From a very young age he observed his surroundings. He would come outside and sit on his balcony where he had a spectacular view of the park that was located just a few blocks away from the apartment in which he and his family of three occupied. His name was Joseph Adoni Charles, his friends along with a few of his family members parents included called him Jac this was because his initials spelt J.A.C. He was very intellectual all his life. At the age of two he was already able to spell and write his full name, then at age 5 he was able to read at a 10th grader level. When jac was 10 years old he was seen by his classmates as intellectually superior because in his exams and in class assignments he would out scored them with an enormous margin. He was this smart because of his keen observations ability which allowed him to pay attention to each and everything thing around him. One of the things he observed the most was the intimacy between two romantic partners. He started his observation with his parents, he would look at there behaviors and try to understand how they feel about each other. He looked and listened to each time they argued and then make up so effortlessly. He look at each time they hold each other so closely there was no space between them. When he was younger he would think that their behavior was wierd but as he grew older he got to understand that, this strange behavior was as a result of a powerful force called LOVE. Unfortunately the most disturbing thing happened when Jac was 17 years old. It was so disturbing that it changed his whole view of love. The day was beautiful well atleast so it started but it definitely was not how it ended. Jac's mother left for work and his father had left the country about three days ago for a very important business trip.
Jac was suppose to be in school but he woke up with an excruciating headache and decided not to leave for school since he was feeling unwell. He pulled the covers over his head to darken his surrounding hoping that it would help ease the pain. After laying there for a number hours he fell asleep. Then he was awaken again by a loud banging which came from the direction of his living room. His heart beated rapidly, his head no longer hurt and he could feel himself trembling under his covers. The place was cool but sweat slowly formed on his forehead then gently flowed onto his pillow. He finally found an ounce of courage in himself which he used to get out of the bed and pull the baseball bat that was behind his door lifting it over his head and slowly walking towards the living room, through all this his body was shaking uncontrollably. When he got there it was empty he thought to himself " was this all in my head, could it have really just been my paranoia" but then there it was again louder than before, this time coming from his parents room. Jac almost fell when he heard the sound but he regain balance and started in the direction of the bedroom. When he got there without hesitation he stomped in the bedroom door and started swinging the bat like a lunatic on a full moon. Then he heard a cry followed by a familiar voice screaming " it's me Jac it's me" it was his mother. She sat there on the bed ashamed because there was someone else beside her and it was not her husband, she was caught naked with another man.
Jac froze their with the bat over his shoulder for about 30 full seconds. His mind was blank and his face painted a picture of surprise and disappointment. He then slowly lowered the bat to his side and opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out, the very disturbing situation has rendered Jac speechless. His mother sat there on bed wrapped in the bedspread with tears flowing down her cheeks. Jac left the room and went back to his where he spent the rest of the day.
The following day he got up to a well prepared breakfast sitting on the corner table in his bedroom. He sat up to eat but was unable to because in his mind the image of the day before rested, he decided to start his preparation for school, by the time he was ready his mother had already left for work. He locked up and left for school with his mind still in shock from the unpleasant situation he witnessed.
"Joseph" shouted Miss Morgan. Miss Morgan was his English literatures teacher and also the school's counselor. On hearing the loud calling of his name Jac shivered " I am sorry miss, what was the question?" He asked when he realized that he had drifted off into a land of his own while his teacher was trying to get his attention. " I asked if you understood the poem" Miss Morgan replied, "ye...yes...yes miss" he stuttered. " Jac meet me in my office in one hour" she instructed then left the class. Jac felt alone, the image of his mother cheating kept popping up in his head over and over again each time more disturbing.
After lunch Jac went to Miss Morgan's office. "Good evening Miss, you asked me here" he reminded her. Miss Morgan had a red medium size Notebook placed directly infront of her on the desk. " In class today you seemed a bit distracted, is everything okay?" she asked. Jac sat there for quite a while with his mouth open expecting words to just come flooding out about why he was so distracted. He was ready to open up about what he saw for the burden of keeping this event to himself was becoming unbearable but he was unable to, all that fumbled from his lips was " yes miss, i am okay". Miss Morgan after a short while asked again and received the same answer as before. "Okay, whenever you feel the need to talk my door is always open" she stated before dismissing him. He slowly left the office and the question that circled round and round in his head was, why? He was puzzled as to why he didn't open up although he was dying inside to do so. The so very intellectual Jac was immensely confused and disturbed.
