A team had entered the building Darren was ready though, the building was dark, not just your typical dark, it was as dark as a moonless night, as dark as wandering through a dense forest at night. With the dark came an eerie silence, the team that had infiltrated could hear their every footstep, their every breath, every rustle of clothing or movement of their weapon. Eventually they couldn't take it anymore, "It feels heavy in here, the silence is like an overbearing blanket smothering me" said a young woman, "I know what you mean, it's like trying to breath through a heavy smoke, like I have threatening eyes on me from every direction" replied her teammate. "Should we go look for the breaker to get the lights back on?" the first asked, "No lets just get this over with, I saw someone on the sixth floor looking out the window" the second replied. Assuming the stairs were rigged and not knowing who they were dealing with they headed for the elevator shaft, the door was jammed open with some sort of bar, it looked like a long piece of rebar. "This seems ominous, why would they jam open their own door?" she asked, "Another team might already be in here, we need to hurry" he replied, the man rushed over to the shaft and grabbed the cable inside the elevator. There was a flash from up above and his teammate pulled him back just in time as the elevator came crashing down cable and all, "Is this team trying to kill us!" he said in a fit of anger. His teammate shushed him, they could feel eyes on them more intently then before, they turned around slowly to the glowing red eyes of an environmental suit helmet, they screamed just before consciousness was ripped from them.
A single person entered the building, cautiously creeping forward, she felt as if the shadows were going to consume her, "Arie? Paul?" she called in a small voice, the building was making her increasingly nervous, she crept over towards the staircase. She could barely make out the shape of two silhouettes on the floor from the dim light given off by the flashlight she had mounted to her sub machine gun. She quickly flicked off her light and inched very quietly over to the forms, she felt her boots were making an unnatural amount of noise despite being mindful of her every step, every sound made her feel a primal fear rise within her. She could feel eyes on her now, she finally reached the first form and risked a little bit of light, the light shone on Paul's face, she quickly put the back of her hand in front of his mouth, he was still breathing. "I have to complete the mission myself" she thought to herself feeling like she was going to cry, she quietly inched towards the stairs using very little light.
She got to the third floor but she felt like she was being stalked, the feeling of someone watching her had gotten more intense the further she ascended the stairs, "Three more floors to go" she thought to herself trying to calm down. She heard something strike the floor somewhere within the floor and had to stifle a scream, "Just keep going" she thought as she continued to climb the staircase.
The atmosphere seemed to become heavier and more threatening the higher she climbed, she finally reached the sixth floor and across from the stairs she could vaguely see the outline of a person looking out the window with a rifle. She dropped to the floor, drawing out her knife she quietly crawled towards the target, she came up on it silent as a cat and as she was about to strike a tap tapping could be heard behind her. She could see the vague shadow of her head from a red light glowing behind her, she turned her head around very slowly and found herself staring into an intense crimson light. Her blade clattered to the floor, a scream erupted from within her then she knew no more.
Anya and Ito had taken cover from across their building hearing the first two screams, and now a third scream came from the sixth floor, "What's going on in there" Anya whispered, Ito giggled, "Sounds like Darren is having fun, we should leave him be for a while." They heard footsteps rapidly approaching, it was the two they had passed after succeeding at their mission, "Did you hear that?" one of them asked, "This has to be the right place" the other said as they passed Anya and Ito.
"Why is it so dark in here?" the first asked, "Maybe the electricity blew out, I'll go check the generator downstairs, you make for the sixth floor" his teammate responded.
The building was creepy enough on its own but the damp dank basement was on another level, the dim glow of his flashlight lit up little, he could hear a constant dripping sound coming from somewhere. He made it to the generator with no issue and found it had been tampered with, he quickly got to work and after a few moments a dim light began to glow from above, he found the source of the dripping, someone had left a canteen on its side.
The power stuttered to life however as soon as it had several of the lights within the building had burst leaving the surrounding area only dimly lit, "Dim light is better then none" he thought to himself as he reached the fourth story. He turned suddenly, could have sworn a shadow darted passed him, he could hear a whispered conversation taking place somewhere within the first floor, he quietly moved onto the floor hugging the walls. He followed the noise to what seemed to be a staff room, sitting around a table within were three vaguely visible forms, a smile crept across the man's face, he unloaded his gun into the three of them. No noise, usually people at least grunted or cried out when hit by the dummy shells, nothing, he crept over to check and found three unconscious people. A shadow darted towards the door, he fired but nothing, he cautiously crept towards the door but no one was there, he caught the shadow again out of the corner of his eye, turned and shot but again nothing was there. He began to hear whispers that seemed to be coming from all around him while the unknown shadow darted circles around him, he began firing at random shot after shot. "What's going on!" he shouted at the top of his lungs "You've lost" came a voice behind him, he whipped around and fired, click, he pulled the trigger again, click, the last thing he saw was a flash of light and he was out.
He heard his teammate shout from the floor above and rushed up as fast as he could, he found him laying unconscious just outside the stairwell on the fourth floor, his empty shotgun laying near his hand. "What happened" the man whispered to himself, he heard the whispered conversation coming from inside a slightly ajar door and moved towards it, he very slowly opened the door and peeked inside. He could see the dimly lit forms within but noticed they were pushed slightly aside and were sitting unnaturally, "This is a pretty pitiful trap" he said to himself "Your friend fell for it" came a whisper from somewhere near him. He whipped around looking for the source of the voice, he put his back to the door assuming it came from outside the room and began to cautiously peek around the corner. "I wouldn't be in such an obvious spot" the voice came again, the voice was harsh and terrifying like death himself was whispering in his ear, he looked around again, looked under the table and behind the chairs. Not seeing anything a sudden realization dawned on him and slowly began to look up, it was to late though the back of a katana came down as Darren dropped from the very door the man had been using as cover.
The audience in the viewing room hadn't seen much of Darren, he had turned what was meant to be a friendly tournament into a horror movie for two teams, the first team defeated watched glad they weren't forced to endure such a horrifying event. "That Vice President seems to have some pretty sadistic tendencies" The woman Ito had defeated murmured a slight blush coming to her face, "Your sick Inessa" one of her teammates said. The first round of the tournament came to an end, only the student council team had been chosen to advance since the other three were completely wiped out. "Well at least we know their strategy now, just need to look out for that Darren when we attack" someone said, "Wouldn't be so sure if I were you" Inessa responded, that man seems to be a genius when it comes to strategy wouldn't be surprised if next time he was hunting in your buildings."
