Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Hunt

Shekal was worried but after the duel he was reassured.

Denimi preparing for the hunt wore various fur that Shekal gathered since having no fur put Denimi in a disadvantage; some of the fur was from boars and some were from other wolves. Without fur Denimi was exposed to the harshness of the cold and wouldn't be able to keep up with the wolves.

Now it's time for them to depart. 10 wolves, each looking relatively strong, gathered together to go on the hunt. Their goal was at least 15 wild boars.

Departing into the forest Denimi waved to Shekal saying "I'll be back!"

After disappearing into the forest Denimi realized that this place wasn't like any other, it was eerie, cool, thick and dark even though it was only the afternoon. It was colder than in the cave.

After a few minutes of wandering in the dark and eerie forest we still couldn't find a boar.

One of the wolves pointed out that it's taking a lot longer than the last time they hunted.

After an hour of searching they finally found a lone boar. They surrounded the boar and attacked it together. It was a quick kill because there was only one lone boar. The wolves said that they usually stick beside other boars. They told me to carry the boar because I didn't help in killing it.

It was getting darker but we still couldn't find another boar, we were about to head back but I saw another boar, I attacked it before the others could notice so that I can take the kill. The others said that I shouldn't stray off too much alone but they congratulated me for my very first catch.

We returned home with only 2 boars. The other wolves were quite disappointed but they already planned another hunt for tomorrow.

Shekal asked me if I wanted to join the hunt tomorrow afternoon, I nodded yes.

At night I woke up to pee but found Shekal talking to the other wolves. They were reporting what had happened to Shekal, he looked worried. He saw me and told me to go back to sleep.

The next morning the wolves gathered again to go hunting, today we used a different route. They said this route was more dangerous, but had a lot more boars.

Unlike yesterday, we found boars only 2 minutes in but there were a lot. There were 6 boars there. We used the same tactic as yesterday we surrounded them and made it so they couldn't escape, we each took one on I took out my boar almost instantly, but the others were struggling a bit so I asked if they needed help they said yes so I helped them stop the boars so they could kill them. Now all we needed was 7 more, we were gonna head a bit more into the forest so they sent one of the wolves to carry the boars back home.

After a few minutes of roaming we found a suspicious bald spot in the forest where we found 3 boars. We planned to attack them sneakily. The plan was successful and they sent another one of the wolves to bring back the boars. There's only 9 of us left, we were gonna head bit more forward but the wolves smelled burning trees from one area of the forest so we decided to retreat.

We headed back home and they told me they were gonna hunt for the last ones tomorrow and I said I would join them. They reported to Shekal again last night this time he looked even more worried, he looked traumatized

Shekal told me to stay home this time he ordered me to stay so I stayed home.

The wolves went on the hunt again because if we didn't we would run out of food during winter which was approaching. After a few hours the wolves returned but only 5 were the same back.

They explained everything to Shekal he looked angry. Shekal gathered all the wolves for a meeting and then he announced "A dragon appeared.". Everyone had a shocked look on their face, I don't know what a dragon is. Later that night I asked Shekal what a dragon is, he said dragon's are large creatures with giant wings with hard but thin scales and could breathe fire through their mouth. He explained that every once in a while a dragon appears in the area although its rare its not impossible. He said that when a dragon goes on a rampage chaos incurs and areas become barren. Dragon's usually do this if there child dies or their in a bad mood.

He told me his prior experiences with dragons, he told me that before he arrived here he lived at a place that was attacked by one he wanted revenge but knew he couldn't handle a dragon. He said that he was planning to leave this area by tomorrow but he knew that there were wolves in our pack that were pregnant and were unable to even walk properly so he's trying to find a way to bring them along with the pack.

Shekal was pessimistic about it but after a few hours of thinking he found a way. He was gonna carry and lead them all to the new area. I asked for help but he said I should take care of myself.

The next day came and all the wolves were ready. All the ones that could walk headed straight to the new settlement while Shekal stayed to lead the others there. After we arrived there Shekal we set up camp and waited for the others. Shekal had already brought half of them without the sun setting.

Shekal had brought everyone except for one last.

Everyone was worried he wouldn't be able to return before sunrise.

And then we heard a roar that was so loud the ground and trees started shaking and leaves started flying off into the distance. One of the wolves shouted "QUICKLY GET INTO THE CAVE!". While everyone was running to the cave there was another roar. It was a lot louder than the other one. Everyone froze when hearing it, it felt like my organs were getting ruptured. Everyone was able to reach the cave, we were able to go to the deeper part of the cave where we couldn't hear the roars anymore.

Everyone was scared; they all huddled in a corner inside the cave. I was still worried about Shekal... He wasn't able to reach here on time. Maybe he found another cave to stay in? He couldn't die right? That's impossible. He can't die, yeah he won't die... Please Shekal please... Don't... Die...

The next day when we looked outside the dragon was already gone, but the whole forest was destroyed, trees were burnt, mountains collapsed and lakes were gone...

Some of them went to look for Shekal and the other wolf, I went with the wolves searching for Shekal. We went to our old cave but no one was there, we searched the area for other caves and places to hide. We couldn't find him, the others gave up but I still went searching. He wasn't at the place where I would hide... He isn't here... I couldn't find him...

If only he let me come with him, I could have made him reach here faster. If only that dragon didn't appear.. What if I helped him... Why did I listen to his commands... What if I didn't listen to him, and instead helped him...

I shouldn't stay here because it's getting dark.

After this all the wolves started looking for a new place to stay at, since this forest was already barren. Our source of water and food had already been cut off. So we headed south because the south was the so-called promised land that no one reached. The reason the wolves were staying here was because they wanted to reach there but they were already tired when they reached here so this is where they settled.

While heading south we passed by other wolves that were hit by the dragon, the current leader of the pack was Shekal's brother. He asked them if they wanted to join us and they said yes. We traveled over mountains and rivers in a day. It was turning night and the other wolves were tired so we went to a nearby cave to stay temporarily.

I couldn't sleep that night so I went searching for a source of water. I found some berry bushes that were quite sweet. I stayed at the top of the mountain all night long to keep guard.

The next day we encountered some goblins. I asked what they were. They said that goblins were small human-like creatures that would steal and ravage humans. The goblins were wary of me and our leader. Our leader wanted them to join because they had experienced the same thing as us.
