Chapter 80 - The confession

They were sitting at the edge of the cliff of a small hill, swinging their legs. From up there, they could literally see the whole of San Diego and truly it was a sight to see.

Rather than the moonlight, there were other lights down there that made the city look colorful and bright.

Sophia reached out, her hand in the air, clutching something. She frowned as she clutched the air again, this time harder.

Jason chuckled. He took a swig of his drink. "What are you doing"

She brought down her hand, sighing. She took her drink beside her which was half full.

"We're so close to the moon....I felt I could grab it in my hand"

Jason laughed out loud. It looked like he was drunk. He wouldn't have laughed as much as he did.

He looked up and truly enough , it felt like he was staring at the moon face to face. It was so big and round and the dark clouds covered it up partially.

He smiled as he drank some more.

"The moon....it looks so big and round ....like boobs" He dropped his drink beside him and used his two hands to measure the moon. "Boobs...this size"

Sophia frowned at him. She looked at the 2 empty bottles of whisky he had consumed and the third one which was half full, beside him.

"Should you be drinking this much alcohol"

He took a big sip and wiped his lips. "Why shouldn't I? I wonder what you see in soda. Alcohol's better. It makes one forget about everything else ...."

"What do you want to forget" She asked softly.

'The fact that you're leaving tomorrow. The fact that I might never see you again. I want to forget the fact that I may have feelings for you'He said in his mind.

He took another sip.

"Everything. I just want to forget everything" He replied simply.

Sophia looked out at the city again, swinging her legs.

"Why did you bring me here"

"Don't you like the view"

"You know that's not what I'm talking about"

He didn't say anything.

"Is it because....I'm leaving tomorrow"

He leaned forward , staring ahead, jiggling his bottle around. "Yes"

Sophia twisted her mouth.

"I'll miss Janvier"

Jason was so drunk now. His mind rolled until he was dizzy. He fell back on the soft grass on the cliff and closed his eyes.

"Won't you miss me too"

Sophia stared at him. But his eyes were closed. His face ...calm.

"You're drunk" She pointed out, avoiding his question.

"What will you do"... He starts asking".....What will you do to me when you go to New York. You still think I killed your father....don't you"

"I 𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘 you killed my father"

Jason smiled.

"So what are you going to do"

She paused. What 𝒘𝒂𝒔 she going to do???

"For the sake of Janvier, I'll spare your life" She kept her bottle aside. "You didn't know what you were doing anyway, your mind was clouded with revenge. So I can't blame you. But I know I can't forgive you for what you did"

She lay back down staring at the stars and Jason turned to look at her.

"But the next time I see you in New York, I'll make sure you go to prison"

Jason smiled.

"Go to prison? But why would someone innocent go to prison"

"Innocent? Jason you're a murderer"

"I didn't kill your father. Someone else did" He sat up.

Sophia sat up too.

"You always say this. Who could have been in that house at that time. Tell me? If you're so sure that you didn't kill him, who did"

"Who could have been in the house at that time Sophia. Come on think. If you're not ready to figure this out, I won't tell you. But know this..." His face was serious. "I didn't kill him"
