Becca was already inside their bedroom by the time Leo returned. She had already changed out of the dress she wore to the party.
Taking a deep breath, he gently shut the door behind him before stepping away from it and moving towards the closet. Becca watched him shrug off his coat, his fingers working the buttons on his shirt.
He didn't speak. He didn't have to, the way his shoulders slumped and the forlorn expression on his face told her everything she needed to know.
She stood up from where she sat at the edge of the bed and covered the distance that separated them. Becca wrapped her arms around his waist and embraced him from behind. It must have been devastating for Leo to witness his grandparents in such conditions. But he didn't have to go through it alone. He didn't always have to suffer.
