*** Melanie Mercer POV ***
"Leave no evidence or clue that can track back to us. Is that understood?"
"Yes, my Lady, but if Lord Thomas gets wind of th-"
"Don't worry. Just do as I planned. If everything goes well it'll be like they never existed in the first place. Thomas will forget about those worthless commoners in no time."
"But-"
"Didn't I tell you not to worry? Just believe in me Hubert, or could it be that you don't trust me?" I said as I pouted while crossing my arms underneath my bosom slightly pushing them up.
"No, Melanie I-"
Before he could finish his sentence I closed the distance between us as I lightly leaned against his chest while whispering in his ear with a seductive tone.
"If you do well, I'll rewards you handsomely..."
"Whatever you want, you can have it." I said as I ran my fingers from his chest and up to his slightly flushed face.
I lightly stroke him underneath his chin as his ear grew redder.
"Alright, you can count on me!" He said as he tried to put up a tough and proud demeanor.
"I knew I could rely on you Hubert!"
I jumped as I gave him a 'friendly' hug while giving him a peck on the cheek.
Without saying anything more I turned around and left, leaving him in his daze, however I immediately wiped my mouth as my back turned against him.
Feeling slightly disgusted I couldn't help but frown a little, but as I thought about the pawn which I had gained a sinister smile grew on my face.
With this, everything is sealed in stone.
With an early master mage under my control they won't be able to escape their pitiful fates. Finally after all those years I can live my life in peace.
This is what happens when you act out of place.
I gave you filth a chance to live in this palace as dogs, but you decided to misbehave. I truly should have killed that kid 4 years ago...
If only I could see their faces in agony as their life was snuffed out of them...
*** Kayn Gaillon POV ***
"Aren't you excited mother?"
"Yes dear, it's not often we get to go on a trip." She said as she flashed me a delighted smile which truly warmed my heart.
No matter how many times I saw it, just knowing that she is happy warms my heart and throughout my years on this world I realized that just having someone to share my happy moments, someone to live for, is what makes life worth living.
"Hehe, don't worry mother! From now on you don't have to worry about him anymore. Things will soon turn a little rowdy... But don't worry, we will soon be free!"
"Huh? Kayn, what are you talking ab-"
"Lady Catherine, young master Kayn. It's soon time for us to move."
Before my mother could questions my comment a somewhat gruff and mature voice interrupted her.
"Oh, good morning Hubert, thank you for escorting us on this journey. Having a master mage besides us is truly reassuring." She said as she showed him a polite smile.
"It is my pleasure Lady Catherine. I only hope for you to have comfortable journey."
"Yes, thank you, we'll be in your care then, isn't that right Kayn?"
"Yes, please take good care of us Sir Reed." I said as I looked him in the eye while nodding my head in a polite bow.
"No need for the formalities, young master Kayn."
"Very well, shall we get going then?"
"Of course, after you guys." He said as he stretched his arms out as if encouraging us to go first.
Nodding at him my mother went ahead towards the caravan with me in tow.
However, as I passed him by a few steps I shifted my head slightly to the side as I gazed behind me in a natural manner.
Tch, are all men in this house animals?
Seeing him looking at my mother so intently, especially with that perverted expressions hidden beneath his polite smile made me want to rip his eyeballs out.
However, before he took notice I quickly directed my gaze in front of me as I moved.
I inwardly sighed as I calmed my self.
Master Mage Hubert Reed...
Even thought he's just at the early master stage he's out of my league, at least while I'm just a novice mage, however that won't be the case for long...
I clenched my fist as I thought about smashing his face, but noticing my body tensing up I inwardly shook my head as I composed myself.
If things go well, he'll learn his place. No need to get upset about a dead man...
As my mother politely greeted and chatted with the guards and servants which would accompany us on the journey, I put my body on autopilot as I inspected my core which now had a bright orange color.
Advancing to a novice mage was an otherworldly experience, a feeling that I could accept being addicted to and I couldn't help but be excited to advance to the next stage.
Even in my past life, as I grew in strength I never had this same delighted and thrilled feeling, but after all, my circumstances was quite different so I never had the luxury to enjoy my growth. But even so, I have to admit that the mana core is a heavenly gift and I look forward to unravel all the mysteries surrounding it.
However, without getting to carried away in my thoughts, I decided to concentrate on the task at hand.
"Please don't worry Lady Catherine. Just enjoy the trip, we will take good care of you and your son."
As I came back to my senses I heard Hubert, and some guards talk with my mother, but I couldn't help but frown seeing his obvious lies. Humans are truly vile and greedy, but that why they're easy to manipulate. Melanie may have secured a powerful pawn, but ultimately she's still dancing at the palm of my hands.
"Hey, Kayn..."
As I heard a weak and somewhat anxious voice calling out to me I turned my direction only to be met with a slowly approaching caramel blonde haired boy.
I had the usual aloof and stoic expression on my face, and carried myself in a confident manner, but seeing the restlessness and uneasiness in his coal black eyes I couldn't help, but smile a little.
Aside from Thomas and mother, Alan has been the one I've been spending the most time with. We started off as just sparring partners, and even though I expected for his ego to be hurt as I beat him time and time again, he seemed to accept and acknowledge my strength instead. And even though he doesn't show it, I knew that he somewhat cherished this newfound bond we we had built during the two years. However, whether it was brotherly love, or admiration and respect I didn't know.
"Good morning. Have you come to see me off?"
I said as I shot him a cocksure smirk trying to tease him a little.
"N-No! Who would take their time to see y-you off?!" He anxiously refuted.
Seeing him stammer I couldn't help, but find it a little cute.
"No worries, I'll miss you to brother."
I said as I flashed him a toothy smile, somewhat excited to see his reaction.
However, he didn't even react, almost as if he was lost in thought, and as I noticed his mouth somewhat quivering it was as if he wanted to tell me something
Could it be? He really gonna miss me?
"Come on, don't look at me like that. It's not like I'll be gone for long. Right?"
As I said that he seemed to snap out of his thoughts, but he still looked at me with a bitter eyes and almost a somewhat liable and guilty expression.
Does he know? If he knew I felt somewhat bad leaving him here, even more so if he felt guilty, but this was something I had to do.
Almost as if to confirm my thoughts he seemed so regain his composure as he looked med dead in the eye.
"Brother..."
!!!
Hearing him call me brother for the first time stunned me, and I could feel a slight warmth in my heart.
"Please be careful on your journey, and be safe. Things isn't like they seem to be and even though I know that you are ahead of my league and even your peers in terms of both strength and mind there are still gaps that can't be closed."
"Thank you for your warning brother, I will take it to heart, but don't you worry. We have all these guards and even Sir. Reed will accompany us, moreover it's only a two day trip to pay Earl August Pennington a vis-"
"No you don't understand brother, it's still not safe! Sir. Reed and even the gua-"
"Good evening, young master Alan. Are you here to see your brother off?"
Without letting Alan finish, almost as if he was on cue came Hubert Reed. As he placed a hand on Alans shoulder his question sounded more like a threat as I saw the amount of force he applied as his finger somewhat clenched his shoulder.
"O-Oh, S-Sir. Reed. Yes I'm here to see my brother off. Thank you for watching over him on this journey". He said as he turned to face the man and bowed slightly.
However, his fearful and and somewhat anxious expressions didn't go unnoticed, and seeing the somewhat infuriated look on Hubert face I frowned.
"Isn't that nice of you? I know you two have gotten close lately, but seeing this brotherly love I can't help but be a little surprised. However, I hope you can cut your farewell short, it's time for young master Kayn to leave soon." He said that as he bore his gaze into Alans eyes while tightening his grip on Alans shoulder causing him to flinch.
Noticing the obvious threat, I swept between them and brushed his hand of Alans shoulder, and although this action may have seemed casual I did have to imbue some mana in my hand to brush of his unnecessarily strong grip on Alans shoulder which caused him to widen his eyes in slight surprise.
"Yes, you're indeed right Sir. Reed. I'll join you in a few seconds, so would you please give me some space to talk some things out with my brother?"
"Very well, but please make it quick. It wouldn't be nice of us to make the others wait too long." He said, obviously annoyed, but still turned his back and walked, however not without giving Alan one last look which caused him to look down.
"Kayn, I-"
"Alan." I said, taking a serious note, while giving him a sincere look in the eye, a tone and expression I've never showed him before which caused him to flinch seeing my unusual change in attitude.
"Don't worry. I'll be fine, and I'll always be, and although we started off on the wrong foot, I believe in you. You're different from the rest of this family and I hope you to bring the Gaillon name to new heights. I've seen you change and mature and I'm proud to call you my brother even if the feeling isn't mutual."
"But-"
*pat*
I put my hand on his shoulder as I gave him one last look in the eye. This time changing back to my playful attitude.
"If fate allows, we'll cross paths."
I shot him a smile and was about to turn around, but then I remembered.
"Oh, yeah, if I remember correctly, your aiming for Brightwing Academy in 2 years right? Just keep up your training. With your current growth I'm confident you'll qualify, even for a legendary institute such as Brightwing, with your progress it will only be a matter of time before you sit in the same class as those snobby royals."
Without even saying goodbye, I turned around and went my way towards the caravan.
However, as I slightly turned my heads to the side and inconspicuously peered behind me with the corner of my eye I couldn't help but smirk.
Seeing a teary eyed Alan clenching his fists as he tried stifle his tears and snot from running down his rosy cheeks made me chuckle.
Well, my getaway from the Gaillon family got more sentimental than expected.
But I guess he's a good kid after all. Hopefully he'll change this family one day.
And if not, I'll pay them a visit.
I'm the type to hold grudges after all.
