Chapter 5 - Family reunion

*** Kayn Gaillon POV ***

As I slowly descended to the ground I could feel the mana surrounding me dispersing signalizing the end of my awakening.

Everything around me had been obliterated leaving the grandiose and lofty guest manor half of what it once was.

*sigh*

"This... How am I gonna explain this..."?

Before I could even settle to the ground my mother barraged me with an endless amount of questions, but I was just happy she was fine.

"Now, now, lets calm down mother. I'm just happy you're fine. I'm sorry for hurting you... But yes, I do think I had my awakening, but this isn't the place and time to talk about such matters.

As my mother started refuting my words a powerful and deafening voice echoed from above followed by an immensely oppressive pressure. It was as if a mountain was dropped on my back.

"WHO THE H*LL DARES TO ATTACK THE GAILLON ESTATE!? SHOW YOURSELF IMMEDIATELY OR I'LL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN!?"

I was immediately smashed to the ground and could only watch in horror as a figure from above descended towards my mother.

My vision blurred and I could feel my consciousness fading, but I forced myself to stay awake. I promised to protect her, and I would, but no matter what my body wouldn't listen.

My muscles wouldn't move and I could only endure as my bones gave in to the pressure. Cracking sounds could be heard all over as my body sank further in to the ground.

"D*amn this pathetic body..."

I cursed as my body was about to surrender. Blood oozed out from my mouth and nose as a pair of bloodshot eyes were forced awake in order to not lose consciousness.

Nonetheless my vision was too blurry. I could only see glimpses of my mother being lifted up by the hair.

However, by this point my body was boiling and I completely forgot about the pain. The pressure seemed to lessen as I entered a frenzied state of mind. I felt hot and frantic, as if a storm was quickly brewing in my mind and body.

"How dare he..."

Images of the past once again rose from the deepest of my mind, further fueling my anger like oil to the fire.

Mana was unconsciously absorbed and channeled throughout my body empowering it significantly.

I slowly emerged from the ground as the power kept surging completely negating the pressure.

"That b*stard..."

Unknowingly a high concentration of mana had been directed towards my right hand as I held it in a straight manner. A blood red hue surrounded it in the form of a blade.

"Don't touch her..."

Mana concurrently flowed towards my legs and feet as my muscles bulged. Bood veins swelled as if they were gonna explode at any moment.

*smack*

As the figure slapped my mother and the sound echoed, all the mana loaded in my legs immediately exploded.

In the the blink of an eye I appeared behind him as I thrust my right hand forward. It pierced right through as blood coated my hand.

"Don't touch my mother you old b*stard".

*** Thomas Gaillon POV ***

"W-Who...?"

I stared with eyes wide as a small hand protruded from my abdomen. It was covered in blood and hard to discern, but I could only concluded that it was the hand of a child.

It was then that a cold and callous voice spoke from my back. It sent chills down my spine and the killing intent released was so thick and cold that my legs started shivering.

I was horrified and anxiously contemplating if I've ever offended a powerhouse of this caliber, but the words uttered by the man behind me stunned me.

"Don't touch my mother you old b*stard"

Mother? W-Wait, if Catherine is his mother doesn't that mean-

I nervously turned my head around and what met my eyes was the unbelievable.

A small boy no older than five was covered in a thick and ominous mist of mana. It was seeping from his every pore and the aura surrounding him was so cold that even veteran mages might buckle to their knees. However, the most terrifying of it wall was his eyes. They carried a dim hue, and even in the face of a mage at the master rank they didn't display the smallest amount of fear. Rather, the look given by them was as if they were looking at someone inferior...

"K-Kayn is that you?"

I asked, still somewhat wary. Knowing that it was just a boy put me at ease, and the injury wasn't even something to worry about. As an enhancer my body is remarkably stronger than the normal human body. In fact this will heal in an hour or two, after all the wound is as small as a child fist. What put me at alert was that he could bear with my mana presssure. As far as I know no mage in this house aside from my wife should be able to do that- wait, but doesn't that imply that this small child is a mage...

"Tch, I guess I can't kill you with this."

As the boy said that he yanked his hand out of my abdomen not the least alarmed of the blood and gore.

I finally got a good look at him and it confirmed my suspicions. With coal black eyes, brown hair and white pale skin, he looked quite alike my younger self. However, I was still at doubt, because I could feel it in him. A mana core...

"Yes, have you gotten a good look? I guess it's hard to remember your own son after all this years? Father."

As he looked me dead in the eye with still an indifferent look, he asked with a taunting manner. Additionally he made sure to exaggerate the syllables of the last word.

I could feel my blood boiling and that's when reality hit me. A worm just f*cking injured me. And how dare he talk to me like that. He shouldn't even look me in the eyes. Insects like him should kneel on the ground.

"Watch your language brat!"

I threw my fist in a backhanded motion. I didn't put any effort to it, in fact I lowered the strength as to not kill him. However, at the master rank he shouldn't be able to dodge it, but to my surprise he effortlessly stepped back and dodge my hand by a hairs length.

"Now, now let's calm down. Why would you ruin this fine family reunion? You should learn to enjoy the moment." He said with a cheeky smile.

"See how I'll enjoy torturing you and your mother!"

I covered my hands in flames as I swung it towards his head in a grabbing motion.

"Try to talk like that again after I burn your throat from the inside out!"

His smile immediately disappeared, and instead a frown appeared. However his eyes still carried the indifferent look.

"Let's make a deal." He spoke just as my fiery flaming hand was inches away from his throat. I could already see his skin slightly burning from the heat. Nonetheless, he didn't even flinch.

"A deal you say? Who the h*ll do you think you are brat!"

"You better move that hand soon father, after all I'm the youngest mage in history. Would you kill such a prominent talent for the sake of your own pride?"

It was then that it hit me.

"Y-you really are a mage?"

"Yes, and I'm sure you can feel my mana core so I'll cut to the chase. You will need me as much as I need you. I can practically smell your nasty greed from here. If you want more status, more fame, more wealth won't it help you having the most talented mage as your son? In fact if I'm not wrong you would be able to get the rank of Earl you so dearly wished for, making you the peak of lower nobles. And who knows? Maybe one day you could even become a Marquess making you part of the higher nobles."

What he said caught my interest, and may very well be true. There would be many benefits of having a talented heir. Just by making his talent public an endless amount of nobles would try to earn our favor. Even people of higher rank wouldn't bat an eye to make connections, but this talent is too alarming. If the royals get to know about this they would take him immediately. It would be better to wait and officially deem him a mage at a later age. The best of both worlds is to make him seem talented, but not too talented. However...

"What exactly stops me from using you by force?"

"Oh, you're thinking about making me a slave or something? Perhaps torturing me? Pff how cruel, but the answer is quite simple. It won't work. I'll simply kill myself. So the question is. Do you want a talented son or a dead son?"
