Briar Nightingale just wanted to knit.
Knit away her sorrows.
Knit and see what could be an outcome of the colour yellow and blue.
Knit and imagine her little pup wearing her cloths and not normal ones because she couldn't go down to that little village and ask for baby clothes.
Knit and ignore Jordan Nightingale.
But there was just so much you could ask for wasn't there?
She was very much aware of the challenge and many a time, she wished deep down that during the fight, Raven would ignore how Briar would feel and rip out her husband's heart, if he had one, and eat it.
Okay so it was a gory image but it didn't stop her from wanting him dead.
He didn't deserve her.
.....
But she loved him.
He was not such a bad person when he wasn't thinking of being an Alpha or making sure Raven was twelve feet under.
Like when they went on their date together and though he had not been comfortable with not training for a day, (obsessed with death much), he had complied.
It had just been a simple picnic, them sitting under the sun, and her asking him about what he thought of a new pup.
As much as he had said children were okay, he also said there was no need to have a child when he wasn't Alpha yet and hadn't given Briar everything she wanted.
The talk had ended there immediately.
But it didn't matter did it?
Every night he crawled into the bed, after showering and held unto hher body, his arms dangerously wrapped around hers, she could not help but wonder what he would do to her child if he found out.
Would he be happy?
Would he start the raging madness of 'Alpha syndrome' again?
There was always so much to think about.
So Briar just knitted.
Still....
She heard the room of the door open and shockingly, he didn't slam it, as he usually did.
Which meant two things.
He was in a good mood, and Briar doubted that because Raven was still alive and well and walking around on two feet.
Or he was probably so mad at her that he did not want to scare her.
For best reasons known to Briar's brain.
She entered panic mode.
But outwardly, she was still knitting.
"Nice to fine my dear wife in her room, like she's supposed to be"
Like I have been, for the past two days that you've been obsessively muttering Raven's name in your dreams and how pretty she would look dead.
She did not answer anyway.
She had learnt replying was not the best if you did not want to get five slaps too early before the original beatings.
She saw his form move towards her as he removed his shirt, his sweaty body glistening under the moon light that shown in their room.
Yet, even through the small light and extremely dim lamp....
Briar could tell he was angry.
His brown eyes rummaged around her as he said "A little birdie told me two days ago, you were talking to Raven's mate, someone who had supposedly embarrassed your husband in public, and you both were SMILING, or did he use his powers on you to make you comfortable?"
The reply was not what she had originally planned.
"Saddens you someone else might take interest in me?"
"You sad little thing"
He did not hit her, as much as she had braced herself for it.
Instead, Jordan crouched down to her level, gently taking the thing she was knitting and settling it somewhere as he made her look into his eyes "For you to think he would even want you, shows how sad you really are"
She stared back at him, defiant.
She knew how it was going to go.
The insults....
The downgrading....
She knew it by heart.
"Briar, darling, do you remember what I have done for you?"
His hands moved around her face, his thumb trailing her gently, and it was only the goddess that knew why her body was reacting to the gesture, ignoring all the warning signs her brain was giving.
She heard him chuckle "Your body likes me too you know? It WANTS me, not that bastard, ME"
His hands began to go down and when he reached her left breast, he squeezed.
Briar gasped.
"It's been so long we had sex though" He whispered "I think we should....."
"No" She cut in.
The baby, oh God, he'd hurt her in the name of sex and oh the baby.....
He raised an eyebrow, clearly trying to hold back his temper as he said "No? Why not? Don't you miss me filling you and...."
"Jordan, stop...."
"Hey! You listen you whore!"
His hand grabbed her face as he pulled it close to his "I own you! Who picked you from that stupid Pack even though I knew you weren't one of them? That you were alone? That even them found it hard to make you fit in? Who wanted you when everyone you had left you?"
"They didn't have a choice!"
"You think?" He snarled "Baby girl, everyone always has a choice Briar, and you chose me, so put your shit together and want me"
"My name is Belle!"
The slap came this time and she blinked as her vision blurred for a second as he stood up and let out a curse, and other strings of it.
Briar had a hand over her mouth so she wouldn't scream, as more tears flowed from her eyes.
I should run, I should leave, he would kill me, I swear one day he'd....
"Baby...."
He was on his knees now, the rage from his eyes gone as he said softly "You gotta understand. I just get so.... Pissed you know? I mean, hell, baby, you never support me, and you support my cousin even though she's shitty as hell and then I hear you're talking to her boyfriend and being all chummy when he embarrassed me like that"
"Did you expect me to beat him up?"
"Oh hell no Princess, he'd hit you" He replied with a laugh that irritated her "I'm just saying you could be a little more supportive, you know, I mean, there are people that support me...."
"Then eat theirs"
"They are not my wife Briar!" He snapped "For the goddess sake, you don't even treat me like you used to anymore. Do you not feel an iota of live for me anymore? Even a little?"
Briar panted, counting her words as she said "You can reject me Jordan, I would save you the shame of me rejecting you and...."
"No" He simply replied "I'm not letting you go, and you're too nice to reject me"
Briar was on the verge of breaking "Jordan...."
"You'd get used to me, to this, as I have gotten used to your good attitude towards me, you know why? Because I love you, because I can't leave without you, and everytime I see someone around you,I want them dead, because you keep me sane, without you, I'd...."
"You're already insane!"
"Briar" He said this with a small chuckle "I am still very much sane. Insane would be without you, and I know you want me sane, don't you my love?"
She did not answer.
Jordan smiled and patted her head "Good girl"
