"Useless brother!"
"I'm ashamed of calling you my brother!"
"Why did I even give birth to you?!"
Ax'l sighs as he goes out the door of their house. It was his eighteenth birthday. Unlike other kids who are greeted by their parents with a happy birthday and hugs, he was greeted by the opposite.
Hateful comments like that are normal for him.
Eighteen years of nonstop hateful comments and bullying made him used to it.
Ax'l sighs once more as he walks towards the convenience store to buy noodles. Yes, that's how he was going to celebrate his birthday. A noodle and himself.
When he finally managed to get his favorite noodle, he walked towards the park, his favorite place.
Ax'l sits down at the bench where he usually spends his time as he watches the kids playing around with each other, full of love and attention from their parents.
Ax'l smiled sadly at the scene in front of him. He always wanted to know what it felt to be loved by your parents and to play with your siblings.
While he was busy eating his noodles, an old man wearing worn-out and filthy clothes sat beside him.
He looked hungry and was shivering, given that it was already November so the air was particularly chilly.
Ax'l, despite growing up in an environment filled with hatred, remained pure and kind hearted.
He looks at the half empty cup of noodles in his hands before he offers it to the old man.
"Here. You can have this." Ax'l offers. He scratches the back of his head while sheepishly smiling at the old man, "…though it's already half empty but I hope it can fill your hungry stomach."
The old man cheerfully took the cup of noodles before he bowed and thanked Ax'l who just offered him a small smile.
There was a comfortable silence that filled the both of them as Ax'l continued watching the kids play in front while the old man can be heard slurping the free noodles he just got.
Seconds later, the old man threw away the cup of noodles and turned to Ax'l.
"Thank you again, young man."
"No problem." Ax'l replies. He goes back to watching the kids play as he ignores the old man who was now relaxing by his side.
Ax'l remained until the park was about to close, as well as the old man.
He stands up and glances at the old man who was now sleeping on top of the bench, his frail arms trying to hug his small body as he sivers from the cold.
Ax'l bites his lip as he weighs the situation. The coat he was wearing was the only coat he owns which he was able to buy after five years of saving his salary from being a grocery boy.
He sighs as he takes it off and goes to put it on top of the old man who was now more relaxed because of the warmth the coat was giving him.
Ax'l smiles softly as he prays to whoever is listening to him to keep the old man safe.
While he was walking away, he thought he heard the old man say something like a "happy birthday" but when he turned around, the man was still sleeping.
Ax'l shakes his head as he walks back towards his house, readying himself with an onslaught of, "I hate you" and "Just die already, Ax'l." he would get from his siblings and his parents.
The boy asked himself many times already, if his family hated them that much, why haven't they killed him yet? He sighs again for the nth time before he puts his arms around himself to try warming himself up because of the cold November breeze.
Ax'l hopes that one day, he will be able to get his answers.
