The class seemed to kick off very quickly with one of the first events in the common age of magic, the seven years war between the Oik, Hulju and the mages that found refuge in the plane of Mage Haven. The events that happened in those seven years explained why some of the older buildings of Mage Haven like the headmaster's tower seemed to be fortified buildings more so than regular buildings. Uri took notes and listened and everything seemed like what he had read in the history books before but when Ms. Rosewood mentioned something about the Oik and Hulju not being able to use magic, he felt an urge to raise his hand, "The Oik and Hulju will be the two main groups that will be covered in next week's lesson as they play a big role in the events of the seven years war as they used weapons and not, oh, I apologize, yes, you have a question? Please remind me of your name."
"Uri, Uri Geld."
"Go ahead," She had the same smile as when she started the lesson, "What is it?"
"The Oik used magic," Everyone turned to look at him and he noticed the teacher squinting at him, "They weren't magic-less."
"Well, as far as historical evidence states, they don't have any magic and have no records of even having magic," She responded coldly, losing her smile, "Mr. Geld, please stay back once this class is over, I will have a word with you," There was a few chatters and noises about him being held back. He didn't understand what was wrong, he was sure that what he was saying was true, why did she just tell the class a lie? He went back to being silent for the rest of the class, trying to be forgotten by the rest of his classmates.
In the end, the first class was nothing but a resume of what they were going to cover in the first year of history of magic with nothing but the seven year war and the three groups that participated in that war. Everyone got up as Uri sat at his desk, waiting as Ms. Rosewood had asked him to. She only spoke up once everyone was gone, "I will need you to be honest with me as I do not know if you are trying to scare your classmates or you have actual knowledge to share," She walked up from the desk and stood next to his, "Now, what made you say that the Oik use magic?"
"I have seen it before."
"You saw it, alright," She looked at him as if trying to see if he was lying or crazy, "Let's get this clear, are you here from a temporal paradox? Are you as old as the librarian? Have you somehow found recordings that historians have not ever found?" He shook his head, "Alright, what year is it?"
"102 CCM."
"Good, now, why did you claim that the Oik have magic?"
"I have seen it before, I heard them talking about it," Uri claimed, making Helena Rosewood sit down on a desk and look at him confused, "I guess you don't know much about me."
"I really do not, Headmaster Solven had told me about a student being of a particular origin but not what it was."
"My family is Oik," The comment left Ms. Rosewood simply blinking blankly at him, "I was old enough to know that, I was taken from my family to not let me develop as another brainwashed mage hunter."
"You are what?"
"I am from an Oik family."
"I don't think this is my level of expertise, however, I will gladly hand this off to Headmaster Solven, I was unaware of this, but whatever you know, please keep it to yourself, your classmates are not versed with that type of knowledge or experience," She explained as she lead him out of the classroom, "Please head to your next class, iI will communicate this incident with the headmaster."
"Alright," She went back to smiling as he walked out of the building and an automaton walked towards him.
"Mr. Geld, please follow me to your next class, it will begin shortly."
After the small incident of the Oik claim that happened on the first day in the first class, things seemed to continue normally and without a hitch. Practical classes were simply applying the theory learned in the theory classes and were very uneventful as the spells that life students had in the first year were limited to mostly protection or helping while the only offensive spell that they would learn would be summoning spells to create minor creatures. The first spell they learned was Minor Vigor which was nothing but a slight boost to the caster's status either helping from physical pain or the lack of stamina, nothing really crazy aside from Uri actually using magic for the first time. Unlike the second year students and above, they were only using their hands to cast their spells, no wands or items to act as wands either.
A few weeks went by and people seemed to have forgotten about his Oik magic comment in the first class and went about as normal in their days. He was walking back to the life magic dorms alone after the evening meal, despite not having very large effects, casting the spells seemed to have an effect on his physical condition and wore him out quickly as he wanted to perfect the small spells that he learned. He stopped when someone shouted his name, "Stop right there, jackass," He turned and saw three students. Their uniforms were red, black and purple, a fire, death and storm student, but their uniform was all he could recognize, "You are the idiot who thinks Oiks can use magic and you went ahead and tried to scare the others in your class," He looked at them confused as they surrounded him, "What? Not going to say anything? You scare my little sister and then have nothing to say about it?" He got shoved back by the fire student before one of the others pushed him back up, "Cat caught your tongue? Break him," He gestured with his head to the death student. A black symbol formed in front of the death student that used a small finger claw as a wand.
"Harm," A sharp pain rushed through Uri's body and he spat up blood before falling back before the third student pushed him back up.
"You... won't..."
"I am not going to do what?" The fire student put his arm up as if to punch him before someone called them out.
"What are you idiots doing?" The four of them looked at where the voice was coming from and Uri spotted a red and black uniform, a black strap and the neck and head of a guitar. His eyes moved up and spotted the crimson red hair, it was Kelly Solven.
"Why the hell does that matter to you? Fuck off, headmaster's daughter," The fire student spat at the ground and turned back to Uri, "None of your business," Uri heard a note come off of her guitar. The three students turned back to her as a red symbol was forming in front of her, "You can't use magic on other students outside of practice areas."
"And Yegor didn't just use harm on him."
"What proof do you have?"
"Uri's word and mine," She replied as the spell continued to form as she played another note, "The rules state that defending yourself allows you to use magic outside of the usual conditions."
"We aren't doing anything to you, dumbass," The storm student commented, "Then let this life mage defend himself."
"I extend myself to Uri as well as he would not be able to stop a pair of third years and a fourth year with the limited spells he knows from barely two weeks of time in the school, he doesn't even have a wand yet," The spell was still forming in front of her, "Unless you want me to scorch you, you will stop right now."
"Yegor, shatter it," His finger claw began writing out a black rune and suddenly a word appeared in Uri's mind, Teltovig. It was as if something was telling what to do at that moment, was it a spell? Kelly didn't back down despite having a fourth year death student beginning to cast a spell that would completely stop her attempt at defending him.
"Teltovig," Uri mumbled and the black spell shattered in the air. All the students looked at Yegor as he looked at his finger claw.
"What the fuck, man? Isn't shatter a simple spell? How did you fuck that up?"
"I don't know, I was casting it, I have used this hundreds of times," Yegor began writing it once more and Uri tried his luck once more. The fire student, David, sighed.
"Teltovig," The spell broke once more. Yegor looked at his wand blankly.
"Performance issues happen all the time, Yegor, one in three," Kelly joked as the three of them scurried off as her spell sat completed in front of her. Uri fell to one knee and coughed up blood onto the floor, the red spell broke and she slung her guitar back before hurrying to his side, "You alright, Uri?"
"Yeah, I am fine," He could feel his heart pounding in his chest and his head spinning. He tried to get up and then stumbled back and fell backwards. Kelly rolled her eyes and moved next to him.
"No you aren't," She looked around and saw an automaton near them, "Cogsworth, come here," The automaton turned and walked towards them as Kelly's hand pushed Uri down as he tried to get up, "Get someone to help us, Uri was attacked."
"Right away," The robot quickly began walking towards the main square of the academy.
"What did you even do, Uri?" She sat next to him as he lay on the ground, his head throbbing and his body shaking in pain. The fire student sat and watched him mutter words to himself, "What are you doing?" A small rune began appearing in front of his chest, "Stop casting spells, you are hurt, it will hurt you more."
"Minor vigor," The spell popped without anything happening.
"Stop," He looked at her and nodded, "Don't be an idiot," They sat silently before hearing footsteps hurrying towards them and the noise of a staff tapping the ground, "Who is there?" She called out to the people behind the corner from them.
"Kelly, what happened?" It was the headmaster, "What happened to you?" He moved next to him as both Ms. Hollow and Ms. Rosewood were with him, "Helena, do you mind helping us?" A spell was quickly written out in front of the head of the life division.
"Angel's Grace," The pain slowly vanished and his heart slowed down, "The pain should go away now," The four people stood around Uri as he slowly sat up and seemed to come to.
"What happened?" Uri shrugged, "No one ends up in that state with nothing happening, someone had to do this to you."
"I don't know," He shrugged and Kelly shrugged as well.
"I just got here and found him like this," The headmaster nodded and his daughter helped Uri to his feet. He felt fine but he knew something was wrong, what were the spells he cast to break David's spells?
"I will help him head back to the dorms," Ms. Rosewood spoke, "I can handle this, Headmaster Solven and Ms. Hollow."
"I will help you," Kelly volunteered and walked next to Uri before anyone could oppose her decision.
"I will come talk with you tomorrow, Uri," Headmaster Solven remarked as he began leaving, "Rest well."
"Thank you," Uri spoke weakly as he walked with the two women back to the life dorms. His vision went slightly blurry as they got near the dorms and he passed out onto Kelly. Nothing of what happened after that was in his memory when he woke up. He sat up as the sun hit his face, "What time is it?" He checked his clock and saw that it was already midday, "I am late," He got up and headed to the door and, once it was open, he saw one of the fifth year students sitting next to his door.
