The second year tournament wasn't much more challenging then the first years, their skills were more advanced but ultimately most of the students were still younger then Darren. He had completed all of his general education back in Canada so he was older then most other students here, he was only at this academy because..... Why did he come here he thought to himself, he's taking general education classes despite the only one being actually useful to him was learning how to speak Russian. Right, this academy was renowned for its combat training, he was to be a pilot back in Canada, Dr. Vasaliev asked him to participate in this program to help increase his cognitive thinking and reflexes. Either way Akira was the only one he had encountered as of yet that had given him somewhat of a challenge, Jon had beaten him in hand to hand training in the past however that was more due to his strength and not actual skill. They were coming up on their final match and none of them had had a particularly hard time here, even Anya had managed to win a few one on one fights against these students.
The final round was against the students that had been slated to take the student council positions if it weren't for the development of the elite class, they appeared to be holding quite the grudge over it as well. The arena had changed slightly compared to the previous rounds, the older students requested a single building fight, if they were able to defeat the student council and take control of the building security they win. On the other hand if they failed in the allotted time period or were taken out before they could achieve their goal they would lose, "You're quite clearly handicapping yourself here" Darren said. "Shut up, quit acting like such a professional, we've been training longer then you and we'll put you in your place here and now" the other team leader responded, "Alright" Darren said skeptically.
Darren had trained in this building before, it was the one with the underground parking where the opposing team would be starting, the security office was in a fairly defensible position, "Let us handle it this time" Ito said. Anya shook her head in agreement "We can't constantly be relying on you, give us a chance to show what we've learned as well" she said confidently, Darren wasn't about to argue the girls' moods had finally improved lately. He agreed to hang out in the security office, "Even if they reach the office don't interfere" Anya said, "We'll handle all of it" "What do you want me to do then? spin around in an office chair like an idiot?" Darren asked.
Anya headed to the elevator, she had learned from Darren this was on of the easiest access points to reach a level undetected, she rigged up her tesla grid, it wasn't powerful enough to sever the wires but anyone holding on to one would sure get a surprise. After rigging the trap she readjusted all the camera angles and went back to the security office to redirect the feed to her wrist computer.
Ito similarly prepared, she rigged several dummy traps with her usual ones nearby, she would be the first line of defense, Anya was on a higher level, after she felt satisfied she checked her combat blades. Her communicator crackled to life, "They just passed into the main parking level, they'll be reaching the stairs and elevator in a moment" Anya said, "Understood" Ito replied, she moved over to the staircase to listen for any noise.
Darren heard a noise and went to the window, a few levels down he saw someone scaling the side of the building, he wondered if the girls had accounted for that, they wanted to do this alone though so he had no intention of warning them.
Ito heard a small blast as one of her dummy traps had been triggered, she assumed they disarmed it as no one would miss such an obvious placement, the stairwell filled with a heavy grey smoke, the downside to this trap would be she couldn't see their approach. A second detonation sounded shortly after blowing the smoke up and to the sides, "Clever solution" she whispered to herself, the smoke was intended to hid other easily detected trip wire traps. Ito punched some information into her helmet, the visor changed everything to greyscale showing heat signatures, she could see the live wiring in the building and just below two forms moving carefully up. She pressed a button on her wrist and the sound of gunfire filled the floor below, she watched as the forms quickly moved back down the stairs for cover. She pressed another button and a grenade detonated behind them throwing them back to the landing above them, fortunately for them they lost their balance of they would've been hit by a hail of bullets.
Anya hadn't failed to notice the enemy combatant separate from the enemy team on the first floor, she tracked the target on the camera's which headed into a breakroom and towards the windows, the camera angle wasn't right to see any further but she guessed at what he intended. Anya made sure of the mans approach then headed up to the security floor and started to rig up wires to the metal frames beneath a few of the rooms windows. She grabbed an extension and frayed the end hooking the wires up to the wires connected to the window, she wasn't to concerned the fall wouldn't kill the man, injure, not kill. When she had finished the set up in each of the rooms she plugged in the extension cords and opened the windows just enough so that the man would be forced to touch the metal to open it further.
When the remote guns stopped firing, Ito observed the forms storming the level weapons firing in the direction the bullets had come from, she heard them curse in frustration when they discovered the triggers. The two appeared to stop in the middle of the room, strategizing most likely, it seems they had given up on the stairs and moved towards the elevator, they had intentionally left the lift locked on the security floor so they wouldn't be able to call it. Ito slowly moved down the stairs and peeked into the room switching her helmet to night vision mode, she saw one of the two removing the panel from the elevator and messing with the wires. "Looks like its Anya's turn" she whispered to herself as the doors swung open, Ito knew the elevator was rigged and they'd have to give up so she moved back to her position and prepared for them to try the stairs again.
"Damnit, those stairs are to well trapped" the team leader said, "We could try the elevator" a female voice responded, "Think you can bypass the panel?" he asked, "Easily" she replied. The two of them set about the job, she managed to get the doors open without to much trouble, "Hmmm.. why didn't they cut the power" the team leader considered. "Shall we?" she asked confused by his hesitation, "Lets play this safe" he responded, "You go first, if its safe I'll follow" the girl reached out and grabbed the wire and started her ascent. She made it to the next level with ease but as she was halfway up to the security level Anya's trap activated, the cables lit up with energy burning through the girls gloves and shocking her, she let go out of reflex and began to fall. The team leader grabbed her arm as she fell passed almost falling in himself, "Shluha vokzal'naja" he cursed as he pulled the now unconscious woman to the safety of the floor.
"I am not!" Anya shouted down the elevator shaft hearing the curse, that worked out well she thought, she had been worried that rubber gloves would be safe from the electrocution but the power had been high enough. Satisfied they wouldn't be able to get past the Tesla gate she headed back to the hallway just outside the rooms she had rigged, she saw a glove come over the sill inside one of the rooms. The form of a person came into view as her target continued to climb up the window, he pushed open the window, nothing, damn Anya thought to herself, the charge wasn't high enough here his clothing must be protecting him. As soon as he was halfway into the room Anya blasted him with a full clip from her pistol, "Wasn't very elegant but got the job done" she said as she disabled her trap.
Ito had only a few traps left now, this man was determined to succeed, he had disarmed several and avoided others as he continued up to her location, she finally decided it was time to engage. She pulled the tabs on a couple of smoke grenades she had on her chest and switched her helmet to detect heat signatures as she moved quietly towards him, the man fumbled for another grenade seeing the smoke and that was his mistake. Ito brought one of her combat blades angled toward his neck, seeing the unnatural movement of the smoke the man brought up a hand deflecting the weapon from a metal armband. He spun around angling his elbow towards Ito's mid section but she was gone already, the two spent smoke grenades clanging to the floor, she threw one of her combat knives then moved quickly and as quietly as possible. He deflected the thrown weapon but before he could get to his gun he felt cold steel press up against his throat from behind, he went slack expecting to hear Ito's voice announce his defeat.
