"Amara hurry up, we need to get there quickly before people start coming!" Ziana yelled at her best friend that was 10 steps behind her carrying a hiking bag.
"Slow down will you, I ain't built for this!!!" she yelled back. The girls were currently hiking up the mountain towards the famous ruby falls. Ziana wanted to do a photoshoot of her best friend with the new clothes. She had a business but she had no idea it would be this much work.
"I'm exhausted, can we take a break? My feet hurt," Amara whined, dragging her feet on the ground. Ziana turned and looked at her.
"No. There's no time to rest, the quicker we get there the more time we have to settle and probably take a few pictures. Plus who told you to pack for a month's worth of food and clothes were just here for two weeks."
Amara was an overthinker. She always carried extra just in case things happened and she needed certain things, she got this habit from her father.
She sighed and sped up to walk beside her best friend. It took long but they eventually reached the waterfall and it was as beautiful as people described and much more beautiful in person. The girls stood there in awe as they watched and listened to the water as it fell into the river. The air smelt fresh and clean. It was peaceful.
They walked towards the highest cliff that was near the top of the waterfall and it was the perfect place for the photoshoot. Amara stood at the edge, her tor's were peering over the edge it was as if she was ready to jump.
"Hey Ziana, isn't nature beautiful?" She asked, Ziana hummed in response. She looked down and realised how far it was, she turned around and took a few steps back.
"Hey, Amara!"
"Yes?"
"I have a sister!" Amara's head snapped towards her best friend.
"Since when?!"
"My mom and biological dad met 6 years before I was born and got my mom pregnant after being together for 2 years. He was there for a year and he said he fell out of love and disappeared."
"Oh I'm so sorry Ziana!" Amara walked up to her and hugged her.
"He had another family and not only that he's rich. I talked to him and he told me I was a mistake, he only had one daughter and that's the daughter he had with the other woman and as long as she's alive she's his only one," Ziana grabbed Amara's hand and walked with her next to the cliff. "You know, I met his daughter," she turned to Amara.
"What was she like?"
"She's not a typical spoiled girl, she's sweet and kind. She prefers food over jewellery and you can clearly see how much her father loves her as well as her mother. We hand to hang out in secret, I didn't want him to know I was with her." Amara's eyebrows furrowed, it sounded like her but it couldn't be. Can it?
Ziana's griped Amara's hand tighter
"I see her smile, laugh, go shopping and I want to take that all away from her. I want her life, I want to be her. Why can't I be here," as she speaks her grip tightens every time. Amara winced in pain, she tried to get out of her grip but she wasn't strong enough. "I just want to rip her face off, seeing her. She has the audacity to act like there is nothing wrong with this world. I hate her. I hate her."
She lets go of her best friend's hand, Amara holds her wrist as she looks at the hand Ziana had a grip on and it was bruised. Ziana stood behind her and made her look at the waterfall.
"Do you see how beautiful it is, isn't it tremendous? Look at the way it glistened in the sunlight. The air is so fresh and clean. Even though we're far in the future they still preserved nature."
Amara felt a pinch on her neck, her heart rate increased, her muscles felt tingly. She couldn't move, Ziana giggles "Once you're gone, everything you have will be mine. Don't worry, I'll take great care of your family. Oh wait, I mean my family. I have an amazing plan, wanna hear it," she said enthusiastically, wrapping her arms around Amara.
'She's my sister!? She had such a rough childhood but why would my dad do that?' Amara thought. Ziana's arms were tight around her, she struggled to breathe.
"Of course you do, why wouldn't you? Well...once you're dead I'll show up at your house and look for you, 'to have a relationship' then surprise surprise your dead. Then we'll mourn together with your f-, I mean my family, they'll love me and see me as their daughter. Don't worry about him finding out I did it because I hired people to hide our tracks. I used everything I had to pay them and I mean everything. I can't let it go to waste, can I?"
'I have to do something but I can't, I feel so useless. Why didn't I see it before' Amara thought about the times she and Ziana sneaked around or the times she paid for everything. She'd never go out unless she scheduled it.
"Well, I hope this waterfall will make your death peaceful!" Ziana pushed her off the cliff and stood there watching. Amara watched as Ziana smiled and waved, Amara didn't feel it but she fell into the river. As she sank, she held her breath. Her lungs burnt, her heartbeats were louder and louder. She thought of the times she'd had with her family, friends and even Ziana. She didn't want to die yet but what could she do?
She could no longer take it, she gave up and let herself go. She was drowning in water, drowning in life and drowning in an incomplete life. She drifted away to a faraway. Blackness surrounded her.
Everything was quiet.
