It has been 3 months since the oath between us has been established, and I got to learn about Chanhee through our casual talks while we went to the library together to do our revision. We became close and trustable friends since we only had each other's backs.
Through these 3 months, Chanhee and I would go to school together as well since he wanted to make sure that no one in campus said anything bad to me. Occasionally, some of my classmates would pick on me, but he was always there to stop them before they could hurt me any further with their words. It was as though he was a bulletproof vest that blocked out any harmful comments that are made towards me.
In return, as promised, I would help him with his studies. He was weak in every subject, according to what he had told me. It required a lot of patience for me to teach him because he has quite a low attention span. However, it made me happy when he tried to put in a lot of effort into understanding the concepts that I was teaching him. Sometimes, I had to use layman's term to explain certain topics so that he could understand it.
Practice makes perfect, as what people would say.
"Alright, when I call your name, please step forward to collect your pop quiz test paper."
It was another day of math class, and Mr. Kim would be returning our pop quiz. Each time he called out someone's name, Chanhee would feel even more tensed. I guess he was worried that he would not do well for his quiz. He was even praying that he could do well.
"Kang Chanhee," Mr. Kim called out. Chanhee walked forward to collect his paper, but he folded it so that he himself could not see the score. Once he sat down, he took a few deep breaths before he slowly revealed the score to himself. He was stoned, and I whispered, "How is it? Did you pass?"
He folded the paper again and passed it to me, covering his face as he tried to act normal.
My eyes widened as I looked at his score. It was a 59 out of 100, he barely passed. Although it was close to the borderline pass, I was actually proud of him. He improved a lot in his math, and I was so happy for him. I passed the paper back to him with a smile plastered on my face, mouthing the word 'Good Job'.
After school, he came to me and heaved a sigh of relief, "Oh my god... I finally pass my math pop quiz..." I smiled, "Good job! Ah, I'm so proud of you, Chanhee! I knew you can do it."
He smiled back, "Thanks. It's all thanks to you too. Thank you for revising with me, Shion. Come on, let's go and celebrate."
I looked at him in confusion, "Go where?"
"We can go and have fun for the day," he chuckled. I looked down, "I don't know though... my parents want me to go back home once school is over..."
He pouted, "Your parents can't keep controlling your freedom like this. You are already old enough to be independent." I sighed, "I know... but... my parents are just so... controlling about my life."
He said, "Ignore your parents. Let's go and have fun together. Just for today, at least. You got to loosen up too, you know." I sighed in defeat and smiled, "I guess you can plan the itinerary for today."
He smiled, "Alright. Maybe you can change into your PE attire. The uniform is really stuffy after all." I nodded, "I will meet you at the school gate then!"
Spending half of the day with Chanhee after school? I wonder what we were going to do once we meet up...
Whatever it was, I'm looking forward to it. Maybe I need to learn to have some fun too. What could go wrong, right?
