Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: At the Back Garden

The birthday party was already over. The respectable guests are on their way home. Princess Wara's mind was still at the balcony even after they were seperated at the moment when she needed to go back to the party. The smile that Selene gave makes Princess Wara smile until she goes to her bed. She keeps thinking of Selene. The other day she asked the King if she knew who Selene was.

"Dad, did you know Selene?"

"Hmm let me think for a while, my Princess" the King answered and thought for a few minutes.

"Have you remembered her already, Dad?"

"She's the girl who came by a carriage yesterday," she added.

"Ohh I remembered, my Princess. She's the daughter of the best general in our kingdom. They will stay here at the palace starting today." The King replied.

"Really Dad?? But why?"

"He was my most trusted general, my Princess. General Sram will follow my orders and special missions that I will be appointed to. They need to move here both at the palace with her daughter because if general Sram will be on mission, her daughter won't be alone at home. Will you be okay with that, my Princess?" the king explained. She smiled and answered "Of course, Dad."

The Princess wanders around the palace hoping that she'll see Selene again. After she goes around inside the palace she doesn't see Selene. Then when she was returning to her room, she decided to visit the back garden to see the flowers that were blooming. As she entered the garden the wind blew and made her hair messy. When she was slowly fixing her hair, she saw someone sitting at the bench looking upwards and her eyes were closed. After the Princess fixed her hair, she went closer to the bench. She was shocked and at the same time she was happy. It was Selene who was sitting. Before the Princess talks and greets Selene, she stares at her for a moment. She cleared her throat to emphasize that she's in front of her. Selene's eyes slowly opened her eyes.

"Hi.."

"Oh, Hi, your highness. What are you doing here?" Selene said and stood right away.

"I just wanted to look at the flowers here. And suddenly I saw you so I came here."

"Is that so, your highness? I guess you came at the right time. The flowers are in great bloom today, your highness."

"Yeah I thought so.."

"Have a seat, your highness." Selene replied in order to start a proper conversation with Princess Wara.

"Thank you, Selene..right?" She said while acting like she didn't remember what happened at the balcony.

"Yes, your highness. My name was Selene. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Selene. I guess you already know who I am. But I want to introduce myself. I'm Princess Wara." She replied while smiling and looking directly to Selene's eyes like she was speaking through her eyes from her heart.

The two continue to talk about many things and they even forget the time. Nanny Sena asked the servants if they saw Princess Wara. And the servants tell Nanny Sena that the Princess was in the back garden talking to Selene. The Nanny Sena goes to the back garden and sees Princess Wara laughing while talking to Selene. At that moment, Nanny Sena smiled happily from a distance and not yet called Princess Wara to eat dinner. She even teared up while just looking at Princess Wara smiling and laughing happily again since Queen Mara died. Then finally she called Princess Wara.

"Princess, let's go inside, it's already late. Your father was looking for you. It's already dinner." Nanny Sena said while still removing her tears.

"Oh is it really that late, Nanny Sena? I'm sorry I forgot to bring my watch."

"That's fine, Princess. Let's go inside before your father looks for you again."

"Okay..Nanny Sena. I'm coming. Give me a second." She replied and asked Selene.

"I need to go back inside now, Selene. Can we talk again tomorrow?

"Of course, my Princess."

"Okay, I'll see you again tomorrow." Princess Wara said and left.

After Princess Wara leaves, Selene goes to their house. She ate alone since her father was on his mission. The other day as they said yesterday, Princess Wara and Selene will meet again. Selene waits at the same time at the same place. Then a few minutes past, Princess Wara arrives with a basket in her right hand.

"Hello, your highness." Selene greeted.

"Hi, Selene. Am I late?" She asked.

"No, your highness. I only arrived here in a few minutes."

"Really? Thank goodness." She said with relief.

"Yes, your highness. By the way, why are you carrying a basket, your highness?"

"Ohh, I nearly forgot. I've bought biscuits and juice. I forgot to tell you yesterday because my Nanny Sena called me. We're going to have a picnic today." She said with excitement in her voice. Then Selene smiled at her and said, "Okay, your highness. But, where are we going to have a picnic?"

"The weather is good today so we're going to have a picnic at the cliff."

"That sounds great, your highness. Let's go.." Selene replied.

"Yeah, let's go."

Before they started to walk, Selene helped Princess Wara to carry the basket first. While walking, Princess Wara talked about the legend of the cliff. She said that a long time ago there was a house at the cliff. The house is owned by a poor maiden. Then every night a young man visited her. A lot of maidens at the town were jealous of that poor maiden. Because of the jealousy of the other maidens, they destroyed the house of the poor maiden and they even hurt her. When the young man came and visited the poor maiden, he became so angry at what he saw. The sky became black, and the ocean waves were like mountains approaching the town. Even at that moment, the poor maiden stopped the young man on what he's planning to do. She said that he must forgive them because they were just jealous of her. Then the young man became calm and hugged the poor maiden. Since then, they never see the poor maiden again with her house. The elders believed that the young man was the Guardian of the ocean and he fell in love with the poor maiden living alone at the cliff. After the incident, the town created a festival in which they throw flowers at the ocean to seek forgiveness for what the jealous maiden has done and to thank the poor maiden for her kindness despite what they did to her.

Less than an hour, they arrived at the cliff. The ocean was calm and the air was smells like salt.
