emergency building of the hospital without even saying thank you.
The number beside the elevator showed it was on the tenth floor. The anxious Qin Yuze couldn't wait for the elevator to come down. She ran directly to the staircase beside the elevator and with all her might, she dashed up the stairs.
Qin Yuze had never felt that the stairs were so tortuous and difficult to climb. She panted while she dashed upward, always feeling the stairs ahead were endless and she was unable to reach her destination.
When she saw the sign of the fifth floor, Qin Yuze eyes widened. She gasped for air and ran inside.
Qin Yuze saw a stretcher passing in front of her. She didn't know if this was one of the victims of the accident. The gauze on the stretcher looked like it was stained by blood.
The smell of disinfectant in the air was thick but it couldn't remove the smell of the blood.
Qin Yuze felt her heart being seized tightly in someone's palm. She felt suffocated, making her feel like collapsing.
Although it was a distance away, just by looking at the person's exposed hand, she knew that it was not her mom.
'It's not mum. She'll be fine. Don't scare yourself…' She thought.
Qin Yuze forced herself to suppress her fear. She ran forward quickly and grabbed another nurse's hand. The most urgent question was spat like bullets. "Nurse, I'm looking for the injured in the car accident on the highway. She's Mrs. Qin Liuyun in her late thirty's."
"Mrs. Qin?"
The nurse examined Qin Yuze and saw her unkempt look. Great sympathy arose in her heart.
This little girl had run out of her house without changing out of her pyjamas. How anxious could she be?
The nurse covered Su Wan's palm with the back of her hand, trying to give her some warmth.
"Are you her family? Please be prepared. The patient is now in the emergency room. She was hit hard on her head by the steering wheel and her condition is not good."
Qin Yuze head exploded with a bang, as if someone had set off a firecracker!
Qin Yuze broke away from the nurse's hand and staggered backward.
The nurse said that her mum head had been hit hard and her condition was not good. She wanted her to be prepared…
Panic and fear which were hard to contain hit Qin Yuze down suddenly!
The nurse sighed and just then, she heard her colleague calling her. So, she didn't have time to console little Qin Yuze and ran to the emergency room.
Seeing the door of the emergency room closed, her tears ran down like a broken string of beads, blurring Qin Yuze vision that instant.
Little QinYuze felt a burning pain. Her heart felt like a heavy load which she couldn't bear, wanting her to faint right there.
