If we die, is it the end of everything or the end of our life here on earth?
I grow up in a family of Christian. We believe that only our physical body died but our souls still live eternally.
Before we went back to our hotel room uncle Georgio inform us of tomorrow's burial program and here is a list of the activities that sound a little bit elaborate to me: At ten in the morning. We will have a small undertaking commemorating my aunt's achievement in life. Her husband and sibling will say some short eulogy. Then we will have a short walk to the private cemetery. After burying my aunt we will proceed to their home for a small get-together buffet dinner.
Sunday came and the whole clan is here. We started with a prayer by uncle Georgio. One by one he enumerated his wife's achievement and tears came out from his eyes when he said this last part of his speech " and for me, my wife's biggest accomplishment in her existence is being the most loving person in my life and a mother to our family". Then he wipes his eyes and went back to his seat.
Next, it's aunt Marlyn. She talks about growing up with my aunt as the middle child and how good aunt Marly is as the eldest sister. I may sound selfish but my second aunt's speech is boring. I almost fall asleep. She is simply reading from her notes. Finally, her turn ended.
Next is uncle Marty. His talk is about growing up as the only male in the family. He mentioned one of their funny moment where my aunt Marly dress him as a girl and pretend they are all sisters and take their photos. He even brought a copy of the picture that was enlarged. Uncle Marty's speech with pictures is quite interesting.
Now it's my mom's turn. My mom's speech is short but full of love. She told us, My eldest sister is my mom. I did not see our mother because she died after my birth but eldest sister Marly provided me with the motherly love that I need. when I was small I even call her mama. I love her and miss her and I will be forever thankful to her for being my mom and my sister. Then my mom sobs her heart out. All eyes follow my mom as she sits on the chair. Then uncle Georgio stand up to end the eulogy when a lanky good looking man in his thirties suddenly grabs the microphone and said sorry to disrupt but I am the youngest brother of the Mendez family. My name is Martin Mendez!
What! my mom is not the youngest? I thought this kind of drama only happens in the movie but I am glad he did not say he is the other man like in the films. The mistress suddenly appears at the funeral to create a commotion. Oh, I forgot to mention. Mendez is the family name of my mom, aunt Marly, aunt Marlyn, and uncle Marty.
Then I heard him say. I know they did not think of me as a brother because my mother is the second wife but we have one father. When our dad died I was in college and he did not leave any money for me so I decided to stop and look for work. Eldest half-sister Marly saw me one day lining up to get a work application and when we converse. She found out about my situation. She told me that I should finish college first before looking for a job since I have only one semester left. She offered to help me financially to honor dad. I still work part-time but because of her I finished early and I even get a promotion from the company when I got my qualification. Then he returns the microphone to uncle Georgio.
Uncle Georgio declares openly that it's time to bury aunt Marly.
