Chapter 5 - The System

"Finally"

After another 30 minutes of careful walking inside the dense, ancient-looking forest. It seemed that the roars slowly started to die down. Noah deducted that this must be because there was something or someone close to him that the mysterious animals did not dare to approach.

And indeed, not long after this deduction, Noah spotted what was seemed to be a giant stone wall. Noah didn't know the true length of the stone wall as he could only see the top of it sticking out of the forest. He wanted to climb a tree to get a better view, but alas, he was too tired.

The forest was also extremely dark at this point. It was dark to the point where Noah could only see the walls thanks to the moving lights on top of it that are now acted as his guiding lights. He continued walking towards these lights, hoping that whatever moved them on the castle walls was of human origin.

****************************

Noah barely stood on his legs when he successfully reached the wall that was way farther away than it seemed to be. Only now could he understand this stone wall's true height and length that stretched towards the unknown in both directions. This stone wall was not only enormous, but it was in good condition too.

Perhaps, modern humans will never have the chance to witness an old yet still perfectly crafted wall like this. Noah suddenly felt adventurous when he thought about what other new things will he witness in this new, unknown world.

Noah currently stood on the edge of the forest. He was still inside and made sure that no one saw him. First, he carefully peeped out from behind the trees and checked the lights that danced around on top of the stone wall. He was surprised to see that these lights were actually torches. They were held by humans clad in medieval iron armor.

Each of these "knights" had a sword fastened to their waist. Noah focused on one of them, and suddenly an unfamiliar status window popped up.

[HP: ???/???]

[Name: Livias Ortnand]

[Race: Human]

[Title: Soldier of the Vayra Empire, ???, ???]

[Rank: ???]

At first, Noah was startled by the sudden notification sound. He didn't know if he was the only one who could hear it or not. Therefore he quickly jumped behind the tree and looked around to make sure that no one spotted him. Then, finally, Noah glanced at the status window.

He learned many things just by looking at it once. Firstly, the status window only shows the basic and unnecessary information you can find by looking at the person in question or talking to them. Secondly, the question marks indicate that there is additional information that is probably too important to be revealed.

These can be titles, ranks, HP based on the current status window before Noah. Lastly, and most importantly, the system is probably not a gift that is only exclusive to Noah. He deducted this based on what Pandora said to him and that he can see information about other living beings.

When Noah noticed the first system notification, he didn't know what to think. Thus, he needed someone to test it on since what Pandora said to him about not receiving any gifts based on his past life could be a lie after all. Therefore he decided to see if others have a rank just like him.

And indeed, others also have a rank, and most of their information is hidden. So Noah suspected that the system is just a convenient thing that everyone has rather than a gift in this world. But, on the other hand, it's probably part of their everyday life.

Noah was 80% sure that this was the case, but for the remaining 20%, he needed to talk to someone and see if they will know his name without him mentioning it to them. Sadly, this plan was not flawless. In fact, he will probably not find out that 20% if they don't speak the same language, but Noah had no choice as always ever since he arrived on this world.

He could either walk up to them and hope that they will let him in even as a prisoner, or he can sleep outside. In that case, he will most certainly starve to death or be killed by a wild animal.

Noah took a deep breath and walked out of the darkness of the ancient forest. The wall guards spotted him in that instant, and many of them aimed their longbows at him. However, Noah knew that this treatment was not unnecessary caution. He suspected that this world has many strong humans that are capable of taking on such a line-up.

He already heard the terrifying roars of some of the beasts that resided in the forest and instinctively knew that those roars belonged to unimaginable predators. And there was the fact that magic was probably an existing thing in this world. There was also a strength order between these humans.

Noah stood still in one place and waited for someone to call out to him. In the next moment, a man stepped out from behind the line of archers. There was no helmet on his head. His skin was tanned, and he had a serious facial expression. His iron armor was more detailed than that of a simple wall guard.

Noah only needed one glance to understand that this man was the boss of these guards. The man stepped forward and shouted at Noah surprisingly loudly.

"The human named Noah Reiner, stay still and state your business. You can refuse, but in that case, we will treat you as a spy. We will also interrogate you depending on your answer!"

Success, this man not only called him out in the same language, but he even knew his name. This meant that the system was 100% not a gift for Noah. Now, he only needed to get inside the walls and survive.

Noah was about to give a reply when a sudden wave of dizziness knocked him out of balance. His body reached the limit!
