Up until a few months ago, Navaya had clung onto the notion that forgiving Johnny would cause an upheaval in her very soul. Letting him into her home, letting him touch her would hurt as much as it did when he left her. She held on to that belief for so long because without it, she would have to admit that she never stopped caring about him, not even at the peak of heartbreak while she watched him exchange vows with another woman. She would have to admit that after six years apart, his presence still brought her a sense of ease and comfort in the chaos of her life.
It was as though nothing had really changed, his voice was still the soothing rasp she remembered and his touches were gentle. Letting him back in had been as easy as breathing.
